Course in Great shape for time of year
Played The River on New Years Day to bring in the New Year. Course was not crowded, pace of play was good. Staff brought a cart to my car when I pulled in. Guy in the Pro shop was friendly. Course is in great shape for this time of year. I will say that the greens are super fast, but all in all a great round. I have played here several times and will be back for more.
Great fun at great venue
I played The River Course on an outing of 20 guys. When you drive into the parking lot you immediately realize the beauty surrounding you. The clubhouse is huge and stately. But the course is the real show stopper. The greens are fast but true. Everywhere you look is water. It is in your site, but not so much that it affects the way you play. The fairways were great for any time, but super for mid-October. Everyone in my group really loved the layout and the atmosphere at the club. The biggest question I hear, is when are we going back. Cant; wait myself.
The greens were in great shape - rolled true, and were really fast. Fairways and tee boxes were also in really good condition. They were working on repairing a few green-side bunkers, but the others were all difficult but in good condition.
Chris, in the pro shop, was great to work with as well!
Good Course
3rd time playing the River. Course is in great shape. Greens are fast. Price is a little high compared to some of the other courses around, but not a show stopper. Good course in our rotation.
The River Golf Club in N. Augusta – A Memorable Golf Experience
Set along the banks of the Savannah River, The River Golf Club in North Augusta, SC is a semi-private facility that opened for play in 1998. The facility is conveniently located across from downtown Augusta, GA, just across the Savannah River. Shortly after the course opened, Golf Digest named it a top five new course nationally. Ever since that time, The River Golf Club has continued to enhance its reputation with improvements to the club. In 2002 they hosted a US Open qualifier and were the host site of the mini tour championship in 1999 and 2000.
As you make your way around the course, you’ll see the evidence that the property was once an old rail yard as tracks and trestles dot the landscape. The layout winds its way around several lakes with plenty of wetlands, water hazards and, of course, gators. The River Golf Club was designed by internationally acclaimed golf course architect Jim Fazio and features lush fairways, great bunkering and terrific Mini-Verde Ultradwarf Bermuda greens with plenty of subtle slopes and lots of undulations. They’re as fast as any greens you’ll find in the area.
The River Club has several holes that you’ll remember for a while. Number 6 is an interesting hole. From the Blue tees, the hole plays 357 yards. Your tee shot is a short carry over water, and is best played up the right side, avoiding the fairway bunker and trees on the left. A couple of bunkers guard the front side of the green, so you’ll need to carry your approach shot on to it. The green is two-tiered so check your distance and make sure you’re on the right level.
With a good tee shot, Number nine is a reachable par 5. At 464 yards from the Blue tees, the best line off the tee is down the left side, that will take the water on the right side out of play; at least for now. A good drive will leave a long iron or hybrid into the green. Miss the green to the right and you’ll most likely find the water; there’s room left if you want to bail out. Sand also guards the front of the green on both sides. Birdies – or better – are within reach!
At 324 yards from the Blue tees, Number 16 is a short par 4. There’s water down the right side and you’ll have to cross it twice on your way to the green. The hole is best played with less than driver off the tee, which sets up a short pitch shot into a large green set at an angle. It will take two well played shots to have a chance at par or better. The railroad trestle on the right side adds a nice touch.
Number 17 is an intimidating par 3 with water all around the green. The hole plays 142 yards from the Blue tees, slightly downhill to an island green that is set at an angle. There’s also a bunker middle right that catches its fair share of balls. Par is a good score here.
After your round, be sure to stop by The River Golf Club’s restaurant located inside the clubhouse. Sit back and reminisce with your playing partners about shots that were and shots that could have been. You’ll find a good selection of domestic and imported beers and adult beverages as well as a wide selection of clubhouse food: salads, sandwiches, burgers and wraps. They also make a great Monte Cristo; turkey, ham and Swiss cheese on white bread, that’s dipped in batter and grilled to a golden brown and then dusted with powdered sugar and served with raspberry preserves. It’s absolutely delicious.
