Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Greens still looking good
I've been telling people that Clay has the best greens of the ATX munis since they redid them a couple years ago and I was pleased to see that after overseed they are still running really nicely. You could drop a lot of putts out there. That said, whoever set the pins on this Sat AM round was in a bad mood. Lots of tucked positions out there, which isn't ideal operations for a busy weekend. Even still, pace was a good clip and our four-ball got around in about 4 hours flat. It is definitely recommended to get out early AM like us if you want to play quickly before the fiveballs get out.
I was really impressed how busy the place was despite the fact it was a cold and wet Saturday morning. This facility does a lot right and local golfers are noticing. Great walking course, too.
Didn't get a chance to check out the new grill but it looks like it's open.
Greens of Jimmy Clay
The greens are the best of most Austin Public courses. Amazing for this time of year at how well they are( Relatively speaking for this time of year)
Value for your money
Once again this course was a terrific golf experience, considering it is a public course. Good value, friendly staff, leaves blown well, greens in very good shape for a public course, and design layout providing challenges for all levels of golfers. The Marshall kept play moving and finished under 4 hours. Not bad for a Friday am.
Wonderful round of golf
I have enjoyed the Austin Municipal courses for many years, They are all well kept to include Jimmy Clay. Course was in wonderful shape and will enjoy playing again sometime soon. Great bang for the buck and is good for all levels of players.
Beautiful day for some golf
That’s what’s everyone thought. The course was packed. I can not believe Clay would allow 5some’s on the course on a Saturday morning. There were multiple big groups in front. My 4some
Played the front nine in 2:45 minutes! Unacceptable. Played the 10th and noticed 6 carts waiting to tee off on 11 and then called it. Wasn’t gonna play a 6 hour round that day.
Great outing at Jimmy Clay
Pace of play was good, both Marshall AND Drinks cart made it past us at least 2 each 9. Enjoyed this course, I will play it again and bring more people with me.
Marshalless
The marshal did abaolutely nothing, on prime time where fees are the highest. I expected at least the marshall attempting to resolve the issue, it just kept getting slower woth 3-4 groups per tee box
Overal experience
This course is a very friendly atmosphere. The driving range is adequate, the putting green and chipping practice area is great and the course layout is challenging but very fair. I like the long distances on many of the holes which adds to the challenge especially given it is a public course. The greens are currently in really good shape and the course is maintained well. I fpund the fellow golfers on this course are consistently fun to play with, courteous and friendly.
A pleasant challenge
The Jimmy Clay course reminds me of courses I loved playing in South Carolina - tree lined, water & sand hazards, well cared for, well kept fairways & greens. A fun, challenging course to play at a reasonable cost, unlike Grey Rock!! You use all your clubs.
Great course best price
JC has great features and can’ t beat staff friendly attitude.
Great day on Jimmy Clay
I was in a threesome playing behind a group of five and the pace of play was excellent. Finished in 4 hours
Great value
Nice layout with a few challenging holes but quite forgiving. Made for an enjoyable round without being frustrated except for the greens which were very slow. Greens were predictable once you adjusted for having to strike like you were mad at someone.
Good city course.....greens need mowing
Enjoy the JC layout, pace of play was awesome. Staff was great. Fairways were a mixture of minimal grass, some hardpan to very wet areas. Greens were plush and green.....but were very slow. Don't know why they weren't mowed, but made putting very challenging. Great green fees made it more tolerable.
First time to play this course. Was a lot of fun. Very nice course being a muni and will definitely play it again. Bit of a drive for us as we live near Cedar Park and JC is south Austin. Still, nice course and the price was great.
