About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Poor Day on the course
We arrived at our tee time. Only to have a group of three who had been advised to join us at that time. Had to play a grouping of 5. The pace of play was extremely slow. Spent about 10-15 minutes after each hole sitting there waiting to tee off. The course itself was in fair condition. I don’t see myself coming back to play here again.

they need to fix pace of play
played saturday afternoon 3/26/22--round took 5 hrs & 15 minutes!!!. No one was playing slow so its not like there was something a marshall could fix. there's just too many people on the course. course maintenance has taken a serious downturn--fairways & tee boxes in poor shape; bunkers poorly maintained with grass growing in some. at least greens were in great shape.
this is the 2nd time in a row for this pace of play issue for my group--a few weeks ago we bailed out after 13 holes and 3 & 1/2 hours--again not due to slow play--just too many people on the course.
I play this course a lot and consider it my home course, and pace of play has never been a problem till recently. add to that the overall course conditions and I wouldnt recommend playing at this time.

Good course but needs work
Always enjoy the course as it requires the use of all clubs in the bag. The tee boxes need some attention though. It took almost 5 1/2 hours to play a round due to new golfers on the course, martials would be helpful

Not one other golfer out there, buddy an I had a great time. Shooters course, had to reference map several times with blind shots, etc...very windy but fun day altogether. Sand....lots of traps protecting greens. Will go back to see course in Spring/Summer condition.

Pricey Walk through the Trees
The GOOD: Greens were in championship form! If you have time, stop and have lunch or dinner there, you won’t be disappointed. Cash was great! The BAD: Very pricey to walk $50 + if you book on golfnow there’s the $6 booking fee! Huh!! The UGLY: Unfortunately this is still winter golf, everything brown and dormant, way too many bare spots of just dirt just off fairway. No overseeding to help, No water coolers on course, Temp was 78, headscratcher! I’ve the course in better conditions, if you’re looking for better conditions now is not the time.

Terrible
Greens were great but no type of winterizing done, tee boxes basically dirt no marshals on the course, I quit early because you just and wait, we were a 4 some, there 2 two some in front and we had to wait every hole. Practice area was same as tee boxes no overseed of rye or anything else done

Expected more
Slow pace of play, poor lies even in fairway. I expected much, much more. 9 holes took almost 2 1/2 hours

Pricey for conditions
I would return only if it were in the $30-35 range. I paid $65 on a course that is no longer at country club conditions. I get that weekend rates are more but this was not up to a $65 round of golf. After the round , we finished at 5:15 I walked in , the pro shop was closed - felt that was probably a little early, maybe 30 minutes early, and grill didn't have any tea for the road. I feel like the course was decent, but there were multiple instances where putts were thrown off by lack of smooth greens.

The course was in great shape. The greens are the best in DFW

Fun and challenging
Challenging course and the greens are nice. Don’t expect to hit driver on every hole. Nice facilities and friendly staff. Pace of play was good for a busy day

Tee boxes
I had fun playing this course......my only complaint is the tee boxes. They are in need of some attention. I never break tees but I bet I broke 7 or 8 plus you needed a sledge hammer just to put them in the ground. On the other hand the greens were in very good condition. I would recommend to play here just bring enough tees with you.

The course is always in pretty good condition, the layout is more of a challenge than you would think, it's all about where you place the ball with your Tee shots, to whether your next is any good, because of the slopes and lies
