Union Hills Golf & Country Club
About
The golf course at the Union Hills Country Club is a championship course with a traditional layout. The course has been named one of the Top Ten Private Courses in Arizona. The design features four lakes and two winding creeks that create water hazards that come into play on a few holes. There are also several sand bunkers present. Some of the golf course's greens are elevated and the fairways are average sized in width. The signature hole is the par-4 14th hole, which requires a carry over water. Union Hills Country Club also has a putting green and full driving range for golfers to use.

Quench golfer thirst after golf.
Not sure why, maybe staffing but disappointed the lounge/bar was closed.
If the course is open at lunch until the course closes for the day, the lounge should be open if you expect repeat customers.
Wow! Nice Surprise
For reference, I typically play: WIGWAM, VERRADO, ESTRELLA, & BLACKSTONE COUNTRY CLUB, all are courses that costs $120-$150 this time of year and all courses that are EXCELLENT and very well kept. First, I was very surprised how nice the greens were. In fact, they were better than any of those courses I listed. I was shocked. They were fast and boy will they break on you. You have to have a great touch and finesse on them. The fairways were in good shape too. When I pulled up to the course, it seemed a little cheap. They have abandoned tennis courts, and it just seemed a little run down. Definitely not what I’m used to. But once I started using their facilities, practice greens, chipping area, and driving range, I thought, “ok, it’s fine, it’s not Wigwam, but it’s ok.”
Overlooking the course, it seemed a little run down, off the fairways there was brown and yellow Bermuda Grass (which does that in the winter time), but courses I listed above will plant Rye even off the fairway to make the course look all green, and I did see dirt patches, BUT, once I got out there and played, the fairways were in great shape and off the fairway just adds to the courses personality. In other words, it’s not a big deal that they don’t plant rye off the fairways,
Another thing about this course is the design. For it being less expensive, the design is excellent. Some par threes will really challenge you. The use of water was great. The greens had awesome break to them. The layout is really nice.
The distance was great, but if you’re a scratch golfer, it’s really going to be too short of a course for you.
If you stay in the fairway, and can putt gently, you can very well on this course, but if off the fairway, the trees will cause you a lot of pain.
I highly recommend this course for the price.
In fact, if you’re playing Wigwam Red Course, then you’re sorta waiting money. This is comparable, has better greens, and a better layout/design, for half the price.
PACE OF PLAY WAS A MASSIVE ISSUE. we had a booked time, but no one was booked before or after us, but they had a lot of walk ons, so they threw a bunch of people out before us and it caused a massive backup for us, we waited in every hole.
So that is something I will be looking at again. If I play it two more times and the pace of play is like that again, I will not recommend this course. That’s just a management and starter issue. To me, remember your booked appointments and don’t hinder them. So I forgive them this time, but I’ll check for that to see if it’s a pattern.
Great shape
The course was in great shape. Greens were perfect. The course is pretty long, so it can be challenging if you're not long off the tee.
Value is mediocre
I would never pay more than $50 to play this course again. The driving range was exploding sand and they also don’t let you use a driver, the pace of play was horrendous with no one monitoring, if you’re not on the fairway you’re on concrete-like dirt, person doing pin placements must get amnesia after every green because 5 holes in a row had back pin placements - one of which was not in regulation because it was a foot from the edge of the green, tee boxes were pretty beat up and 80% of them weren’t level, and one par 3 tee box on the front is artificial grass for some stupid reason. The only positives is that the carts have GPS, the staff is friendly, and the fairways were luscious. But the few positives aren’t worth more than $50 if that.
Great Value
The course was in great shape. The range was short and no drivers which was the only bad thing.
Great golf day
Weather was perfect. Started on time. Played in 4 hours. Good company.
Course conditions were well above past times we golfed here.
Tee boxes, fairways and greens were above normal.
Carts with GPS are welcomed. GPS restrictions are very tight.
Golf on Short Notice
My Buddy and I wanted a last minute T. Union Hills had an opening and the price was right for a Friday afternoon. I would play it again. Nice Facilities, good staff, and moderate layout!
Slow. Ranger does nothing
My group hasn't play Union Hills in a while so we decided to give it a try. Big mistake. By the SECOND hole we were already backed up. Two groups waiting on the tee. From there on out we varied between two to three groups on the tee. Ranger did nothing to keep pace. He was only concerned about when we turned our carts in at the end of the day. It took us nearly 3 hours for the front 9. We did not get to finish our round as the sun set. I can see that the course is trying to make some improvements. They are taking out the old tennis courts. If you want to make some REAL improvements, then keep up the pace of play. This course is not that difficult. It should not take longer than 4 hours to play. We will not be back.
