fairways
mostly skinny fairways with water on one side or the other
Great Value
Course is very green right now and in good solid shape. Best value anywhere in San Diego County. Pace of play here all depends on if the group in front of you can play golf or not so it's a crapshoot but the staff are super friendly and the price is right so get out there and play. Cheers!
Thank you for the great review. We're glad you found Chula Vista Golf Course to be the best value golf course in the area! Be sure to book your next tee time with us soon.
Slow play. Poor course conditions.
Took 5 1/2 hours to play. They were behind 40 minutes on tee times and and had groups backed up on every tee through the first six holes. Marshall’s are useless out there. There was a foursome that was behind 1 1/2 holes and I told the Marshal and he did nothing about it. Instead of going to move the group along he started fishing through the trash can for recyclables and eating peanuts. Fairways are thin on grass and finding a good lie is tough.
Fun round beautiful day for golf
The weather was absolutely perfect for golf. The fairways were spotty. The greens were in nice shape and
the ball rolled well. Sand traps were in the best shape of any course I have played in the last few months. The group in front of us were ridiculously slow and did not understand the concept of ready golf. Then they had the audacity to accuse of of almost hitting them when they were at the next tee box when we hit our approach shots to the green they had just left in front of us. This was a fun round of golf would definitely play this course again.
Fairways
The fairways have gone downhill over the past 3 years. It doesnt look like there is any improvement.
Improvements are being made
It is obvious that attempts are being made to improve the course conditions. Keep up the good work.
The staff are the best
My wife and I enjoyed the whole experience. Staff were so nice
We're happy to hear you and your wife enjoyed your round of golf with us! We hope to see you both again soon. Have a happy holiday!
Improvements
It appears that efforts are being made to improve the golf course. Thanks and keep trying.
Course is Garbage.
I am new to San Diego, and it might be due to the time of the year, but the amount of green grass on this course was minimal. I left after the 12th hole due to terrible conditions and slow play in front of us. Tee boxes were dirt, most fairways were dirt, water hazards were mostly just tall reeds. Holes were very straight and there was a ton of activity other than golf there ( runners and a social event with a live dj) nearby. Didnt like the course, didnt like the atmosphere, wont be back.
Classic Layout; needs some love
The course flooded out last winter and the recovery is slow. Most of the course is dirt with patches of grass. The approaches are mostly dirt dead grass and the greens although better are inconsistent.
We're sorry to learn you did not enjoy your round with us this time round. We hope you'll reach out to management directly to discuss the details of your experience in more detail.
Needs work.
This course needs some tlc. I’m sure it was nice at some point but seems a little neglected. The layout is great but not much elevation changes. Greens are either really dry and hard or soggy and muddy. My 2nd time playing with months apart and was hoping greens and fairways would be in better shape but not yet.
Worst course in San Diego
I paid $40 for this course because the photos looked okay and I didn’t recognize from the last time I was here. When we arrived I realized I had played here before and was not excited to play again. This is the WORST course I’ve ever played and I’m by no means someone who should be judging. But the tee boxes are bumpy dirt, fairways are mostly grey gravel with patchy crab grass mixed in. The rough is thicker versions of the same. The greens were patchy but rolled okay. The layout is actually kind of cool but nothing matters with these course conditions. My 3 best tee shots were 280-300 yard drives right down the middle and my lie was in yellow/grey crab grass impossible to get a clean chip out of. I will not be returning.
Greens are in good shape, can’t say the same for the fairways. Good course to practice at.
At least it's open
With all the course closures (Doubletree, Carmel Mountain, Salt Creek, impending Riverwalk), Chula Vista Municipal's only saving grace is that it is still operating. Bare fairways are inexcusable. Same with uneven tee boxes. Most greens fine, others diseased. Starter at first tee barks at us for two players who are late; we bark back at him that they're not with us. Impolite at best, downright incompetent and rude at worst, assuming all foursomes are "together". Go to Bonita GC down the street - much more enjoyable experience with superior amenities.
Hard as a Rock
65 % to 70% of fairways are dirt and dead grass, definitely can use lots of water or some rainy days. Greens are playable, a little slow but will do. Hopefully will rain soon...Fairways can turn into a concrete slab.
Save this course for February 2020.
Judging by what I observed as far as course conditions, this course will not be ready to play until February 2020. If the maintenance crew does everything right as far as bringing the course up to par, 3 to 4 months will be needed.
Thank you for the positive rating. We hope to see you out on the golf course soon.
