Course has been well maintained, especially greens.
I wish you could get rid of all the birds droppings and control the
birds population.Other than this, this course is really fun to play.
Much more enjoyable than an afternoon in the office :)
Pro shop Staff very courteous, professional and helpful. Avian life on the course makes the round less enjoyable than it would otherwise be. As a single, was paired with three very nice people who play the course frequently -- glad they were gracious -- no on-course visual aids makes it difficult to envision some of the holes from the tee.
Great for the price!
The fairways and greens were in very good condition. Cart paths a little rough but overall I liked it.
Good average course
Tee boxes need rework. Some fairways had lots of bare spots. Greens were in good shape.
Lots of slow play considering several marshall.
Considering several marshalls around, it looks like they are more concern on their visibility, rather than ensuring smooth fairway traffic. Since majority of players were walking, using cart is useless with this kind of course condition, even on weekdays (I played Monday). At any rate, I will still recommend this to friends who have the luxury of time to spend, with limited budget to play.
Shoreline
Overall good condition, goose drop-ins is still a problem, but not as bad as previous years. Greens were in OK condition.
Great value for beginners and intermediate golfers
Shoreline is one of the better muni in the Bay Area. You can usually play for ~$30 walking. It is a very pleasant course to walk. The difficulty of the course are well suited to beginners and intermediate players. Even scratch players would find it challenging if play from black on a windy day. Three par 3s are all over water and difficult. My favorite hole is hole 9 which is a great risk/reward hole. You can cut the corner to try to get two on for a eagle. The condition of the course is not very good though. A lot of bare spots on the fairway. Although the greens are in pretty good shape.
Greens where much better and still as fast since the last time I played the course. Fairways need work, still pleaged with bird dropings!
There has been a significant improvement in the greens. They where smooth and true with no significant iperfections that where on most every green the last time I played the course, still as fast as I remember. There is work to do on the fairways, they are still pleaged by bird dropings, ground in repair and the squirrel population has grown, but no lost balls down squirrel holes!
Condition become better than before
Fairway and green condition is much better than before. Range is also good, we can hit from grass.
Some fairways need attention.
Fairways need attention and some of the bunkers need better sand, most the bunkers have been re-sanded.
We skipped hole 11 due to a very slow foursome in front of us.
Not bad for the money
The course has some water saturated areas just off the fairway. They are unplayable unless you don't mind standing in the water up to your ankles. I only noticed them because I was in them on hole # 1 just five feet to the right of the fairway and on 13 just in front of the trap on the right. The sprinklers came on and nailed me as I was waiting to hit my shot on #9. I talked to the maintanence guy who was sitting close by and he didn't even notice. He was sorry and thanked me for bringing it to his attention.
Very slow round and not worth the money.
There is no Marshall to help speed up play or at least tell the groups to pick up the pace. It's a nice place to play but not worth the price if it takes 5 plus hours to play and you're constantly waiting more than 15 minutes to tee off.
Good condition and greens fairly true
Shoreline is an excellent course to challenge any level...beware of wind on a few holes.
Good layout, good greens, some fairways & bunkers need work!
I like the general layout of Shoreline. It's a muni course with a more interesting layout than most munis. The tee boxes and greens were in good shape, but some of the fairways were torn up in places, and some of the bunkers need sand. The staff was friendly and it was a generally pleasant experience.
Tough only because of the high wind
Great location, nice views, some holes have bad smell from the bay, easy course otherwise
Fun, But Needs Some Work
I've played 100+ rounds at Shoreline, but due to injury this is the first time I've been there in ~ 2 years. Last year they got a new head groundkeeper who has really improved the greens and the teeing grounds. The greens are firmer, faster and roll much more smoothly than I remember them and the tee boxes are finally level. Most of the fairways are in good condition, but several (9, 10, 15 especially) were damaged by saltwater intrusion and a sinkhole last year and are still recovering. However, the main condition issue is the bunkers; the sand is hard, crusty and there was not enough of it in several bunkers. Also, it looked like they were not groomed or even raked by the grounds crew before play.
I like the layout a lot, the course has a nice variety of holes, a lot of risk/reward options and can be relatively easy or very difficult, depending on which tees you play. How strong and from which direction the wind is blowing can also make it a very different course. Fixing the problems I outlined would make this a 4 star course, IMO.
Course is in bad shape.
The fairways and greens were both in pretty bad shape. Too bad because it's in a good location and you can get decent prices if you can play flexible hours. Got a round for a good price, but still wasn't worth it. Would rather play Palo Alto or Sunnyvale.
Terribly Managed
I used to be a regular at this course.
Even they drop the price the condition of the course was absoultely terrible. No course staff control the pace of the play. That was the worse round I played in years.
Can you imagine 7 holes in 3 hours.
I don't know how people can mange that.
Just like they take the money and let as many people go on to the course as fast as possible. Whether you can finish the game they don't care.
I will not go there again.
Great value after 12pm weekday
Played Shoreline golf links starting after 1pm with not a lot of expectations as last round was wet and slow. The course is remodeling their bunkers with crushed feather sand and the greens were smooth and steady. A great value after 12:00pm but expect a steady wind off the bay. There's no doubt you can expect a lot of geese and droppings in the 1st, 7th, 9th, 10th and 12th fairway but holes were playable. Good value for the weekday early afternoon tee time rate <$40 (with cart).
Bad conditions
There were goose droppings all over and lots of areas on fairways with no grass. I hadn't played here in a few years and it was the same last time I was there. The only nice thing was that there was no one else playing so we weren't rushed or slowed down by others.
