Boulder Oaks Golf Club

They recently changed the layout of the course and the golf app I used didn’t have the updates so I had to play old school going by the markers which I couldn’t always find

Not a bad place to come enjoy a round of golf. I come here often and I always enjoy playing Boulder oaks. Challenging course that requires your driver to be on point otherwise you’re in for a rough second shot. Greens are always nice, staff/ bar has super cool people.

This course is great, a lot of the reviews are kind of nitpicky on the conditions, I think of all the courses that I’ve played out in San Diego area this one is one that is getting better and better! Super great layout and was a fun round! I would go back and play this coarse again!

Great layout, fun design. Yes like the other reviews show the course has seen better days, I appreciate that they’re spending money to improve what impacts the game most immediately. Greens, fringe and relevant portions of fairway. Hit a bad tee shot, shank something short left or right and you’ll be playing out a “desert” scape.

$50 for a Sunday morning time, I’ll be going back when I need a last second tee time!

I played this course years ago and came back because I remembered the fantastic vistas. The course was in horrible shape from the very dried out first hole to the eight-inch-long grass around the greens. Maintenance is obviously a problem there. Either they don't have the help or can't afford to pay to get it.

The grass was thick. The clubhouse was in construction. No indication that the kitchen was not open when we booked. Markers missing on several holes. In future this should be ok course. Hope they finish repairs and do course mowing maintenance. Also a lot of thorny weed bushes which are not so pretty. Would love to come back under better conditions.

For $30 you cannot go wrong here!

Cons:

- Grass is good for summer months, But TOO TALL there are many parts of the FAIRWAY that the grass was so tall you’d lose your ball after a pure drive down the middle. Absolutely bonkers!

-Layout is odd with random extra par 3 hole in the front 9, some may enjoy but it caused us not a chaos with our group using GPS apps

-Don’t bother with GPS apps as they changed the order of the holes here and the extra hole throws it off.

Pros:

-Course conditions: were better than average for end of summer, grass was LUSH - Too lush…

- Pace of play good for Labor Day even for newbies

-Very nice views

- Awesome budget course if you book through the App for <$30

Challenging course, friendly staff, fast pace of play and good course conditions. Best value for the $ in Escondido!

The course has improved a lot in the past two months, the tee boxes, fairways and greens are in nice condition.

The negative is the fairways are very uneven and the rough needs to be better maintained, balls hit down the middle tend to roll off the fairway and can be difficult to find. Overall better but still room for improvement.

This course has insane potential but is lacking the financial side to make it happen. Even when talking to one of the employees I was saddened to hear that they extended everybody’s shifts hours and cut the number of employees working. The person even went as far to say the course owner “penny pinches”. All the staff were friendly and helpful, but the course lay out and design is atrocious. I feel like every hole I finished I had no idea where the next hole even was and even other golfers were asking us where holes were located. Some cart paths were blocked off with string leading you to go off roading which I’m not a stranger to doing but I felt it just made it more confusing. The greens were in fabulous shape but the fairways are thick and not very firm. A majority of the holes in this course are blind shots and the yardages listed on the score card are completely different than the signs on the tee box. This is such an easy fix and I know it’s not been fixed due to a lack of funds. It was fun and I always enjoy getting out for a round (better than working) but I had a chip on my shoulder about the things I discussed.

Golf course was great. The fairways were green, greens were pretty good. But, it took us over 5 hours to play 16 and couldn’t finish the round because we were stuck behind 6+ groups on a Sunday morning. Wish I could have played all 18…

Course was in horrendous shape. Sad to see it go downhill like that.

I first played Boulder Oaks 4 years ago and WOW what a change in the conditions! Greens are now consistent with very few small bad spots. Fairways are starting to fill in nicely. Most tee boxes need help, grass is very inconsistent and crabgrass is prevalent. Like the rerouting of the holes as well. Another bonus is the new carts! Thanks