In addition to a great golf course and full-service restaurant, The River Golf Club also offers accommodations that are second to none. Accommodations at The River Golf Club include three cottages, Cypress, Palmetto and Sweetbay. Cypress and Palmetto have four bedrooms each, with two full beds and a private bathroom and shower in each room. Sweetbay has eight bedrooms, each with one king size bed, a private bathroom and shower. Wireless high speed Internet is available in all cottages along with televisions in each bedroom and the living room and full kitchens. There’s also a washer and dryer in each unit in case you packed too light. It’s a short walk to the course, clubhouse and practice facility and the deck and back porch overlook the lake and the eighteenth hole.
As a guest at The River Golf Club cottages, you’ll be treated like a member with preferred tee times and complimentary range balls as well as member privileges such as free bottled water and towels and merchandise discounts. The cottages can be booked up to two years in advance, with priority given to returning guests.
The River Golf Club offers several membership plans designed to meet the needs of anyone. Junior, Senior, Individual, Family, Out-of-Town and National plans are available. Each membership offers unlimited greens fees, priority tee times, practice range privileges, and complimentary handicap services as well as many other benefits. There are also no minimums or assessments.
During Masters week, the River Golf Club is a favorite and hosts guests from all corners of the world. They consistently provide outstanding course conditions and service. One of the most appreciated aspects of The River Golf Club is the pace of play. By scheduling only an appropriate amount of play during this time, they are able to ensure a proper spacing on the course. Your Masters package at the River Golf Club includes green fees, carts, taxes, range balls, tee packages, course yardage book, beverage cart service, breakfast and lunch.
The River Golf Club is the perfect place to host a golf event, corporate outing or banquet. Large outings are usually held on Mondays so that the course will remain open for our members. They also offer banquet packages meeting room rentals, and in-house catering. They also have an upstairs room that is a great spot for business meetings; followed by a round of golf!
Whether you’re looking to warm up before your round or spend some quality time on the practice range, The River Golf Club has some pretty impressive practice facilities. They offer a full-length driving range where you can hit every club in the bag. You can practice your short game on the chipping green and putt to your heart’s content on one of two practice putting greens.
It seems that a lot of golf courses have given up on trying to compete with the big box retail stores when it comes to golf apparel. But the River Golf Club wants to help you look your best when you step to the first tee. Their pro shop offers golf apparel from classic apparel companies such as FootJoy, Cutter and Buck and Adidas, as well as newer companies like Under Armour and Bald Head Blues, and many more.
The River Golf Club combines a spectacular layout with a fun and fantastic setting to create a golf facility that is friendly and enjoyable. With five sets of tees, the course is playable for golfers of all abilities and was designed with golfers in mind. When combines with their cottages, The River Golf Club is a "hidden gem" as far as golf travel packages go and could be the perfect location for either a family stay or corporate retreat. Great Course, awesome scenery
Second time playing this course and I really enjoyed it. Course is open, fairways are nicely groomed and greens were a little slow. Lots of water on this course. Will definitely be playing here again.
Great layout but still dormant
Was very wet after the huge rainfall day before. Greens rolled true and quick. Would like to see in a few weeks.
Masters Special
Played day before attending Masters, so had to pay higher price for playing a local course, which I understand but fee was a bit higher than the experience warranted. Paid $175 per head, which did include lunch. Course in Ok shape, not spectacular. We often forget there is a lot of dormant grass this time of year, which to Northerners looks like dead grass. Not a lot of memorable holes. Staff was accommodating insofar as they let us go off earlier than planned so we could get ahead of some groups getting ready to tee off. So we did play fairly quickly. Not a negative experience, and the practice area was a solid one, but I just felt a bit taken advantage of with the price when all was said and done.
Memorable Layout
We stay at the cottages, and have played here for many years. The course is always in the best condition, for winter, than any course in the area except the obvious one. They overseed the tees, greens and fairways so the playing surfaces are exceptional, and the greens are as fast as any around.
