Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Disappointing
They send my group off behind not one but two fivesomes,
15 minutes late. Three groups on every hole. I left after 4 hours having played only 13 holes. All they care about is money, awful golf experiences
Sunday play
The course was in good condition. My team time was delayed by 20 minutes do to two 5somes ahead of us and the pace of play went downhill from there. Luckily it was a nice day to play.
Slow
This is at least my 10th time playing here and I can only remember maybe twice i finished this course in 4 hours.
The worse thing about this course is SLOW play. It took my 5 hours to play my last round. I waited on every single hole.
The good thing is I only paid $24.00 bucks, which made it worth the wait.
Great layout -Good conditions
Jimmy Clay is the much harder older brother of Roy Kizer. It was in better shape overall and the layout was much more difficult. If the greens are in good shape which they were when i played there then definitely try this course out
Best value
Course in excellent condition.
Nice layout and very affordable!
First time playing at this golf course. Very nice layout and affordable. We finished the round with cart in less than 4hrs.
Great value
Can't beat it for the price! Greens are a little firm right now....okay, they're really firm but still a good time!
3 tee box rock hard
Only two greens had dirt and sand all others were good. The 3 hole tee box on the whites was terrible.
You could not put any and I mean any tee in the ground. Rock hard everywhere. So I had to hit with my three wood and no tee. This was the only tee box like that on the whole course. Otherwise the course is in really good shape right now.
Enjoyable
Good course...will play again. Good layout and greens were in great shape. Stay in the fairway or it's a challenge to find your ball in the rough.
Pace of play was tough with all of the players walking but we did play on a Saturday so it was expected.
Great value
With recent rains, course is in good shape. Can get pretty firm when there has not been rain. Very nice for the money - great value.
Payed double
Ok last time I set an tee time though this golfnow site I payed $1.00 to reserve a tee time, I payed $26.00 at the redgister. Great deal , all the reasons I love golfnow. But this past Tuesday 5/10 I payed $26.00 through golfnow's site than payed the same amount at the redgister. ( what gives ). So I payed double. Is that right or no?
Narrow fairways and lots of dog legs
Decent golf course for a muni. I rank Mo' Willy higher than this course in terms of course conditions, but in terms of staff friendliness and pace of play, this course far out does Mo' Willy. The fairways and tee boxes are super hard, but that's pretty typical of these areas, especially when there's little rain. Overall, the course was pretty nice, with lots of mature trees in some of the holes, which makes it challenging. The course needed a little be of TLC in some parts, but nothing to complain about especially being a muni. The greens were tough to read and hard to judge the speed, but nonetheless they were in pretty decent shape.
The driving range was really nice, they actually let you hit from the grass unlike Mo' Willy were you can only hit irons from the artificial turf.
I would definitely come back to this course, especially because it's challenging, it's centrally located, nice staff and the pace of play is decent.
Terrible conditions and poor layout
I had previously played Roy Kizer and enjoyed it, so I played Jimmy Clay as well. The course was in terrible condition, the greens were basically rock. The layout was ridiculous as well, with 90 degree angle dog legs. Skip the round here and play next door.
For a muny course
For a muny course this one has always been challenging and fun. It has some tight fairways and lots of sand. The course is in good shape and right now the greens are good with all the rain we've had.
Although it's not as scoreable as kizer, it's still a fun course to play!
Terrible golf experience
5 somes walking. Pace of play at least 6 hours.
Very good public course
For a public course that gets lots of play Jimmy Clay is a very good course.Several fairways are narrow enough to require good shots making ability, and the greens were in fine condition. I highly recommend this course.
Pleasantly surprised by greens and pace
I hadn't played Jimmy Clay since it was closed for the better part of last year for a redo of the greens and the driving range. I've always been a fan of Clay's layout more than Kizer (at the same facility), but the greens have always seemed to hold it back.
The new Tifdwarf Bermuda greens were rolling really nicely. They are pretty firm, as it seemed most of my approach shots would roll quite a bit after landing. But that's a positive compared to how splotchy and soft they'd normally been in the past. Guys in my group were rolling putts in from all over the place.
I was also surprised at the pace. We played as a Five-ball on a Sunday morning and got around in just over 4 hours. I was also shocked to see, at the 10th hole, a ranger come by and wipe down some of our clubs and zip off. This is a muni?
Anyways, it's been good to see the munis at Austin get some TLC in recent years and hopefully the new greens are able to thrive despite all the play this course gets. I'll definitely be back.
DRY and FAST
course fairways were dry and hard. Drives were at times 280-320 which just left wedge shots. Not what I like to play. Would like some variety. Greens were also hard and wouldn't even hold wedge shots. There's plenty of water in the hazards, need to use some of it.
Fun to play
Fairway were dry and hard and the greens were fast
good beginner course
great course for the beginning golfer. fairly difficult for those with slice and draw in their swing. friendly staff and good price on bucket of balls to get started with before round.
