Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Great course for the money
This course is in great shape! Best I've ever seen it. It plays right at 5 hours so you have to just accept it and enjoy the day.
Grrrreeeeeens!!!
Fix the greens! And make sure these course maintenance are out of the way. Or at least give discount to those who are playing during that time or give players heads up about it.
Calling all Marshalls!
At most of Austin's muni courses the single biggest drag is slow and uneven play. I don't know if the Marshall needs to hear about it from me before he lights a fire under someone or correct a foursome who has not even a basic understanding of 'ready golf' but I think even the most casual observer out there could identify where the slow spots are on a given day. I played the front in 1.5 hours this past Sunday and it took an hour longer for the back. That's punitive. And the only reason is a group in front of us who waited for each player to select a club, address the ball, take a swing, admire the results and hold a discussion on the merits of the last shot. It's not too much to ask that we play respectfully out there.
Great Value
Great course, great layout, and in pretty good condition for as little rain as we had. Greens were a little slow but overall I was very happy.
Real Gem
Jimmy Clay has been around a long time but it stands the test of time. Good layout with some challange. Greens are in good shape especially for August.
Highly recommend this course as a good value!
Clay on a 100° Day
Played this course on a very hot day. It's a very well shaded course though - as in to say trees. Wonderful conditions. Greens and fairways were in fantastic shape. And not just for the time (summer, not alot of rain, etc...)
Best muny in Austin IMO.
First couple par 3's are short but fun.
8 is the hardest hole on the course, doesn't look it, but it did end up playing that way.
10 is a great hole to start a fresh 9 - nice long dogleg.
18 is a great finishing hole.
Wonderful course. Will play again.
My whole group was surprised by the conditions - had to throw that in there again.
It feels they never water this golf. Purse. Greens are hard as rock, tee boxes are so hard you can't even use tees to tee of. The course layout is really nice.
Great Austin municipal course
This is a well-managed muni course that does a lot of things right. They converted their snack bar into a sports bar feel with a great vibe. We saw a marshall 3 times and he was tracking progress, they have plenty of sand in bunkers, carts are in good shape, etc.
Excellent Value for the money!
I grew up playing the city courses in Austin. Always liked Jimmy Clay. Recently when I played it was in excellent condition. Greens were solid and the fairways were excellent. They are doing a much better with the course conditions lately. Snack Bar has been transformed into a tavern...give Jimmy Clay a shot!
Impressed
Haven't played Jimmy Clay in years and was surprised how good of shape it was in. Will go back soon!
Jimmy Clay Golf was a great day!
I have played Jimmy Clay for many years. I have not been back in about 5 years due to other circumstances. I must say the course was in great shape, the greens looked really good. It was nice to see that the city has cleaned it up and are spending some money on the course. Well worth the hour drive for me to play. It can be a slow course to play, but if you go with the mindset to have fun, you will.
Great public course
Jimmy Clay & Roy kizer have had the best public greens in Austin area the past couple months. 5 stars for the price point.
Workhorse of a course
Another great Austin municipal course. This course is usually in pretty decent shape and today was no exception. The green were in great shape, but the fairways are starting to get a little bare and burnt out in some spots. This usually makes for a tight lie next to the green or on your approach shot. You have to grind on this course due to the layout, but it is a really fun course to play. The pace today was the worst I've seen in 2 years here, but the staff does a good job of trying to prevent this. Well worth the money. Kizer on the other side is playing a bit better this time of year.
