Heritage Oaks Golf Course

About
Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Heritage Oaks Golf Course sprawls across a diverse terrain that provides the course with plenty of variety. The par-70 layout has both links-style holes and more traditional, tree-lined holes. The front nine is more player friendly. There are some good opportunities to build up your score before facing the tougher back nine. It's a tighter layout with more trees, demanding accuracy and careful course management. A stream meanders through the golf course, connecting to the ponds that also come into play, especially on the back nine. There are also several strategically placed bunkers that lurk along the greensides. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's player friendly enough for beginners to approach with confidence. Four sets of tees make Heritage Oaks G.C. accessible to players of all skill levels.

Back again
I have played this course numerous times. I enjoy playing it when I get the opportunity. It’s by far the best maintained course in the area. Looking forward to playing it again sooner.
Still the Best Muni in the Valley
Heritage Oaks provides an interesting, walkable, scorable design at a great price with a friendly staff and great conditions. So basically, all you could ask from a municipal golf course.
With the summer heat and dry conditions, the course is currently playing firmer and faster than I've ever seen (in season). The slight browning out in some spots may not look the most appealing but it takes away nothing from the playability and in fact enhances it, giving you Bryson-like drives on some of the holes and challenging greens.
The variety of holes here always makes for a thorough round of golf, using all the clubs in your bag and skills on your person.
It's always a pleasure to play here and I can't wait to come back again!
Getting better
Heritage Oaks just keeps getting better...my only complaint is that the greens are much slower, though in great shape, than I am used to playing.
Excellent Course
Course is in excellent condition, both fairways and greens. Rough next to fairways is grass cut too tall and makes finding your ball a challenge. Layout is good and you can score if you keep it in the fairway.
Excellent course!
The course is relatively small, but fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Also each hole presents its unique challenge. It’s a course that requires you to use all the clubs in your bag.
Slow play
slow play on a Friday afternoon equaled 5 hour round but we quit after 15 holes , no Marshall on the course. Beautiful day, great layout for the course. Stuck behind four foursomes, waited on every shot.
Very well maintain
Fairways and greens in good condition, some holes a little wet after Tuesday rain
I wish we had a course like this!
Three of us took a 4 day golf vacation around Harrisonburg. On the last day we played at Heritage Oaks Golf club. Wow! What a great play. From tee box to green the course was in perfect condition. As playing for the first time, the layout was a bit confusing; one or two more directional signs would have helped. When we are in the area again, this course will be on our list to play!
Good course at a good price
The course was in very good condition. The rough was deep near the greens which made it challenging if you didn't hit the greens.
One issue was it was 90 F and many water stations were empty. There is a danger of heat stroke so I would have like to have seen better attention to this.
Great course. Mix of challenging holes. Well kept. Would recommend.
Prime Conditions Make This The Best Time To Play
I play this course a few times a year; it used to be my home course before I moved away. The layout remains solid for a muni course and the more you play it, the more you appreciate its design. Conditions are generally pretty consistent here and despite a very hot and dry summer in the Valley so far, the course maintenance team has done a great job keeping the course very playable with few signs of heat stress. The course can get busy but it’s not too expensive either (especially if you walk or get a GolfNow Hot Deals tee time), making this course a good value.
Heritage Oaks remains the best public course in the Harrisonburg area and I always recommend a visit; and if you live here, a membership.
Excellent Course
Fun, challenging course. The staff really take care of the grounds, best I've seen in a long time. Friendly staff and nice to see them assisting groups regularly during the round. Several deer ran across the course (wow) and you can tell they are used to golfers. Overall pretty enjoyable experience.
Local favorite
Great course. Course conditions were nice. Pace of play was slow with walkers taking their time.
Well groomed course.
Heritage Golf course is a very well groomed pretty course. Definitely a golf stop for anyone in Harrisonburg, VA. The staff if very friendly and welcoming.
Amazing Value!!!
Visiting from Florida, saw this course as the top rated around the Charlottesville area where I’m staying. Amazing course. So amazing that I booked another tee time there the next day. Cheap tee time through GolfNow. Worth every penny. Very well manicured and a variety of types of holes. Didn’t see any poorly kept areas other than what they already have sectioned off and currently working on. Highly recommend this course if your looking for value, well kept, and only an hour outside of Charlottesville. Only downside was no beer cart or having the bar open during play. Vending machines available.
You will enjoy!
Hard to believe that this is a public course. Staff really cares well for it's condition! Very enjoyable round.
