Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Great potential but........
This course has such a great feel, beautiful layout. Sadly, the place gets little investment. The cart paths are very rough slowing down the round. Fairways need covered in topsoil then totally rototilled under. Greens are better but still in need of upgrades. Sand traps are a mess. The hotels , resorts are getting hurt. They should all kick in some money.

Course
Way too many new and old gopher holes/tunnels. Driving range pretty much garbage. Greens in bad shape. It’s just not a good course.
Disappointed
Played this maybe 30 years ago.. I was looking forward to playing it again. I sadly was disappointed in the overall condition of the fairways, tee boxes and greens, not to mention the bunkers. I read some reviews after I booked my tee time. I am visiting from Northern California. I kinda knew what to expect, but ot was worse than I thought. I played early morning and ended up being a single. I had a hard time navigating from hole to hole. The cart paths were poorly marked. I ended up going from the six hole green to the ninth tee, which I thought was the seventh. Did not know that till I finished the hole. Ended up asking a grounds worker about what happened. Apparently, it happens all the time. What staff I did encounter were very friendly. I’m glad I got the hot deal price. It’s unfortunate that the course has been neglected it’s in such a beautiful area. Wish I could say it was better than it was….
Goat track
This course has gone downhill so much, its absurd they even try charging anyone to play this poor excuse for a golf course. I wouldn't pay $10 to play again. Every. Single. Aspect. Just sucks. Maintenance is trash, it feels like I'm in the middle of the desert when on these fairways. As if your hitting off concrete at times, it's so dry you make a dust cloud when hitting FROM THE FAIRWAY.
Greens have ball marks everywhere from the members/old people never fixing their ball marks. No putt will go in a straight line
No tee box has any flat area at all.
The absolute worst course conditions I've ever played.
Bunkers are absolute trash, no sand in sight, its akin to a hole just dug into the ground with rocks & weeds abundant. This place needs new ownership, people who actually care about golf. The current owners evidently only care about renting the venue for events.
Golfers should GET PAID to play this goat track/cow pasture, not the other way around
Unlimited Potential
This course could be absolutely be one of the most challenging and beautiful courses I’ve ever played. It’s set in such a beautiful location the holes. Each hole is a brand new challenge unlike others… but the grass (fairways, rough and greens) are so poorly maintained that it made it frustrating to play. I hope that someone form the course reads this and understands that they have one of the most beautiful and unique courses, but have let the golf aspect die. I hope that I can play this course in a year and it is shown some love
Dont do it!
The coarse is in horrible condition and needs a complete rehabilitation.
Relic of the past
Was excited to play, left disappointed. The coarse is not looked after or maintained. Horrible conditions. Way overpriced. Needs a face-lift
Best Place Lost
Avila Beach Golf Course is located in one of the best places in California. The Golf course has a great layout and could be great, but they let it go and unfortunately golfers have stopped coming. I know I won’t be back.
Fresh Air
New course, the green had a bit of algae, however nice place. I will be back. The pro shop could have had a better selection of all. Overall a nice course.
Not the same course
I was surprised how downhill this course has become. Five greens were ridiculous. Greens obviously not maintained. Never seen this course in such poor condition. Hopefully they turn it around since it is in such a great location.
Course has gone Downhill
Greens were damaged and uneven. Grass around course was dead and spotty. Cart paths were in bad shape. Pretty disappointed to see how the course is maintained.
Great Layout, Bridges are Fixed for better Cart Path
Greens are rough, kinda looks like a topographical map on most. Sand isn’t sand it’s like hard mud. For the price with a hot deal time, kinda hard to beat on the central coast. Fairways are in good enough shape to play. Would not pay over $50 to play here. They did fix the bridges so that’s nice when navigating the course
Went for the ocean views
Really can’t see much of the ocean. You can see the estuary on the back nine. Fairways were in OK condition. Greens, well, they were greens. Some of the greens were actually terrible, with the conditions of the grass such that it was impossible for someone to putt fairly. Well, I played it once and I’m good. Employees were all very friendly and helpful.
