Golfer Reviews
Good pace of play during a holiday
The pro-shop was extremely nice. My son and I showed up with a GolfNow booking, but the staff gave us the birthday free round, and the junior rate, for the total of $44, riding!
The fairway has patchy spots due to the draught condition, so we had to move the balls a few times. No big deal.
When the pro-shop paired us with a walker and a lady visitor from Europe who has never played this course before (and not a very good player - can't really get the ball off the red tees consistently), we thought this would be a long day. Surprisingly there weren't a lot of people on the course, considering this was the Labor Day, other than the group behind us passed us on hole #3. The course is fairly short, off the white tees, only 6000 yards, so that helped as well. We managed to finish the round in 4 hours and 45 minutes.
Slow
Greens in good shape but the pace of play was extremely slow especially for a Monday.
Good but not great
Good course, good layout and greens were a little firm but rolled fast and true for the most part. Like most muni courses, golfers think fixing ball marks is optional which is too bad. Also had to deal with occasional cyclists riding throughout the course - really? Back 9 was particularly ragged with lots of bare areas, some on fairways. No fun hitting off of dirt. But all in all, good but not great. I paid $59 with cart and although that's competitive for the area, I'm not in a hurry to go back or pay that again.
Good day for Golf
I had played Shoreline some time ago and remember the duck and goose droppings all over the place. It seems like they this issue under control now. Given the current water situation the grass over all was in good condition. They have also found a good balance in speeding up slow play. We started slow, but then moved along at a good rate. finished the round in 4 hours 10 minutes and had a great time.
A day in the wind
If you want to play in the afternoon wind, this is the place to play.
Wide Fairways
I don't have anything that others haven't already said. Nice view of the Bay. Lots of critters on the course, lots of burrows. Didn't lose any balls in the squirrel holes but put a couple in the water. Greens didn't break much. The fairways are very wide so a missed drive doesn't ruin your chance of scoring.
Borrowing owls
Greens were OK, but the fairways are a mess. Rangers did nothing to improve pace of play (5 hours on a Thursday at noon) even though group ahead of us had a hole and a half open in front of them. I loved the notice in each cart stating that there are holes from borrowing owls on the course (a lot of holes), and if you disturb them you are subject to up to 3 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
Fun Course, But Here are Some Notes
The course is fun and a little more challenging than I remembered from 5-10 years prior. But it was a blast. The course has nicer grass than a lot of California courses right now, but doesn't charge the hefty price tag of some of the "elite" courses.
Beaches had soft sand, a hard find around here. :)
Kinda a bummer that the restaurant doesn't open or serve beers till after 9am, but once they do, the prices are far better than any other golf course I've been to in a while. Just make sure to grab then around the turn and you'll be set for the back nine.
Nice course, good view
nice course near the shore with good views. fairly busy for a Friday morning but pace is OK. Fairways are interesting and some greens are hidden behind small hills.
very enjoyable
I thought this course was pretty good, not an incredible course but pretty good. I will definitely be coming back here soon. The course was in good shape and was pretty forgiving on some holes, even if you hit it into another fairway it was possible to get on to the green. The bunkers and traps are located well and make you have to hit your shots. The par 3's offer birdie chances for anyone who can hit the green, the par 4's and 5's require a good drive.
Nice course
Nice and yet challenging, walkable. Has mosquito. Bring repellent and have fun!
Slow, slow, slow
I made it through 5 holes in 1.75 hours with a wait on the 6th tee....I was outta there. No evidence of anyone encouraging a reasonable pace of play.
I've always enjoyed the course and challenge in the wind by the Bay, but this was the worst I've seen. At least the greens were good for a change, as they have been variable in condition in my experience. At that pace, however, or the expectation of 5.5 hours rounds, I won't make an effort to play there any time soon.
Beware of the 5:30am Tee Time
Reserved the 5:30am tee time in the hope that we could swing 18 holes in before work. Front nine was great, we were at the turn in well under 2 hours. And then we hit a wall. They had started people on the back 9. They were all walking, too.
Pace of play dropped like a stone, and we ended up leaving before we could finish the round. Very disappointing.
Average course.
Shoreline is an average course. Average maintenance. Staff is very friendly. Food is average.
Jurassic Park
I usually go there at least once a month, so I knew that there's lots of gooses. But, yesterday, it was lika Jurassic Park at 10th & 13& 18 holes. Especially, at the 10th hole, there were over 200 gooses. on the middle of fairway, so I just hit left side of fairway not to hit them. If you hit the middle of fairway, I'm sure you would feel sorry for nature.
Best value for money
Its a decent price for a Friday afternoon. The pairing was good. the greens are good and all in all it is a great course.
Perfect Sat
6:00 t time only walkers before us moving out and continued great pace. Never had any one behind us . 4 hr round. Greens almost perfect maybe need to roll them. Hadn't played in here 9 yrs. I will make a point to return.
Course is in good Shape
Given the drought, the course is in good condition. Greens were plugged a short time ago and still a little bit bumpy & sandy.
Good way to spend an afternoon
If you play 18, you will spend the entire afternoon there. Thursday 1pm tee time resulted in a 4 hour round. Really seems to get stacked up. This might have to do with the amount of walkers vs getting a cart. I will be walking next time rather than getting a cart.
It's on the bay so it's going to be windy but it's not horrible and you do get a chance to get the wind from all sides at some point, so it evens out.
Course is in pretty good shape considering the drought. Greens and tee boxes are in pretty darn good shape.
Will definitely play there again (it's close and price is relatively good) but will walk next time.
