Tanna Farms Golf Club
About
Tanna Farms Golf Club in Geneva offers some of the best golf that the Fox Valley has to offer. The layout meanders across prairies covered with wildflowers and weaves through lush wetlands. The course begins with the stunning signature hole. The par-3 opener has an island green that sets the scene for this thrilling and memorable round. Although it's a seemingly short course at 6,510 yards from the back tees, what it lacks in length it makes up for with plenty of other challenges. Besides the first hole, there are a few other tough par 3s, including one with a postage-stamp sized green. There are some daunting par 5s as well. Tanna Farms Golf Club is not a lengthy course but the layout is generously spaced to offer breathing room between the holes and the undulating slopes and subtle elevation changes make it pay much longer.

Nice Windy Springtime Day
Tanna Farms was in decent shape and surprisingly dry given all the recent rains. A short sporty front nine is followed by a much longer back nine containing 3 par 5's. When the wind is howling from the south it's a long long way into the clubhouse. See my review of 8/22/16 for hints and other comments. Worth a play at least once a year.....$30 - $35 course at most. $5 for a can of Goose Island IPA is a bit much.....folks in the clubhouse and the cart girl were very very nice. While they have no room to put in a warm up range (Mill Creek range is nearby) if there's one suggestion to make - Tanna Farms should seriously consider installing a representative practice putting green somewhere.....the postage stamp practice green next to the clubhouse with sticks to aim at (no actual holes) isn't very friendly or of much use given the longest putt you can hit is maybe 30 feet at most. It's likely pretty off putting to first timers who not only are faced with an island green par 3 1st hole that has a large green - so you have no way to even get a feel for any longer putts which you'll likely face if not on the 1st green....later in the round.
great long course
Love this course. If you need a long course to challenge your game. Here it is. With 4 sets of tee boxes black playing over 6500yds.
Each hole has its challenges, tight fairways, water and natural hazards.
Errant golfers should play it short as not to kill any of the residents that this course wraps around.
Oh and don't be too intimadated by the first hole par 3 island green. Lol
Nice Course but not GolfNow Friendly
The course is great. It was rough this time, but it's mid-February . I have played it mid summer and it's always in good condition. There's a nice mix of holes.
Cold Day, but fast pace of play
I played 16 holes in 1 hour and 43 minutes, as temperature was 36 degrees.
Great Course
We had a great time at Tanna Farms. Great customer service from the Pro Shop, cart girl and restaurant after our round. We loved the course (although we lost a few balls in the high "weeds" and wet lands. Wasn't ready for the Par 3 Island Green on the 1st hole . . . would have loved to see it later in the course.
We will be back!!!
Thanks for coming out and playing! We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the course and we appreciate the positive feedback! We look forward to seeing you back at Tanna Farms soon!
Good course nice round
Very interesting lay-out. Staff was very friendly, let us go out in advance of tee time since course was not crowded. Will certainly be back, I think I could score better with some advance knowledge of course(you cannot always hit driver for example). Great pace, I love it when people put the clubs away for October. Played 18 in three hours flat.
Thanks for coming out and playing! Glad to see you had an enjoyable experience at Tanna Farms. We hope to have you back out on the course soon!
Very playable course
First time playing this course. Conditions were very good, greens were on faster side. Nice mix of shorter, strategic holes and long par 5's. Nice mix of par 3's. We played 18 in just over 3 hours on an overcast day, with few people playing.
Course runs through housing so the routing is a bit odd at times. Couple of really long walks between holes.
Nice bar for after round drink
Thank you for coming out and playing and for stopping by Boonie's after your round. Glad to see that you had a great overall experience at Tanna Farms. We hope to have you back soon!
Different
6 par 3 holes and 5 par 5's - a few of the par 5's long and tough. Nice layout in excellent shape. Only criticism I could find is that there is no practice facility
Thank you for coming out and playing with us! The par 5's are pretty tough, but we are glad to see you enjoyed the course. Please come back and see us soon!
Good time
Very good . Was wet because it rained but good experience.
We hope the rain did not ruin your round! Thank you for the 4 stars and hope you will be back to see us in the future!
Challenge
Nice course. Front kinda easy, back very challenging. I'll play here again.
