In great condition!!
If you’ve never played El Rio before, I suggest giving it a shot! The course is in very good shape right now after over-seeding. Tees and fairways are pretty good and the greens are excellent and fast! Bunkers were a little hard but well maintained. I played from the blue tees and it’s only 6400+ yards but plenty challenging. Enjoy!
A good place to play golf
Staff was friendly and helpful. It was surprisingly a little chilly on 11/7, so wearing a sweater made it permissible to review the weather as "perfect." You will need to carry your clubs to golf cart area, rather than driving the golf cart out to the parking lot to fetch your clubs. "Cart Path Only" play was required today, and that was okay because we don't mind walking over from the cart path to hit the ball.
Good course but…
Fairways are too close together. We had 2 foursomes ahead and they were slower than molasses pouring in the the winter. Players were teeing from wrong box for skill level. Overall, would return for change of pace from courses closer to home.
Good for the price
Nice people and reasonable course. 4some in front of us was slow, but we didn’t worry and relaxed. Sand could be a little work and greens were a mix of slow and fast. Overall not bad for a municipal course.
If the ground crew!,
The grounds crew was cutting the grass, leaving all the clippings on the fairway. We lost balls into the grass on the fairway. If it wasn’t for that. It would’ve been great, but who leaves grass clippings in the fairway? I thought that was unusual. it was very frustrating.
So much potential
Would love to see City put funds into their existing facilities instead of building “Bike Paths”
This course is historic and should be treated as such. The greens were in horrible condition considering the amount of rain we’ve had recently. Lots of landscaping to do.
love the history
Love the historical side of this course and what part of it that is still present. What's sad is that they haven't put any sand in the traps since it opened in 1929! I mean... really!? There's thousands of square miles of sand surrounding Tucson!!!! I'm DONE getting rattled cuz I sent my bunker shot to the next tee box. From here forward, I will take my ball out of the trap (and not rake the trap just like the last 50 people who didn't) and place it on the grassless area outside the trap.
COME ON!!!!! I'm being cynical while trying to instill some sort of sarcastic humor in this, but this course deserves more love than what is being given to it. I love this place, have for a few years now, but it's evident once the snow birds are gone, it's allowed to suffer... until it's time to prep for their return in fall. Of course, we've all heard about Romero's desires to turn it into a park. Hmmm. I wonder?
Worth it for the price
I had my best score because the fairway was kind of dry and my ball kept on rolling!😆
The staff is great!
