The Legends at Orange Lake Resort
About
Orange Lake Resort & Country Club in Kissimmee boasts four different golf courses, two championship courses and two nine-hole layouts. Undoubtedly, the most popular course is the Legends. This Arnold Palmer-designed layout is like getting two courses in one. The front nine is a traditional links that is wide-open and windy, which makes club selection particularly challenging. It is a good warm-up for the even more demanding back nine. On the backside, you will be playing through mature oaks and towering pine trees that border the lush, winding fairways. It is quite a feat to successfully maneuver your tee shots through the narrow openings of the trees, which gives it the feel of a course in North Carolina. The signature hole is the 13th. This daunting hole features a large green that is shielded by a rock wall, surrounded by tall grass, and protected in back by a sand trap.

Arnie passed away and his course at Orange Lake is next
Well, what to say. Played this course many times in the last 10 years. Used to be one of my favorites, anywhere. Probably played it for the last time today. It's on a steady decline, and has hit bottom. Course condition was wretched. We got an excuse about the bad timing of an overseeding project. Not buying it. That can't explain the weeds and numerous dead spots in the greens. Huge bare spots on tee boxes which are now uneven and lumpy. Bunkers with too much sand some with barely any. At two points carts were being directed to drive over the red tee boxes which looked like cart path anyway. No one to greet you. No one at the finish. Half stocked pro shop. Nearly Out of range balls and out of one bucket we did get we pulled out 10 that had covers coming off them. Found 2 ballwashers on the course and no beverage cart. Top that off with scorecards printed on site on cheap paper with an ink jet printer and you've got nothing more than low level muni. Bottom line don't play it at any rate. Too many good options out there.
Over priced for what you get.
I can not believe the condition of the fairways and greens, poor for both. I have played $40 courses near here that are better condition.
Shame to see as I always found this track a step above but no longer.
Good course for the money
I've played this course before and the pace of play was better in November it was slower this time. Always enjoy it though. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Needs water
The fairways are brown and cut o the dirt. It would be nice to have some grass under your ball.
Great layout. Some pretty and challenging holes.
Greens in good condition.
Great fun.
Total lack of course maintenance of a great Arnold Palmer design!
Have played the Legend frequently for the last 20 years. It was always in pristine shape with visiting pga players in orlando frequenting it. For the last 5 years it has gone down continually with very poor management of greens , fairways and bunkers. Turf in the fairways is matted brown grass that does not appear to be growing. Bare spots are numerous .In some fairways you cant even move the ball around to find a descent lie. Greens are very bumpy with so many weeds growing on them , you have to move your ball to get a clear putt to the hole. The greens desperately need a total makeover which is obviously long over due. Bunkers have deep loose sand which makes a skillful shot almost impossible. The worst thing I see is no one working to improve the conditions! Even the driving range is not being maintained and yet they are charging exorbitant prices for a bucket of balls!
Orange lake is a quality gold crown resort which has allowed a company with either no financial ability or knowledge to manage the 3 courses on site. Shame on who ever has allowed this wonderful layout to be destroyed! There are many resort owners including myself who are very upset and are leaving the resort to play elsewhere because of the terrible conditions of their courses! Please be warned!
Legends is in poor shape needs alot of TLC. I don't think that Arnie would appreciate the shape its in.
There are alot better coures out there for the same money.
Great deal
Best deal I have seen at this course. Slow play but average for Florida (5 hours). 4 alligators none in the fairways. Challenging but rewarding with good fairways.
Nice layout
The course has wide open fairways which was nice, the condition of the fairways could be kept up better. My biggest problem was the scorecard did not have a picture of each hole and their was no picture of the hole at the hole and a couple of times I got in trouble hitting driver off the tee box if I would of known their was hazards I would of play differently .
Needs work
Played course several times over the past 10 years, and second time this year.
In our opinion:
the conditions were the worst of all the times we've played. Some fairways had holes that were about 6 inches in diameter, probably made by some animal. Several greens had burned out areas on them. The person we were paired with agreed that the conditions were very bad. We were surprised at the conditions, and disappointed because the layout is good. For the price, we won't return this year.
Owner of this course a major dissappointment
Arnold Palmer would not be pleased to see one of his good creations in such poor condition. The owners obviously either don't care or have no common sense when it comes to having such a great layout and a very poor conditioned golf course. Hardly much grass on the fairways and on the greens with lots of bare spots. Fairway bunkers had way too much sand in them which made the ball sit down and swings difficult to execute along with the green side bunkers again too much sand, poorly maintained and all balls would bury into fried egg lies.
It is very obvious why this course is not busy at all. The price they are asking to play is twice what it's worth and my
Recommendation is to avoid playing here and spend your time and money where they appreciate golfers who spend their money wanting to play a decent golf course.
Even the employee are angry about the conditions because it affects their livelihood as well
Stressed
Course is very thirsty. Overseed seems dead. Fairways are almost bare. A little grass in shady spots. Greens are spotted with some kind of critter damage. No repair attempt evident. Saw one maintenance crew on the course and they were spreading pine straw on ornamentals. Course needs maintenance badly and soon. So much better in the past. Can't recommend as is.
Disappointed
For the money we paid this was a pure robbery there are many different golf course to play in the area that are in much better shape would not recommend this to anyone
Sad Changes
We have played, and always enjoyed, this course for many years of golf junkets to Orlando. Extremely disappointed and saddened this year. Weeds growing on some greens. Bare and uneven tee boxes. Hard to find good lies in some fairways. What really indicated where this once plush course is going were the self-printed scorecards. Clearly they do not have the money to keep the course up as it deserves. Great layout. Could be a very special venue. So sad.
Going down hill
Orange lake is a huge resort area. I have played the legends over the years. Each time I come down, the conditions get worse and worse. It is no way worth rack rate to play here. I play for the convinance of being at the resort.
I do like how some of the holes were designed. You can really use your imagination on how you want to play the hole.
I just can't see that they don't have money to make this course great. They always seemed to be packed with green fees.
Sparse fairways and greens with sand piles in them
Turf condition very poor
Sand piles on greens
Weeds growing on greens
Won't go back
Charming course
Greeted by friendly staff that loaded cart immediately. Starter paired us with another couple from Canada. Putting practice area right next to tee number 1 to calibrate before round. Tee boxes are in great shape, fairways are wide open, greens roll nicely. The course layout is challenging and flag placement can make some greens difficult. Played in 4 hours and enjoyed every hole. Will come back
I couldn't agree more with the previous comment made with regards to poor management of the orange lake legends golf course. I would like to add that not only the legends golf course has suffered, but also the reserve and cranes Bend. It has always been considered a real treat and pleasure to play the legends golf course since it was built in 1998, the goal that I am certain Mr. Palmer had in mind. It absolutely hurts to see such a wonderful golf course go downhill as it has since orange lake turned it over to integrity. Being an owner here at Orange Lake since 1987, it was always something that not only myself, but others that have been invited to join me looked forward too. I sincerely hope that Mr. Harrill reviews these comments and makes a very, very tough decision as to how this can be changed and improved. Until then, the amount of golf our group will play on this premise will be extremely limited.
This is an accurate description of the course as of March 19th, 2017.
