Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Clay 5/18
I really enjoyed my round. It was an afternoon round on Sunday and we followed a 5-some so it was nearly 5 hours. Regardless, the course is in good shape.
Solid
Everything was great, other than the condition of some of the greens. They need work.
Good corse
Staff is extremely friendly, professional, and courteous. Corse overall in great condition and personally like the way it's set up.
Improving
Jimmy Clay is improving. Whether it's the late winter hanging around or better course management or both, for $39, the course is in very good shape and that is great value.
The only negative was booking though Golf Now. The system booked five players for one tee time. The course shared that this is increasingly occurring through Golf Now and were in discussions with Golf Now on assessing the issue.
good times
The course was in good shape and we played fast....
Good course with a mix of challenging holes.
Love this course. Some holes are wide open, allowing you to swing away... while mixing in a smattering of holes forcing ball placement. The greens were a little slow today but that can be expected this time of the year. The wind was very brisk, forcing higher scores but still beats work any day!
sloooooooow play
nice course, good staff, reasonable value.. but, where was the course marshall? had two 3-somes jump the course and start on hole 1 versus hole 10 (Tuesday start on hole 10), which speed bumped everyone.. plus the players (older gentlemen) were not concerned with the pace of their play... we had to skip 3 over 2 holes just to avoid a 6 hour day. not good.
Rbg
Course was in good condition for the drought we have had. Some spots on the greens were bare where the Poanna weed had died but overall well kept.
Older Muni Course
So pretty much get what you pay for here... older municipal couse in South end of town.Greens were in rough shape, but no rain for a month has probably contributed to that. Speed of play was good for a Sunday afternoon - didn't have to wait much. Otherwise, 18 and a cart for $30 is pretty much the top value for a round at this place right now. Want to try Kizer (newer) to see if it's in any better shape... seems harded to get a tee time on that 18.
Good shape
The course is in very good shape. Greens could be better. I enjoyed playing.
greens had just been airated
the greens were patchy at best and had just been airated
nice course
Had an awesome time. Great course, must come and see for yourself!
Sanded Greens
I usually have fun on the course but this day due to the sanded greens it really threw my putting game off which resulted in a frustrating time. I will play there again but will be more careful in checking whether or not there has been any sort of maintenance done prior to booking.
The greens
The greens were in bad shape on majority of the holes.
Good price & layout
I like this course. It has a fun layout and is a good price. I enjoy this layout more then Kizer but Kizer is kept in better condition. You are spat always able to get on Clay with little wait. I would go out of the way to play it but if you live in the area it's a good deal.
Nice challage
The fairways were good with nice grass. But some of the greens need lots of work. Some spots on green have no grass. I like the layout with some very tough holes. You will need to use all your clubs.
Jimmy Clay
Fairly straight forward course. Pretty flat fairways and greens. A few tee boxes are very hard, so planting a tee can be a bit of an annoying challenge. The greens are in better shape than last year, but they still need some serious work.
Better courses in Austin
Played Jimmy Clay in early March. Course was very dry, greens were poor with a lot of bare, dead areas. Hard to have a good round when singles keep budding in front of you, no marshalls which resulted in a very long round. Not overly excited to return.
Pretty sad greens, but okay for the price.
The greens are in pretty bad shape, even for this time of year---quite a bit of bare ground on a lot of them that made the ball go airborne. But overall, the course is in pretty good shape; certainly worth the relatively low price.
Too many groups of five out there, though! Pace of play would be better if the course limited groups to foursomes.
Greens awful
The greens are bad, and the patchy nature of the dead areas leads me to believe they will remain bad all year. The layout is nice, some fairways are very narrow so the challenge is definitely there. Decent greens would make this a great course. As it is it's just OK. Price is low enough to get me back.
