This course used to be considered a hidden gem. Now, Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont is an off-the-beaten-path known reasonable joy. Stopping on the way from Los Angeles to Palm Springs for a golf detour is no fool's play. Not with the fast greens, dramatic elevation changes and swerving fairways available at Oak Valley in Beaumont.

A Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley design, Oak Valley is probably best known for greens that are anything but desert typical. Speed is the name of the game here, with a tap sometimes too much on a downhill putt.

Recognition does not travel that quickly. It took a decade for Oak Valley to get a four star rating from Golf Digest. Once it did, Beaumont suddenly became a golf stopping spot on the Palm Springs express. Now, you're considered a smart golfer if you linger on the way to Palm Springs.

"It's a nice getaway from the crowds in the desert, as well as some of the other, more populated golf areas," head pro Scott Arnold said. "It's almost like being in the country. No houses line the fairways. Each hole is different. And because of the way it's laid out, you often can't even see another hole from the one you're playing."

Greens are difficult

I have played this course quite a few times, and I have yet to have a good putting day'
The greens are difficult to read, and the course with its wild nature makes it a special treat.

Weather Delay and Tournament=slow play

I enjoyed this course but I picked the wrong day to go out due to a fog delay and there was tournament. Overall, I enjoyed the course. It is challenging from the tips.

Great course!!

We drove up from Palm Springs as this course was recommended. It was well worth the drive. The course was tougher than we thought and we enjoyed the challenge. Staff were very friendly. We will be back for a do over. It is right beside the highway so it is really convenient.

Jewel off I-10

This was my first time on this course and I loved it.
While the drought has affected most courses in this area with dry spots around the periphery, the course itself was very playable .
The fairways were very firm and with the very warm temperatures on my play day, the ball carried a long way making the long par fours very reachable with mid irons and the par fives with wedges. The greens were very quick and smooth but were receptive to a high ball and getting close to the pin was not always a challenege.
The layout was excellent with a great variety of holes , making shot and club selection very important.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and efficient, and the bar inside the cub house was well stocked with snacks and beverages to go.
I got a great deal on golf now and will certainly be back to play this course again from Palm Springs, where such deals are hard to come by in the winter months - although I will choose my date carefully as I am aware that the winds can blow briskly in this area.

Fun course

Course was fun, and was a pleasure to play. Fairways and greens were exceptional. Pace of play was awesome, since I played as a single, and never was slowed by anyone the whole round.

Best in the area

If you have enjoyed playing the two courses at Tukwet, get yourself over to Oak Valley for another treat. ALL of the staff could not be friendlier or more helpful and the course is a gem. Every hole different from the previous one and lots of lovely views. The bunkers could do with a little more sand and a few more yardages on the sprinkler heads would be a help, but other than that 10/10. As for the greens - like lightning ! Make sure you have a practice half way up the hill to the first tee or you'll regret it !

CHALLENGING BUT ENJOYABLE

THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY FROM THE MOMENT I PULLED UP. THE COURSE WAS IN PRISTINE CONDITION AND COURSE KNOWLEDGE IS A MUST. I WAS PAIRED UP WITH "REGULARS" THAT OFFERED ADVICE WILLINGLY, I ACCEPTED THEIR ADVICE THOUGH I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE COURSE. 3 BIRDIES AND FEW BOGEYS MADE IT A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

Gorgeous Course, REALLY TOUGH GREENS!

I loved this course / facility, great staff (ie. cart guys, starter) nice range & practice green! Really enjoyed the layout, lots of wildlife (saw a bobcat at 16 green) and great views of the mountains too! Here's the rub though... The fairways are semi narrow, so if you "spray your drives"... play from up tees and club down ! THE GREENS ARE VERY SLICK , FAST AND EXTREMELY UNDULATING! They are very RECEPTIVE to all shots, BUT making a putt longer than 4 ft. was very tough! I had a lot of wedges into greens and only made 1 birdie all day! =( Only down side, freeway noise was ever-present most of the front nine & second half of back nine! For me that's not a problem! I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY THIS ONE AGAIN!

Great Course

This is truly a beautiful and challenging course. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were pristine. The rough was really rough and needs a lot of work, but if you stay in the fairways (which I didn't) then you will be treated to a wonderful place to play. The fairways are lined with old growth trees that make this rolling hills course and the fact that their were maybe 25 people on the course all day really feel like an old school country club.

Wonderful Topography - Fast Greens - Nice Fairways

Took my Father for his 72nd BDay. I've really started playing golf this year & I don't know of a better way we could have spent the day. Except for the (10) freeway noise, it felt like a mini vaca. Beautiful scenery - wonderful conditions - Excellent driving range - I didn't notice the practice putting green until my way out. It's elevated above the driving range, just before the first hole. I've taken the time to mention that because it is worth spending a few minutes on these greens prior to teeing off. Very Fast Greens!
I did get a good "Hot Deal" & that made for a nice "splurge" for Pops BDay. Oak Valley was as good a golf experience as I've ever had.

Not Quite 5 Stars - But a Great Value!

I liked the course, and I really wanted to be able to give this course 5 stars - but I just can't. Bottom line, the overall condition of the course was good, but not excellent . The greens were a bit bumpy - looking like they were "punched" about 3-4 weeks ago. The fairways were also a bit rough - providing many "iffy" lies in the fairways. The tees were also unusually long - like they hadn't been mowed in 3-4 days. Another negative is that the carts do not have a GPS yardage system. Now for the good things... A truly challenging course with tree lined fairways, hills, water, and difficult greens. A warning to those with a handicap higher than single digit - this course will beat you up! Expect to loose more than a few golf balls, and expect to shoot at least 5-10 strokes above your average round. I will definitely play this course again.
