Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

A beautiful design. Photo submitted by idream0fg0lf on 11/26/2012
Great Layout
The layout has a lot of doglegs and it challenges you big time. If you can shape shots and are accurate off the tee you can tear this course up. Pace of play was 4/5 only because the group in front of me kept stopping to talk in the carts for minutes at a time. The tee boxes/fairways/rough was in fantastic condition. Greens are running true and I’m good shape with exception of 4 holes where there is patches (then had grounds crew at each of the greens that needed help fixing it ) overall a really fun 18 holes to play, would recommend to any scratch to mid handicap players
One of my Favorite Muni’s
For a municipal course Jimmy Clay is fantastic. The fairways and greens are in really great shape. It’s a really fun course. It’s got some challenges to it but nothing that the average golfer wouldn’t love. I love playing Jimmy Clay. Most importantly it’s fun. For me a course that challenges you but also doesn’t leave you frustrated is great and Jimmy has it for sure. Go have fun.
Nice layout
The course was green everywhere but the greens weren't rolling smoothly.
Long time Jimmy Clay
I've been playing Jimmy Clay since iopened in early 80's ; always loved it and always will.
Too much money for poor condition
All the greens are fuzzy and slow , they have serious damage on them and speeds are inconsistent. The 2 pairs in front of use took15-20 minutes per hole due to them stopping and looking for extra golf balls in the OB. Very obnoxious.
Fun course. Terrible summer conditions.
The greens have been in terrible shape all summer. A temporary green is installed on 8th hole. It's hard to believe that they still charge full price.
Used to be good. Now it’s a waste of money!
Greens are in lousy shape. Standing water and muddy areas all over. Sixsome in front of us! Awful experience!
Great value
Couple of huge fairways made driving exciting. Course had some rough spots, but it looks like they were working on them. Got a good price on the app. Can’t complain
The course was terrible
The greens are in very poor shape. The first two holes was even worse cause they add sod on the green. Then as we was playing the greens didn’t get any better. So we quit that was a waste of time and money. Played other city course they look better. Will not play here again.
A definite must play course
The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was running late for my tee times and they assured me my round of golf and preferred I travel safely than unsafely due to road conditions. I rate the staff 5 stars and will play this course again soon.. The course was very good and was impressed with the conditions of the course for the low price I paid for the round of golf
Lost half the greens
On the front nine most greens had 20-30% loss. Might as well have putted in the parking lot. Back nine was better, but with less than 10% loss average, but all ran slow. Rest of course was in decent shape, few bare tee boxes.
Good pace. Front 9 greens in bad shape
The greens on front 9 in very bad shape. Rest of course is great.
Poor Greens
Course in good shape, but greens were poor. Browned out, very dry. Had fertilizer on them, so hope they will bounce back with some water.
Great course
Course in great shape, greens in good shape and staff very accommodating
Some tricky parts
Jimmy Clay is a very solid Muni in South East Austin. While I think it is the poorer cousin to Roy Kizer, conditions wise, it can be a challenging layout for golfers of any level.
18th hole is one of the most difficult holes in Austin. The first 3 holes can eat you up if you are not careful too. Lots of trouble left.
The Practice facilities are also excellent. Excellent par 3 course (fairways are great for practicing - greens aren't great). The driving range is also excellent.
