Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

course in very good shape
first time i had played clay since the work had been done and i thought it was in good shape and the greens were in good shape. enjoyed the round.
Jimmy Clay
Nice course, great pace of play 3 1/2 hours. Greens are nice, smooth & fast.
Looking good Jimmy Clay
Recently reopened after a large renovation of the greens and some changes to a couple of holes. They did a fantastic job. Greens were emasculate! Great day! I have been back playing golf again after a 10 year lay off and this was the first time I shot under 100, so I was very happy!!
good course even better after renovation
didn't expect the course to be in such good shape at this point in the year. Grass was in good condition all over the course, almost zero burn out from the sun. Greens were in great shape, pretty firm but rolled extremely well. Definitely my new go-to for austin municipals.
First time playing
The course just re-opened not long ago and it was in excellent condition. Challenging for a beginner like me but definitely playable.
Once the driving range gets complete it will be even better.
Great to have jimmy back
So good to see this open again. The renevation did it well, and it's in the best condition I've seen it in 10 years...and primed to get even better. Fairways haven't been trampled for the better part of a year which has them plush and like a nice soft carpet. The greens have ridden of their spots, are slightly long (per usual) but putting true, firm but supple and I think on the way to becoming amongst the top couple publics in the area.
The new jimmy clay
Course is in great shape after just being redone made a bit more friendly some tight fairways but very fun round of golf
Good greens, poor teeboxes
The course was in decent shape. The greens were fast and mostly rolling well. The teeboxes were awful, need to be redone. Good bargain.
This course is really fun and in great shape!
I keep seeing reviews and opinions of people I have talked to about how Kizer is so much better than Clay. I just played Kizer a few weeks back and I loved it since it's the only Links type course in Austin. But I have to say I enjoyed the Clay course even better.
Do yourself a favor and give this course a chance.
Out of all the courses in it's class (Bluebonnet, Lions, Mo Williams, etc), I would put this one at the head of the class (just ahead of Mo Williams).
Good Value Course
Fairways need a little work but overall course is nice with nice layout of holes. Several dog legs and both short and long par 3's were fun.
Worth the money
I went with 3 friends. I walked because it was 18 compared to 35 to ride. Easy course to walk. It was in the 50s so it was cold and walking will keep me warm. course was great for $18. Greens were smooth and fair. Fairways a little hard, but that's a given at a muni in the winter. All in all course played fair and easy. Only bad thing, leaves everywhere. For the cost well worth it.
Above expectations
It is very challenging, several different types of greens, hidden, island, downhill, 2 uphill, one in a "mountain", be ready to use a high loft club for this one, located in 10th hole. 18 is a huge challenge starting from the tee box, left or right , its woods, green orotected by 2 hughe bunkers. . Im definitively playing this course again as many times as possible. Has 2 courses, the other one is Roy Kizer, more of a links type. Has a par 3 as well, and practice range, with chipping and putting area. Could you ask for more?
Good walking course
joined a twosome and we completed round in about 3hrs 25 minutes, there were quite a few walkers. course greens and fairways were in very good condition in spite of time of year. fun course to play.
good!
i`m new to here. and beginner.Jimmy Clay Golf Course is near my house, so it`s convenient. and they playing with me are very kind. i had a nice time. Thank GOLFNOW.COM SO MUCH!! I CONTINUE TO contact GOLFNOW.COM .
good muni
Condition was OK, front 9 very short but narrow, back nine short but a bit more open.
On a day
On a day like yesterday, it was great to be out losing balls!! The greens were over-seeded so it made putting a challenge. I know it has been a challenge this summer to keep the course in shape so my hat is off to the groundskeepers. The people in the clubhouse continue to be consistent in rudeness and attitude. The kid behind the desk couldn't muster a "Hello", "Enjoy your round", or "Thanks for playing out here". I know this job may be somewhat menial in comparison to his dreams of being on the tour, but common sense would dictate that he show a little courtesy to keep people coming back which might help to continue paying his salary. Just getting off the stool/chair to greet people would be a start. My gripe about the muni course employees is nothing new, but I keep going out there anyway because I like the courses. Einstein and his definition of insanity and I are good friends.
Long grass on greens
It was cheaper than I thought it would be, then on the first green I find out why. They apparently over seeded them and they were uncut...very shaggy.
Much improved
Greens had minimal dry patches an course was much more manicured compared to 2013
Improving Weekly
Jimmy Clay is improving weekly. Some of the greens aren't in the greatest shape, but they look better every time I come here. I played with a friend of mine last week and he said it's immensely better than in years past. One frustrating aspect of the course is there are a lot of dog legs off the tee. So you can't hit your driver as much as Roy Kizer, but it offers an extra challenge. I now play here a couple times a week. Great value.
