Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Fair
Likely a good course at one time, greens were below average, pace of play slow, four hours and forty five minutes. The greens need to improve before I return.
Call Ahead Of Time
I put this squarely on GolfNow...they didn’t advise anyone that the greens were going to be punched or adjust the price. They always throw the staff under the bus but this has happened too often to be a coincidence.
Best value muni in Austin
Course is in more consistently great shape than other munis in the area and for no more than $40 for a round most days it’s hard to beat. Fun layout with some challenging holes depending on what tees you play from.
Great morning
Got in an impromptu 18 during the work week and managed to walk 18 holes in a three-ball in about 3 hours flat. Felt like stealing.
Clay is my favorite layout among the Austin munis and that includes Grey Rock. I just don't play here enough because Mo and Muny are closer. I think it has nearly the perfect amount of trees on it (okay, maybe 3 and 18 have a few too many) and the roll to the land is gentle but interesting. Holes require you to shape it both ways. Some you must be cautious. On others you can let it rip. One thing I noticed on this round was all these little pockets of native grasses that are well off playing corridors that add a nice aesthetic. The course really is looking good, even if I caught it about a week after aerification. (That said, I had just 30 putts). The fairways were about as carpet-like as munis get in Texas.
I'm especially cheesing because I parred 3 and 18. I never par those holes. Cheers y'all.
Just under 4 hours on Memorial Day
Nice pace if play even though lots of people were out. Greens were just so-so. Not too bad but some bumpy rides. You can see in the photo. Bunker sand was pretty good. Bev cart and ranger made it around a few times. Plenty of water coolers.
Great Munny Course
Overall, the course was in really good condition, probably the best shape I have ever seen. I can't put my finger on it, but the greens were missing something. That's the only reason I didn't give it five stars.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
Okay was slow due to too many players booked at each tee time. We quit after 9 holes.
Challenging layout
Small greens put premium on ball striking. Newly aerated greens but still decent green roll.
Good Value
Some rough spots on fairways and tee boxes. Staff was friendly. Pace of play was good. For $25 at 11 on Saturday, it's a good deal.
Trees
The course has a lot of trees which make accuracy important.
