River Falls Plantation
About
River Falls Golf Plantation in Duncan is a Gary Player Signature Course. Its location makes it convenient for meeting up with people coming from Asheville, Columbia, Atlanta, or Charlotte. The golf course is also just minutes away from downtown Greenville. The narrow layout will test the accuracy and shot making abilities of even the best golfers. Rolling hills provide a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Water hazards come into play frequently and there are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and fairways. Player crafted a golf course that is both formidable and scenic. The abundance of mature trees helped him achieve this. He carefully wove River Falls Golf Plantation through the mature forests, allowing the trees to surround the holes, giving each a secluded and peaceful feel.

Played front 9
Well organized, were able to get on course at our tee time, course was well maintained and easy to navigate. Will play there again.
Play was slow as course was tightly scheduled and "full." Given the time of year the course was in good shape. Very fast greens, but puttable.
I rate this course slightly above average for layout; certainly does not play long, but accuracy is required.
Average at best
I played hers several times a few years ago and it was a nice course. It could be again with proper maintenance. Not much grass in fairways and greens very bumpy.
Beautiful course, would love to play again in the Spring/Summer
Beautiful and challenging course. I did however play in late Winter so obviously the course was not in pristine condition but it was considerably better than the majority of others in the area given the time of year. The price was a little steep (thank god for the discount) and the staff was super nice. Had a great time and would definitely recommend this course to a friend.
Course was in great shape after all the rain we had recently
The greens were true without many hidden surprises.
First round an adventure, every round thereafter a pleasure.
Considering winter play the course was in excellent condition. Fairways are excellent and greens are even better. Facilities were exceptional with excellent service and food.
There was no real negative to the course. However, you need to play it once before you concern yourself with scoring. There are an inordinate number of holes where you have no idea of the landing area, even if you have the course yardage book. You have to look out where you think the fairway would be and just trust it. If you are capable of just hitting into an abyss without concern you are usually fine as the fairways are very fair, just not visible from the tee boxes.
Also, for a course that is only 6500 yards, it has several holes where a driver is actually required, unlike most of the courses in the area. There are holes that are shorter and they require shot making skills but have fair landing areas. And the approach shots are varied in lengths and shot making requirements.
Once you have played the course you will be astounded at the assortment of shots required and the pleasure you find in accomplishment. Your pleasure will be enhanced by experiencing some the fastest, smoothest greens you have ever played.
Greens are great, good track, friendly staff, great value
I would highly recommend. Pace of play was good. The greens are very good. The course is very fair with a few tight holes. It is challenging from the back tees.
slow play great course
Great course for the money. The only thing is my foursome tracked down several groups that insisted on playing slow with no ranger it took us 2.5 hours to play the back side.
Greens and fairgrounds in excellent condition
Staff was closing course down due to cold front coming to cover greens. and my elderly Dad and I had the entire course to ourselves for the whole day....Priceless experience!!!
One of the better public courses in the upstate / values
I haven't played here in a few years but really enjoyed it. Long hitters will be challenged a few times with risk/reward shots. GolfNow.com got me a great deal on the course, would gladly play there again.
Very good value for the money
Very scenic area on several holes; some blind holes makes for a challenge. Definitely need a cart.
Very nice course great value
Very nice course. Some nice challenging holes. beautiful scenery. everything was great. Bunkers needed work, but stay out of the bunkers. We will play it again
great course, great layout
played on a cloudy day in december and was only one on course. first time playing it - thought it was great! would love to play again in summer. great mix of risk reward holes.
course has unexpecdted difficulty.
The course was in great shape, very clean. All greens were clean and rolled smooth. There are holes with problems you cannot see until you are upon them. Several holes with water just before the greens make shots critical to be over the creek. Several nice long doglegs make for tough second shots but fair!
Interesting, distinctive layout. Good condition.
River Falls is an interesting, challenging course. Some holes have significant elevation changes. The greens were in good shape, firm and fast. The Bermuda grass on the rest of the course was dormant (being December). You were able to get a good lie in the fairway. There were few people on the course at mid day so pace of play was not a problem.
Not a Gary Player gem, but a pretty difficult course that needs some work.
River Falls used to be one of the top notch courses in the upstate of South Carolina, but sadly it has fallen into the middle third of couses now. Difficult layout, but with some easier holes to make up for the tough ones. Needs attention to the fringe areas, those areas off the fairways often frequented by the average golfer. Also needs some attention to the cart paths. Tree roots make the ride very rough in many areas. Overall, a pleasant experience.
great course
Greens are the best in the upstate. They treated my group very well and with respect.
Loved the greens - bring plenty of balls
Condition of the course was great. The greens are slick but very predictable and not grainy. I've got a 24 handicap and i went through a bunch of balls. So, hit'm straight and stay in the fairway
Think before you hit to keep your score low, course management works really good here.
I play this course about four times a year. Its nice to pay a low fee using Golfnow.com and playing on Black Friday (busy) play only took a little over 4 hrs.
Great all-around course in Spartanburg - Greenville area
My wife and I played Nov. 10th. The course was in great condition, especially for this time of year. The fairways are a bit on the tight side, but not crazy. The course winds through a nice community, so there is OB on many holes, but plenty of rough to work with on wayward drives. Greens are great, challenging - but fair. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. A long distance at time between the green and the next tee - don't plan on walking unless you're a pack mule! This is a great course, we will be back to play for sure!
