the course needs some work
Greens need some work for improvement. fairway was ok. Slow pace play, behind a 5 some, which were held up by a couple of slow players, Course marshall asked if the 5 some should be split, but it wasn't them that held up the play, it was the couple ahead of them.
Cheap but still not worth it.
Why the city continues to keep this course open is beyond me. The fairways are dead, dry grass that seems to have been dyed a putrid green. The tee boxes are in decent shape as are the green areas but the greens are like concrete and good luck with finding sand.
That said it was very busy so there ae lots of folks more forgiving thn I.
good little muny
Does what it says on the tin...a good little muny. You get what you pay for.
El Rio
I played El Rio for the first time with three men from Green Valley. Overall, course was average for winter AZ conditions. Fairways are brown and not much to hit off. Tees and greens are green and pretty good. Nice old course with mature trees. Pace was good, finished in 3.5 hours, four players, two carts.
Play it for the history.
Course is getting better overall. Will play again. Score card need to be updated to provide more information about the course/greens. Course layout would be helpful.
fun in the city
Course is in very good shape, they do work on the sand bunkers, staff is cool, had a good time..
markers
They need more markers on the coarse? Something you canseeinstead of wasting time looking for markers on ground?
Good day of Golf
The course has so much history as the Tucson Open and it is the same exact course, it is fun to imagine the past and the fun the pro's had playing this course.
Great bunkering around greens
Course is a good challenge around the greens, worth playing again
El Rio getting better
EL RIO is getting in better shape. The best I've ever seen it. Fun course at a real fair price. Easy to walk on and play after Noon.
Improvments
I have played Rio several times and the court is improving a lot the last couple of months but bunkers need to be improved,
tax
One thing I don't understand, (please clarify),, When I use golf now and pay a certain amount then my confirmation email say the amount that is due at the course and when I try to pay at the course they always charge me a little more and say its taxes. What's going on. .But after arguing my point a bit she ended up giving me the course rate which was $18 vs golfnow rate of $27.
good last minute tee time
El Rio is in good shape and is a great place to work on straight shots.....a challenge for most of us.....:).
NOT EVEN A LONE RANGER
There was a 4some 2 groups ahead of us that were goofing around and hitting extra balls and no ranger on the course to inform them that they needed to pick up the pace.
Nice course
The course was in good shape, fairways and roughs were well maintained and the course was easy to follow. The greens were slow but consistent making them easy to play. A few of the tee boxes are in need of maintenance as they are overgrown with uneven plots of grass. As with most muni courses here in Tucson the bunkers are terrible. They have little or no sand and are basically loose packed dirt. They are definitely in need of attention.
Overall, Trini Alvarez El Rio golf course is quite nice and I'd recommend it.
Good value
As always this course is fun to play. Simple to look at but enough trees for a lot of trouble. It was in good shape though the greens are getting burned in spots. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make it enjoyable which is not always found in Tucson,
NIce course for value
It was a great course to play on. Will play it again.
after work round
Got off work at 4, started playing at 4;22. got through first 9 and realized I only had 45 minutes to play back 9. front 9 was enjoyable, back 9 nit so much. Course was in great shape as usual. no more starting late for 18 holes.
For a city course, the course has no great features, tee boxes are in less than average shape
Ok for $12 dollars, nothing great to write home about.

Course was in great shape. Greens where just right. No one was in front of us but the course had plenty of players
Yes. Please clarify. There isn't much point buying "discount" tee times online if the course is just going to upgross the difference at point of sale.
