Par 3, grass clippings, disc golfers, kids
Its a solid course for the price. I feel like it should state par3 or exectuive course somewhere. Maybe it does and i missed it.
One gripe of the course in general is the grass clippings. Lost like 3 balls from the grass clippins outside of the fairway. Theres tons of them and theyre like 3 inches high. Meaning the balls go into them and vanish.
Also had disc golfers walking the course in which we were stuck behind and eventually just skipped the hole they were on and played through.
Also came across a guy and his kids just sitting at a hole playing on their phone and taking photos of the kids. Not a big deal but we ended up also just skipping that hole after waiting like 15 minutes behind them as they just sat by the actual hole.
It’s hard. Get over it.
This course will eat your balls with tight fairways and small greens. Some of them aren’t green. The tee boxes are chunky and uneven and sometimes they aren’t marked properly. I played in the afternoon and for 30 or less it’s worth it. I playedd 12 holes in 1hr 30min but the last 6 holes took 1hr30min. So pace of play can die fast and no one will come help. It’s not a perfect course. But if you want to practice playing from the rough at the tee box this is the course for you
What happened?
I played this course a couple of years back and had the time of my life for the price. The. I took my buddy about two months ago. It was one of the worst courses I have seen in San Diego. They had pieces of sod just cut out from the fairway and placed on the greens. The tee boxes were gone. It was just horrible. And it was about $45 a person. I got my money back after because it was just insane how difficult the course was to play just because of the conditions
Fun, Value Course that needs some TLC
I grew up playing this course, this is my first time playing since it is under new management.
Pros:
-Great value: we played twilight and it was only $20 to walk
-Good layout: this is a well designed course on a nice piece of land. There’s a lot of variety. This layout is probably my favorite among the par 3’s/executives in the county.
-Shot variety: for me playing from the blue tees, I used everything from 56 degree to 4 iron. Longer hitters may not need as much club as me, though.
-Pace: We basically had the place to ourselves, and finished in about 3 hours.
Cons:
-Greens: it seemed like half or more of the greens were diseased and patchy. In addition, they were quite bushy and slow. It felt like putting on the fringe. The fungus or whatever is hurting it needs to be addressed, and they need to be mowed and rolled.
-Tee boxes: Very patchy, which is understandable for an affordable Muni course with a bunch of hackers like myself playing. Still, there were some easy to address maintenance issues. For example, they could have mowed the tee boxes. There is very long grass in random spots.
-Muddy areas: seem to be some drainage/runoff issues, and your foot would sink into mud. Not the biggest deal, but would have been if I had hit into one of those spots.
Overall, I would still recommend to a friend and play it again. But, mainly because of the price and fun layout. If the price started creeping up I’d probably look at other options. If they address the greens and tee boxes, this could easily be a 4-5 star course, best in its class (par 3). The course has good bones, but management needs to address the course condition issues.
Frisbee friendly Reidy Creek
Terrible experience when the golf course was taken over by a group of 9 hooligans flying their frisbees ahead of my twosome. They had complete disregard to us and would not let us pass. Called the Proshop for help. They came and just looked at the group and allowed them to continue to play. Total waste of time even though our green fees were refunded. Stay away if you want to enjoy a nice round of golf
Solid executive course in Escondido
Reidy Creek could be one of the better all par 3 executive courses in San Diego. Course conditions are hit and miss though. Greens have great potential for hole locations but some areas of the greens are in bad shape. Pretty good variety of holes if you play from the Blues. Everything from LW to 4 or 5 iron. Too many holes in the 115-135 range... seemed like I pulled my GW about 9-10 times. Of the other holes I believe I had 2 58* wedges, 2 9i, 2 8i, then 1 hole each of a 7i, 6i and 5i. Sand traps are hard as a rock, but thats typical kf every course I've played since courses reopened. Overall an enjoyable experience. If greens were in better condition, rating would have been higher.
Bang for your buck
Reidy creek is a great small course if you want some difficulty but a quick round. Its got some length for a par 3 course. It can at time get backed up due to disc and foot golfers but its not bad. Most recently they redid the bunkers and the greens are looking really great. The layout is wrapped around each other but the landscape does a great job of isolating most holes so you don't see other groups and at times can feel like you are on the course by yourself (mostly on the front 9) . Overall the course on a good day is a pretty nice course. I have played it before where they let it go a bit but they do tend to reel it back in now and again. (Clubs used mostly wedges through 6 iron)
Over booked
There was a frisbee golf tournament going on at the same time which made the course a little packed. Luckily I showed up an hour earlier than my t-time to get the “last open t-time”. But still, we were constantly watching the group in front of us t off and had 2 groups behind us on our tail.
But, we’re all adults and had some nice conversations, but still it put the pressure on when you have an audience when you T off.
So much fun!
Such a great course! Pace was good, conditions were good, staff was amazing. Wish I had something like this closer to home!
Very Mediocre Course
Staff was super friendly, however the course wasn't amazing, a few of the greens were extremely patchy. There we some very noisy disc golfers on the course as well, they were yelling, driving their carts all around the greens, and playing loud music. Having a Marshall do a lap around the course would have fixed this, however there was no Marshall present.
Bottom line, this was a quick course that didn't end up meeting the value of what I paid. I'd rather go to Welks par 3 course for the same price for a nicer course with players that respect each other's game.
Great Par 3 Course
5 mins away from my parents' house. Would play again. Price does not include cart. Course condition was pretty darn good for this time of year. Challenging and every hole different. Greens were good w a few rough spots. Tee boxes were in great condition. Pace of play was great and Dave in the shop was awesome! My Dads first time and def wants to come back. Great round!
Great Walking Course
Great short course to walk. Pace of play was good. Greens were good for public course.
This is a poor golf course / foot golf / frisbee golf ! No water in ball cleaners, start on back 9 but when I got to front 9 others were let on, tunnel is flooded and not being drained ( have to cross Main Street at light ). Golf Now Hot deal is no deal ($13.00 + $3.49+ $10.00 = $26.49 $2.00 more then normal Golfnow rate (with cart ) ( $22.00 + $2.49 = $24.49 ) 10 minutes between tee times ( what and read carefully the Hot Deals at Golfnow!
