Oakcreek Country Club is situated amongst Sedona's red rock mountains, providing unique scenery throughout. Opened over 40 years ago, it is Sedona's first golf course. The course was a collaboration between Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and his son. It is a classic, player-friendly layout that offers plenty of room for error. There are also several opportunities to recover errant shots incorporated into the design. Despite its forgiving nature, the golf course definitely has its challenges. There are tree-lined fairways with bunkers strategically positioned in the landing areas and elevated greens bordered by large, swirling bunkers. Three lakes also come into play on five holes. Oakcreek Country Club requires accuracy as well as length in order to score well. Next to the clubhouse there are extensive practice facilities including a large driving range with target areas, a practice green, putting and chipping greens, and a short game area with a sand bunker.

Unexpected great golf in Sedona

With not a lot of fan fare before I teed it up , the Oak Creek Golf course was a pleasant surprise. Well maintained tees and fairways were joined by manicured greens running at about 12. The course layout was fair but challenging. No hidden shots or gimmicky holes here. Then you throw in the fantastic views of the “Red Rocks” of the Sedona valley and it’s one most enjoyable round of golf. Would definitely recommend to anyone to not miss the opportunity to play this track.

Nice layout - bad customer service

Nice course layout. Fairways and greens in good shape but tee boxes rough and most sand traps hard.

Customer service at most of the club was great, but the starter is a problem.

We started a little early (7:26 am for a 7:32 tee time ) no starter and no one on the first. We had almost finished the first hole and were called back by the starter - so had to start again about 12 mins later - nonsense. Customer service at the rest of the club was great.

Caught behind a fivesome

Course was in pretty good shape. Fairways needed a bit of a cutting, bunkers weren’t great either but I’ve seen worse. The main problem was having the misfortune of being positioned directly behind a fivesome who apparently in the local club game (which in this case they thought it was the US Open). It must have been condoned by the starter I assume since that was how they started the round. Extremely slow as in 5+ hr round. No offer to play through. Groups backing up behind us. Decided I’d had enough after 14 and drove in. Anyhow, course was pretty good and beautiful views. Hope the reader’s will be luckier with their experience.

The greens were slow, shaggy, and bumpy. Putts did not roll true. The grass on the tee boxes was way to high, almost like the rough. Difficult to tee the ball high enough. A number of spots around the course had terrible ground. Muddy at times, hard pan at other times, including bare spots. Difficult to hit a good shot. Disappointed with the overall condition relative to the cost.

This course is definitely one of my favorites in Arizona. It’s always well kept and you can’t beat the scenery. I would recommend this course 100% to anyone who hasn’t tried it, it’s totally worth the experience.
