Greens in terrible shape.
The course was in ok condition, but the greens were in very poor shape. The greens were sanded/dressed recently, but it appeared that they don't get watered like they should. It was a 100* day but they was no evidence that the greens were getting any individual attention.(extra water to help the green absorb the sand/dressing) A course alert would have been nice to let people know about the greens,
new management
i think the new management company is doing a great job of refurbishing the golf course .
It's El Rio as usual
Course was in good shape, greens were a little slower than usual at midday, t-boxes were good and fairways a little thin, but ok. Bunkers need sand.
Better Fairways in my Backyard
My husband and I played this course for the first time yesterday. We were excited to try one of the city courses after playing some of the other public courses, though now we are scared to try any of the other city courses. The staff was very nice. The fairways were non-existent. The fairways contained weeds, multiple types of grass and random dirt patches. The"fringe" was more like the rough, and the ones that had been recently groomed had grass clippings in tufts still on them. There were random fences with chicken wire. The greens were very inconsistent. In summary, I will never be returning to El Rio.
course is improving
The effects of having a new managment team is begining to show. They also said that they should be getting a new shipment of carts in the near future.
good layout with some challeging holes
First time out on vacation inTucson, AZ. Course is a good layout with some challeges. Fairways were dry and the greens were in good shape.
good course but watch the breaks on greens
the 19th hole is not available during the week, that
is only thing I find negative at this course.
Sand Sand Sand
Please if your gonna have sand traps located close to the greens with 4 foot lips. please put sand in them. Golfers even behind us stated the just take their golf balls out of sand traps. Many are filled with water and are as hard as a brick. I am not a professional golfer but I like to score. Its very frustrating to hit a ball in the trap and it be hard as a brick. Sand is to help the ball out of traps. The bounce of the clubs from this hard cement makes getting out terrible. I have ask this on many city courses and it seems no one is addressing it. I played Silverbell this past weekend and when you have enough water in sand for the ducks to play in . Please have course superintendents please walk the course in the morning and see what they can do to help in this reguard.
El Rio Tucson
Haven't played this course in years but it was like I remember long somewhat challenging good condition. Staff friendly and good value.
good price
The course was fair to average at best. The course is not well maintained and is a bit rundown including the carts. The price was cheap but like they say, you get what you pay for. The staff was friendly. Hopefully under new management things will improve.
Not great condition, but fair price
Most of the staff was friendly. The course was perfectly flat. Very poor hard bunker sand. Course definitely needed TLC. But I guess also cheaper than most, and a good course for the beginner.
SAND TRAPS
They are supposed to be called sand traps, NOT CONCRETE TRAPS. the sand needs to be rototilled
or more sand added. it was like hitting a ball off of the concrete. horrible sand traps that need serious attention from the maintenance crew. I will not play there again until I check with the course and make sure they have fixed this PROBLEM. and I will tell everyone I know not to play there. IT IS AN EASY FIX AND THEY NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
Good course
The course is in good shape. When will you put out your summer rates?
improvement suggestions
This course good be a great value if the course conditions were improved.
the fairways need attention. The bunkers need substantial improvement.
The club house needs to be spruced up-it is showing a lot of age.
The putting green is primitive.
Time Well Spent
We came to Tucson to golf and we played several well known and manicured area courses - all good fun, The day we flew out we knew we didn't have a lot of time but still wanted to get a last round in. Low and behold, El Rio appeared on the radar! We loved it and played 18 in 3 hours and still made our flight. Ok, so it wasn't terribly difficult, but we're not the great golfers that might look down on this course. We both found challenges and rewards. And more
importantly, the people we met on the course as well as those in the shop, were down-to-earth nice people who could laugh and smile along with us.It was a slice of real golf America.
Course / Bunkers
The course is in fair shape. Tee boxes and greens are average. Some areas are patchy and in need of repair. The bunkers are horrible: no sand, just mud and dirt is the norm . New management should take full control of the course conditioning.
Average coourse made dificut because of traps around greens with small greens
Sand traps still need sand. would like to have tee areas softer sometion\mes I feel that I need a hammer to getthe tee in the groumd Good value for thwe money
Fun course!
I walked this course with my sister and another female friend (none of us play much). We had such a wonderful time and everyone was so nice (maybe because we met everyone around us as it seemed we were playing in several fairways...see note about not playing often) The course was in good shape and the weather was absolutely beautiful!
the layout was great
the fairways are pretty dry. the ball will run for a bit. the greens are ok, and the price was right
Typical city of Tucson course
Course crowded. Golf carts were at a premium (not many available). Was not on list.- had to prove my tee time with Golf Now print out.
