River Falls Plantation
About
River Falls Golf Plantation in Duncan is a Gary Player Signature Course. Its location makes it convenient for meeting up with people coming from Asheville, Columbia, Atlanta, or Charlotte. The golf course is also just minutes away from downtown Greenville. The narrow layout will test the accuracy and shot making abilities of even the best golfers. Rolling hills provide a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Water hazards come into play frequently and there are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and fairways. Player crafted a golf course that is both formidable and scenic. The abundance of mature trees helped him achieve this. He carefully wove River Falls Golf Plantation through the mature forests, allowing the trees to surround the holes, giving each a secluded and peaceful feel.

NO personal coolers
I have and always will have a problem with courses that do not let you bring coolers. All I want is to be able to keep my waters cold. Is it not enough that courses charge high rates to play their course. Then they want you to buy their overpriced drinks. We did not see a drink cart till we were on number 9 fairway. Be warned. This course does not even have water fountains. They just want to try to get all the money out of you they can. I knew this before I went, so I froze some bottles of water and took a bag cooler I could hide in my bag till I got off the first tee. This is one of the reasons golf play is going down in this country. Too expensive.
Can't Beat It For the Price
Is River Falls Plantation going to be hosting a U.S. Open anytime soon, no, but for the very affordable rates and course conditions, you can't beat it. I took my father-in-law and brother-in-law out to play on a Saturday afternoon. They are novices at best, but still had a lot of fun on an easy course. I was able to take advantage of some well positioned tee boxes and rather flat greens to score well. Although overall rather easy, still some difficult holes and course knowledge is key. It was my first time playing the course and I could easily take a few strokes off my round next time with what I know now. For the price, would play again in a heartbeat. The only thing I would like to see is the fairways cut down a little more. I hit some really nice tee shots into the middle of the fairways and didn't have the best lie just because they were kind of fluffy.
The greens were in great shape. From the tips the course is very challenging.
Overall, this is one of the best courses in SC for the value. It has a great layout, quick greens, and nice fariways!
This course is a great track to play
I would recommend this course to any type of handicap golfer. The course is in great shape and the greens are perfect for the rates you can't play bad courses for this price.
nice course
well maintained course. Beautiful views. tight with some tough blind shots. fair green speeds and reads, but several were long and narrow or short and wide. would play again, but not a beginner course (as evidenced by the 129 slope
course was in excellent shape. holiday weekend made for slow play but i expected that.
gary player design makes shaping shots on some holes mandatory.
great track
course is in excellent shape.
tight fairways
Even in the fairways the lies are tight. The track is challenging but the fairways doesn't lend itself to a descent lie to hit your shots.
drive it straight
nice tract ..better drive it straight...................................................
Wet but wonderful
Grabbed a last minute deal on GolfNow after a long sustained rain. Course condition was excellent with no large puddling anywhere. Fairways were green and lush and the greens smooth and flat. Other than one, Par 5s were a little short, making getting on in 2 less challenging than usual. They made up for this with some tough par 3s. All in all, we really enjoyed this course and look forward to playing again.
Several holes required course knowledge and unconventional golf shots.
A very challenging track with many awkward golf shots. The terrain has dictated some hole layouts that would require a player to have many rounds to figure out a good strategy. You won't get many straight forward golf shots on your round here. Greens were in good shape but difficult to read. Many elevation changes and creeks make for a very challenging round.
Played front 9
Well organized, were able to get on course at our tee time, course was well maintained and easy to navigate. Will play there again.
Play was slow as course was tightly scheduled and "full." Given the time of year the course was in good shape. Very fast greens, but puttable.
I rate this course slightly above average for layout; certainly does not play long, but accuracy is required.
Average at best
I played hers several times a few years ago and it was a nice course. It could be again with proper maintenance. Not much grass in fairways and greens very bumpy.
Beautiful course, would love to play again in the Spring/Summer
Beautiful and challenging course. I did however play in late Winter so obviously the course was not in pristine condition but it was considerably better than the majority of others in the area given the time of year. The price was a little steep (thank god for the discount) and the staff was super nice. Had a great time and would definitely recommend this course to a friend.
Course was in great shape after all the rain we had recently
The greens were true without many hidden surprises.
First round an adventure, every round thereafter a pleasure.
Considering winter play the course was in excellent condition. Fairways are excellent and greens are even better. Facilities were exceptional with excellent service and food.
There was no real negative to the course. However, you need to play it once before you concern yourself with scoring. There are an inordinate number of holes where you have no idea of the landing area, even if you have the course yardage book. You have to look out where you think the fairway would be and just trust it. If you are capable of just hitting into an abyss without concern you are usually fine as the fairways are very fair, just not visible from the tee boxes.
Also, for a course that is only 6500 yards, it has several holes where a driver is actually required, unlike most of the courses in the area. There are holes that are shorter and they require shot making skills but have fair landing areas. And the approach shots are varied in lengths and shot making requirements.
Once you have played the course you will be astounded at the assortment of shots required and the pleasure you find in accomplishment. Your pleasure will be enhanced by experiencing some the fastest, smoothest greens you have ever played.
Greens are great, good track, friendly staff, great value
I would highly recommend. Pace of play was good. The greens are very good. The course is very fair with a few tight holes. It is challenging from the back tees.
slow play great course
Great course for the money. The only thing is my foursome tracked down several groups that insisted on playing slow with no ranger it took us 2.5 hours to play the back side.
Greens and fairgrounds in excellent condition
Staff was closing course down due to cold front coming to cover greens. and my elderly Dad and I had the entire course to ourselves for the whole day....Priceless experience!!!
One of the better public courses in the upstate / values
I haven't played here in a few years but really enjoyed it. Long hitters will be challenged a few times with risk/reward shots. GolfNow.com got me a great deal on the course, would gladly play there again.
