About

Gary Player designed the 27 championship holes at Steele Canyon Golf Club in Jamul. The holes are divided into three unique nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The nines, called Canyon, Vineyard, and Ranch, each offer a different character but they are equally challenging. On the Ranch/Vineyard Course, golfers will be playing alongside free-roaming cattle that wander across the grassy meadows. There are a few elevation changes but they are not as dramatic as on the Canyon nine. Water hazards come into play several times and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with as well. The third hole on the Ranch nine is the signature hole at Steele Canyon. This tricky par 4 plays from an elevated tee that sits 175 feet above the fairway. It is made even tougher by the prevailing winds that blow from left to right.

Beautiful course, down to earth people, excellent experience

I took my son to San Diego for a 5 day golf trip to celebrate him graduating from college. This was our favorite overall course close to San Diego. It was beautiful, the employees are extremely polite and helpful, and it was reasonably priced. We played this course twice. My knees are a challenge for me. This course has all of the beautiful landscaping and natural hills, etc and it was very easy on my knees. I would recommend this course to anyone who pops into San Diego and wants to play a high end course at a reasonable price.

Excellent Course in great shape!

We got an exceptional rate to play on a Monday. My son and I played by ourselves behind a threesome. We never had to wait other than the first hole. Considering how dry the outlying areas are, the fairways were in fantastic shape. Greens were also in great shape and played fairly once you got the feel. Try only complaint and why I didn’t give 5 stars all the way around were their tee boxes. They were not cut very short and obviously needed some weed protection. If they improved their tee boxes, this might be one of the best courses in the SD area.

Still fun

Haven't played here in awhile. Canyon was closed for a tourney and was sent to vineyard/ ranch. Paired with a single and allowed our own carts! Another twosome eventually joined us when it got backed up at the 4th. Still, we were on a 4 hr pace..on a Sunday! The course was in good condition with fast greens.

The only downside was the group behind us asking to play through even though we were on a good pace

Also, there was two groups ahead of us so there was no place for them to proceed. Of course, they were annoyed but too bad.

Solid challenge course!

Course was a little dry on areas, but the greens were fast and good bunkers were not what I’ve expected… Kind of like dirt, but the overall track is so good… Place a real golfers course…
