The 18-hole Gulf Shores Golf Club (formerly known as Golf Club of The Wharf) in Gulf Shores, Alabama is a public golf course that opened in 1963. Slow play
First 7 holes were great pace, but from there on we had to wait at every tee behind at least two groups. Marshalls blamed pace on multiple foursomes followed by twosomes but it didn’t seem they were doing anything to move the foursomes along.
Good round
The starter was real nice, able to play as a single in just over 2 hours. Greens were solid, course in decent shape, bunkers good
Vacation Golf
Picked this course after reading the reviews and found it to be great. We could warm up at the range and putting green and seperate chipping green. Then the day allowed for the starter to send us out early and we had a single come up behind us on number one at the right moment so we let him through and the rest of the day was all to ourselves. We couldn't ask for a better day of golf.
Nice course, a little expensive but beautiful fairways
Very nice course that we heard about, especially the black faced squirrels which were very tamed. The fairways were really in great shape and most greens were beautiful. Tee boxes need some work. Lots of bunkers on the course around the greens. A very challenging course for a beginner, but once you get through the front 9 and get your swing going, somewhat easier. Overall, we’d probably play it again next year when we visit.
Beat the heat - tougher than you think
Arrived to one nice lady and another that was snippy because we booked on golf now - unsure why she needed to snub us as we'd of been at a different course if it had not been a hot deal day. Course is mature - laid out really challenging. Long straight fairways, short par 3s, tight dog legs,, water and lots of sand just where your drives land. Struggling w weed patches on several greens. Overall good shape. I enjoyed it.
Fire the Marshall
Greens looked short on grass - half green/ half tan with lots of Poa Anna. Fairways thin on front 9 and half of back 9. Tees were in bad shape.
Pace of play was 5 on the front 1.5 hours, -5 on back - 3 hrs. Best we could tell there was one twosome holding us up. Typical hole had 3 group on the tee waiting and 1 - 2 groups behind them waiting. "Marshall" or some course employee was sitting near 13 tee with 4 groups on the hole and never looked up or did anything to speed up the slowpokes. In fact, while on that hole, the slowbes stopped the cart girl where they had hit drives (or maybe 2d shots) and got drinks. Marshall did nothing!
Good course with bad weed problem
One of my favorite courses but has a serous crabgrass problem. Seems to get worse every year. It's a shame.