Thank you for the review! The back 9 can certainly be challenging, but we are glad that you enjoyed playing them. We look forward to having you back out on the course soon!
Very challenging target golf.
Other than being a little soggy from the recent rains. The course was very good condition.
Thank you for the 5 Stars! Hope to have you back out when the weather is a bit better!
Fun day
The course was a bit sloppy. Greens and fairways were beat up a bit. Pace was great until a group spent 20+ minutes on the last 4 holes. Very friendly employees. Overall it's a great place to play
Glad to see you had a fun day while playing our course! We hope to have you back out soon!
Pump the water out the sand traps please!!
Tanna Farms is a decently maintained track that suffers from a lack of flow to the course with a short par 34 front. With no driving range to warm up (Mill Creek is nearby) the course begins with an island green par 3 test which virtually guarantees to wreck a scorecard immediately if you don't hit a quality iron from the get go. Driving distance between several of the greens to next tee gets old. If you're an average player do yourself a big favor and play the white tees at this course (5437/119 slope). If you don't from the blue tees (6033/126 slope) you'll be challenged with several very difficult driving holes requiring at least a 175 plus plus carry to the fairway....and two extremely brawny back nine par 5's of over 570 yards each.....back nine plays almost 3400 yards, par 37. Your driver better be on from the blues otherwise you're in for a very long day. Several approach shots to greens are uphill (it doesn't look like it) and taking an extra club and going over the green is normally far better than short of the putting surfaces. 3.5 stars.....the sand traps were terrible and our group lost a few balls in the temporary ponds in the sand traps.....otherwise in decent shape.
Thank you for the review and for leaving lots of great tips for future golfers! We hope to see you back out on the greens soon!
Tough Back 9
Played on a Monday and the course was in great condition after weekend play. I love the layout, and the back 9 offers challenging golf. Played the front in 1.5 hours with a nice pace. The back played in 3 hours due to a slow threesome. Need a ranger to speed pace of play. I love the course.
Thank you for coming out and playing with us! Happy to hear that you loved the layout, but we do apologize for the slow pace of play.
Pace was awful
I know you can't expect much on a Sunday, but we teed off around 930, played the front in 2 hours, and then participated in a death march of over 3 hours on the back nine. There were 3 groups at the tee on every hole and it was the slowest 9 I've ever had. During this whole time, not once did a ranger come around and try to mitigate the situation. Staff didn't say much of anything before or after the round, not very welcoming or friendly, but not unfriendly. I enjoyed the course for the most part, it is a fun, yet challenging layout; however, I could not enjoy the back nine.
We apologize for the slow pace of play on the back 9. Please feel free to call the club house if there ever happens again, and we will immediately get a ranger out! We hope you will give us another chance in the future!
Interesting course
The front 9 and back 9 are completly different. The front 9 is interesting with a lot of par 3s that have many water hazards. The back is much longer, and still lots of hazards. You have to pay attention to what you are doing at this course or you can get into trouble. The only negative is that you never go back to the clubhouse, and you dirve forever.
Thank you for the 4 Stars. The course has a lot of interesting holes, but that is what makes it so fun to play! Hope you will come back out soon and see us again!
Interesting layout, poor condition
Played TF for the 1st time after finding a good rate on Golfnow, glad we got it cheap. My biggest complaint is the condition of the course, especially the traps. They were unplayable. Most were full of water with very little sand in them. This seems to be a trait with Golfvisions managed courses as Nettle Creek traps are brutal also. The fairways were ok at best and the greens were pretty beat up. This is somewhat understandable in the dog days of Summer, but I've played on much better greens that have been subjected to the same typical Illinois summer weather. The odd layout of Tanna has been well covered on this site so I won't repeat it. There are some really cool holes at Tanna and if it was properly cared for it would be a fun place to play a few times per season. No driving range and a tiny putting area don't serve golfers well either. Staff was friendly and beverage cart came around frequently. No issues with pace of play, a typical 4 hour round.
We are currently working on improving the conditions of the course. Glad to see that our staff was friendly and the pace of play was up to par. We hope you will give us another shot in the future.
Thanks for coming out and playing during the cold weather! We appreciate it! Hope to see you back out on the greens once the snow melts!
