Thorntree Country Club

About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Perfect Greens
The greens were in amazing shape. But the tea boxes were incredibly hard.
The greens are the best part of this course. The fairways are pretty much non existent and the bunkers are horrible.
Nice 1980 design
Typical old design, many fairway and green surfaces are blind. Not my favorite design and most modern courses are not designed in that way. Unfortunately we got two slow balls a head of us, front nine took 3 hours! On ten we managed to pass both so we played back nine in 1 hour!
But really nice condition and nice greens, maybe a bit slow.
Horrible Place
Jimmy is a worthless can't even call him a pro. Management sucks and the course has declined greatly!!! Don't play here.
Horrible Non-Pro
Jimmy is a worthless can't even call him a pro. Management sucks and the course has declined greatly!!! Don't play here.
Horrible Not Pro Jimmy
Jimmy is a worthless can't even call him a pro. Management sucks and the course has declined greatly!!! Don't play here.
Course in great shape. Greens have a little sand but nothing crazy. Wish they had cart person or water jugs out for heat. All around, worth it.
Great course except bunkers
Course was in great shape as far as the fairways and greens. The bunkers leave a lot left to desire with this course. They are hard and unmanaged. This is all this course needs to get 5 star rating .
Seems they've been able to clear all the downed trees from the storms in May. Was in great shape, greens were perfect. Played on a Friday morning, kinda busy but great pace, never had to wait.
Needs work
Overall decent condition, traps are completly useless as they have no sand in them
Average "Public" course
For a part time country club and part time public access course, I expected it to be above average in quality. The staff and amenities were nice. The greens were in very good shape, especially for mid-July in Texas. However, the sand bunkers are in BAD condition. They are obviously not maintained, given the hard sand and weeds growing in many of them. The tee boxes were very hard which made pushing a tee in the ground a challenge. Plus the divots from players teeing off were not filled in or there was no sand made available to do so. Otherwise, the course was enjoyable to play.
Thirsty if not prepared
Course was in good shape and we’ll play again. Played three times this week with relatives visiting. First was hard as we did not bring water and expected the usual water coolers dispersed over the course. Got some cups and ice (free) at turn and survived. No cart service during weekdays but they did have on Sunday. The course also needed water by then. Greens left a bit long and slow, second cut of rough was an Easter egg hunt. Fairways a little hairy during the week but cut for a tournament Sunday.
This course in as bad shape as i’ve seen
sand traps were horrendous. Fairways were thick and if not in the fairway it was almost impossible to find your ball
Have not played here couple years best shape ever greens and fairways very good
What has happened to this place?!
Bunkers were plain awful, mostly packed down wet dirt. No drinking water on the course and no cart girl - it was almost 100 degrees so that was a problem. The staff should have mentioned this, but they didn't. I thought my playing partner was going to have a stroke. Not sure I'll ever go back - it's like management doesn't care about making customers happy any more.