The course is mostly flat with many elevated greens. The layout winds around a central lake, with plenty of gators, but even away from the lake water and wetlands lurk. The property was an old rail yard, and tracks and trestles dot the area.
The greens are some of the toughest to putt, hard to read, large fast with many undulations, avoid 3 putts and you are having a good day.
The cottages are a great way to stay and play, and the staff will set up tee times at other area courses and include in your package.
Best in CSRA
The River Club never disappoints. This course is in excellent condition year round. Staff were very helpful and make your visit easy, on top of that course is great value for money. Overall a great experience each time I visit.
will play again
I take a semi annual vacation to the area to play with a seniors group nearby and on the off day I played this course. The fairways were scalped for over seeding and some spots were still brown on the back 9. the front was very nice. Am planning to go back next Feb and will play on the off day.
Fun and challenging course in great condition
Great golf course in very good condition (the front nine fairways were shaved down in preparation for over-seeding and getting ready for the winter). I have played the course before and the course is always in great condition.
- The bermuda grass greens are in fantastic condition. They are smooth, fast, roll true and have very few ball marks. There are lots of undulations and subtle slopes on the greens which make them challenging.
- The rough is thick and lush and challenging to escape due to the thickness great condition of the rough
- You will not regret playing The River golf course. It is a great track in great condition.
Great shape for Masters week
Course is in excellent condition. Fully green, excellent fairways and greens. Friendly staff and nice pace of play. Played a 4 hour 10 min round on Saturday morning with a packed course.
Fast Greens
I have lived in the area for two years. This course is the best maintained; of all the courses I have played. Greens were faster than I remembered; from the first time I played here. Staff was very courteous and accommodating. No problems.
Perfect
Me and my son played here Saturday and the course was amazing. From tee to green the conditions were great, the greens were absolutely perfect and fast The carts have GPS which is a big help. And it only took us 3:15.to play 18 holes.we will definitely be going back as soon as possible.
Excellent course. Rude staff.
Wonderful golf course in immaculate condition. Staff needs customer service training. Gentleman at counter in the clubhouse was downright belligerent. Actually tracked us down on the course in the midst of our round to scold one of us for making a mistake in booking a tee time online. Woman at the snack bar appeared to really hate her job......no smiles, no "thank you" from anyone. If I'm dropping that kind of money to play a game I want it to be fun...at least pleasant. I won't go out of my way to play there again any time soon.

So the counter guy comments on my review stating that he is "as nice as he can be" to everyone......and that my statement is false? I think you just proved it to be true! Oh, and I forgot to mention the snarky remark made upon our arrival (we arrived 10 mins ahead of our scheduled tee time, having driven through a detour and a crowded fall festival in North Augusta to get to the course); "you have a flat tire or something?" Furthermore, as previously stated, I didn't make the tee time...another of the guys in our group did. You could have waited until we made the turn or finished our round to chastise us for the error. And when you did approach us, it was with a poor attitude. "i'm just telling you"------basically scolding us for the a mistake. ?maybe you are better suited for picking the range.

Sir, I kindly let you know that you did make a mistake booking your tee time. I did this as a service so you did not make the same mistake in booking again. I am always as nice as I can be to all players so your comment is false. Thanks
Play The River Club
Definitely a 5 star course greens, fairway, tough, bunkers all in great condition. Lots of challenges no matter which tee box you choose.
Fun to play.
Really enjoyed our day at this course. The greens were fast and the fairways and bunkers were well kept. Would definitely play it again!
Excellent Golf Course
First time to play at this semi-private course and discovered the excellent design of the course. This is one of my favorite golf courses and definitely I would find opportunities to return to this beautiful courses. The bunkers are plentiful in the front 9 holes and water hazards in the back 9 holes making this course challenging yet interesting.
One of my favorites
Great course with excellent greens and fairways.
Not a lot of memorable holes?
How about 6 with the two tiered green, or 9 a short par 5 with a killer green, or 12, 15, 16 and 17, let alone the killer 18th
I agree, Masters week is ridiculous,, We stayed there and played 5 days for $600
