Lakes/Oaks at Blacklake Golf Course
About
Situated along California's Central Coast atop the Nipomo Mesa, Blacklake Golf Resort offers three different nines, each named after the different attributes of the beautiful landscape. The nines can be played in three different 18-hole combinations. Players of all skill levels will be able to find a golf course that suits them. The Lakes/Oaks Course begins with the most player friendly of the three nines. Though as the name implies, water does come into play but the fairways are wide and forgiving. The opening par-3 hole gives you a confident start but the length keeps it from being a pushover. The Oaks nine features narrower fairways that wind through groves of coastal oak trees. It is a more target-style layout where you may find yourself in the woods if you're not paying attention.

Some minor damage
Luckily I was pared up with two guys who knew the course. Greens in good shape, some damage to fairways from recent storms. I played Gold tees on Canyon & Lakes 9's for 4800 yards total. Mostly bogies and doubles, not uncommon for first time play.
Good value and condition
Many courses in the area have sustained weather damage. Blacklake's damage was minimal. Being a senior I would have preferred for the Red tees to be a neutral color for both seniors and women. The whites are too long and the golds are not really tees on many holes. The electric carts are great, and the staff friendly
great day playing at Black Lake
The coarse is in good shape. The fairways need little TLC, but, all in all I had a great time. The staff are always friendly

Tee boxes seem neglected and fairways are in bad shape.

Ok experience
The course needs to be maintained much better for the price point in my opinion. It puts itself as a resort due to cost, but the maintenance needs improvement, most likely management of the course if the culprit. Drove in surrounded by beautiful homes- well kept streets, the course played like a muni.
Greens are in good condition.. fairways and tee boxes need help
Tee box
Teeing off on uneven surfaces is the trademark for this course. I understand the owner, Mr Rossi likes to use this course as on of his write offs for his business
Not worth it
The lakes course was in ok shape.
At least it had some green stuff to place your ball on. I would not dare to call it grass. Lots of gopher mounds and bear spots on the fairways. We played 2 club free drop in the fair way just to have something to hit off of. Greens and chipping in fair shape.
The canyon course was the same as above only twice as bad. Plus there was debris from the trees all over the course. A total lack of maintenance. Don't waste your time or money here. Go to Morro Bay golf course.

Worst course in 2023
The marmots have taken over. Fairways very poor. Tee boxes were horrible.
This by far has been the worst course I've played in 2023.
Great course layout
But a great layout is swiftly followed by bad bounces and worse lies greens were slow and bumpy but I am spoiled when it comes to putting surfaces overall the course is for sure recommended because you get a great round for a decent price which is harder to find on the Central Coast
Good
Canyon greens were decent but the oaks greens were a little rough. A couple t boxes needed some work. Had a good time. Ill be back.
