Thorntree Country Club
About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Average "Public" course
For a part time country club and part time public access course, I expected it to be above average in quality. The staff and amenities were nice. The greens were in very good shape, especially for mid-July in Texas. However, the sand bunkers are in BAD condition. They are obviously not maintained, given the hard sand and weeds growing in many of them. The tee boxes were very hard which made pushing a tee in the ground a challenge. Plus the divots from players teeing off were not filled in or there was no sand made available to do so. Otherwise, the course was enjoyable to play.
Thirsty if not prepared
Course was in good shape and we’ll play again. Played three times this week with relatives visiting. First was hard as we did not bring water and expected the usual water coolers dispersed over the course. Got some cups and ice (free) at turn and survived. No cart service during weekdays but they did have on Sunday. The course also needed water by then. Greens left a bit long and slow, second cut of rough was an Easter egg hunt. Fairways a little hairy during the week but cut for a tournament Sunday.
This course in as bad shape as i’ve seen
sand traps were horrendous. Fairways were thick and if not in the fairway it was almost impossible to find your ball
Have not played here couple years best shape ever greens and fairways very good
What has happened to this place?!
Bunkers were plain awful, mostly packed down wet dirt. No drinking water on the course and no cart girl - it was almost 100 degrees so that was a problem. The staff should have mentioned this, but they didn't. I thought my playing partner was going to have a stroke. Not sure I'll ever go back - it's like management doesn't care about making customers happy any more.
Not kept in good condition
I used to be a member here. I was surprised how really bad the course is. This course is not being taken care of at all and it has great potential.
Worhtless Head Pro Jimmy Krupa
Worst management I have ever seen in Jimmy Krupa the head Non-professional!!! I cancelled my membership in 2023 and he continued to bill me. I have had to complain on him twice now and I can only attribute it to a form of hate I won't put on this site. After proving I cancelled my membership he was told to stop billing me. I just contacted the corporate office today about him again! While having breakfast on the clubhouse patio he texted staff and told them I was an expelled member. He would not come and tell me himself because he knew he was lying like a coward. He has now lied on me to others and I will not stand for this at all! I can only conclude that he did this because he lost after I contacted corporate last time. This guy should not be allowed to manage a Putt putt game. The course is great but he is an embarrassment to the company, the course and its minority members and players!

Not too bad
Decent course. You can tell that this course has the bones of what was an excellent field but maintenance seems to have slipped. It’s definitely a good value for the current pricing though.
Too hot to not have water.
It is too hot to not have water around for players. You can buy some water before your round and once again at the turn. Be sure to bring plenty of water.
Very easy to lose your ball in the rough, grass is too high.
Good value. Good course. Some rough spots.
I Got paired with a couple good golfers and a couple guys apparently just picking up the game. You know where this is heading… so it explains the slow pace of play.
The course has some issues. Tee boxes are pretty worn. The fairways are about 90% in good condition with some bald areas. (Just move your ball). The greens were consistently in good shape.
Folks. This is an old country club that went public and shows its age. But if you want some challenging jokes and can deal with less than perfect… then play this course.
Good course/sandy greens
Greens recently punched but rolled true. Course was in great shape. Only two issues was pace of play and on course hydration. 3 groups of older females had backed up the rest of the course. No Marshall to help with the backup. Skipped 2 holes to get around bc they would not allow anyone to play though. No ball washers or water stations.
Better days
Nice layout dog legs elevation change. Course is in bad condition bunkers hard pan fairways hard like cement. Greens surprising are in great shape.
Good value with TEE-OFF discount. Slow play for a Sunday morning. Still a nice round of golf.
HORRIBLE.
The stupidest course in the area. We played in the evening and they came to get us at 7:26!! Sunset is around 8:30-8:40 and they came and kicked us off with 3 holes to play. Stupid course, STAY AWAY.!!!
Good bang for your buck
I really enjoyed playing this course! Friendly staff, beautiful layout, accessible range and practice area. Only thing I didn’t like was the bunkers, but I assume that was due to bad weather damage. None of them were playable. Other than that, I would come back again to play!
No Marshall
No Marshall on the course. Had four groups on one tee box. Staff in the clubhouse extremely unprofessional. Avoid if you can. A 35 dollar round at BEST.
