About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Never disappoints
It’s been over a couple months since I’ve played this track. But being well taken care of Thorntree didn’t disappoint. Greens were very plush and rolling true. If you get a chance go and play! You will thank me later.
Poor value
I paid over $60 for an afternoon round here. Some of the reviews below claim the greens are “near perfect”, and they are good, but they are nothing special and definitely not perfect. Mostly smooth, probably like 9 on the stimpmeter. Layout is mostly really boring, fairways not great, bunkers not great. Pace of play was pretty bad. This would be a great course for half the price I paid. Staff was very friendly, good driving range and putting green, relaxed atmosphere. Just objectively overpriced for the pace of play and the course layout

Pretty fun
Me and my son played today, the greens are unreal perfect. Fairways are tricky, Have to play the course again after learning the shots. One problem no drinking water on the course. Again the greens are perfect, Timarron perfect.

Pace of play
Last time it was some bros on the weekend who made for a 5 hour round. This time is was “ladies day” so 4some of 70year old women. Not a bad course but my lord I have the worst luck at this place.

Tee boxes need some TLC
First time playing here. Par 3s super short. Tee boxes throughout are pretty rough condition. Tree lined; beautiful homes. A few blind shots keeps you on your toes!

Almost a hidden gem!
There is a few quirky holes with blind shots, but most are straight forward. I recommend playing your tee ball to the 150 markers and go from there. Carts have no GPS, so be prepared for that. There wasn’t any beverage carts (possibly due to weekday round) and the water stations had nothing.
Some tee boxes need attention. Greens are some of the best I’ve seen recently in the DFW area.
Relatively short course from the blues, but definitely target golf. Check out the 140 slope rating. I will be back!!!!

Pace of play
Only been playing golf for 2 years but this was the longest round ever. 3 groups at our tee. Waiting for some bro dudes in front of us that played from the tips to finish. . Plenty of cart girls not one Marshall. Course was great but a 5.5 hour round is miserable.

Great Course
Course was in good shape, pace of play wasn't an issue at all on a Monday. Though there was a group of 8 from the men's club in front of us ( one group of 3 and one of 5). Why they let 5 go off togethor is silly. Overall a nice challenging course.
