Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Great muni course
Great muni course if you're looking for cheap evening/afternoon golf. Let's be honest, they aren't going to win any awards for the facilities but it's the best bang for the buck in central austin. If you're looking for pristine greens and fairways I hear there's >$100 courses out by the lake that have plenty of tee times.
fairway maintained good. Staffs very friendly.
tee time control very good. fairway maintained good. staffs very friendly. greens may need improve. over all, good.
Good golfing experience...
I am 10 handicapper... Retired educator and play golf everyday... available as full-time cen-TX rater for Golfnow.
Dead Grass on Greeens
Majority of greens have 80% plus dead grass. Putts bounce and do not hold their line. Like playing on temporary greens, no temporary greens would be an improvement. I would not recommend playing this course unless the green fee is HEAVILY discounted. Save your $$. Play elsewhere.
Greens were in horrible condition
The greens were in the worst shape I have ever seen at this course. The course allowed 5somes to play, which resulted in slow playing.
Greens were in trouble.
Loved the layout of the course. Fairways were really good and the tee boxes were fine. But they were losing parts of their greens. Had to putt over bare/sanded spots. Hopefully they can fix it soon because everything else was great.
The staff was excellent+.
Nice course but the greens need work.
Had a great round here. The course wasn't terribly difficult and as somewhat of a beginner I really appreciate that. The staff was friendly but a bit on the unforgiving side. The greens need A LOT of work. I don't recommend the putting surfaces at all. If you are going to play a casual round, this is a wonderful course. If you are playing with a view to posting toward your handicap, play somewhere else.
Greens are bad. Staff friendly.
Greens are in bad shape. Rest of the course is ok and the layout is playable. Just need to improve their greens.
The course should be worth $20-$30 7 days a week.
I have played Jimmy Clay a decent amount and the twilight rates during the week are definitely worth it. The greens are horrible though. You should add 10-12 strokes to your score because of how bad the ball rolls. I understand it is a municipal course.
Due to the quality of the greens, this course shouldn't be more than $30 on the weekends. This course is good for a novice player.
Under repair
All greens were not more and rolled like shaggy carpet. They were under repair and should of informed golf now users through the site. Fairways were not bad as we have had a lot of recent rain. Play was slow and the group in front of us hit multiple balls a piece. This needs to be regulated as it was wide open in front of them the majority of the times. Please have the course Marshalls do their job.
Please fix the greens
Challenging course due to some narrow fairways / tee shots. Great price and good facilities to practice. The only issue I have are the greens. They are in horrible shape. Weird because Roy Kizer greens are, for the most part, in way better shape. I really like this course but I will choose not to play here again until they either can solve the bad green issue or gut it and do them all over again.
Good muni course, but greens need work.
This course is a nice muni course presenting my game (18 hdcp.) enough challenge. However, the greens are in really bad shape. Every one has at least some brown, dead areas, and many are largely covered in dead areas. The ball jumps and changes course on putts so don't give yourself too much grief for a poor putting day.
Very nice but poor greens
Love the layout for a daily fee but the greens are poor. It has been this way for some time and I believe they will have to been totally redone.
Challenging and great value.
Fairways in great shape, the greens had just been sanded and seeded so in a couple of weeks these should also be great. Excellent value, the course is long and has several challenging holes.
They need to space foursomes out more....quit getting greedy and let folks enjoy the game
The proshop had foursomes going off 2 - 4 minutes after one another, they seemingly could care less as to your golfing experience being enjoyable but were trying to cram as many people onto a course at one time. This was frustrating the two to three foursomes in front of us as well as the two to three behind us. EVERY single person I encountered made a comment about how they were just getting greedy and did not care about quality..
Greens in bad shape!
I really like playing Jimmy Clay and enjoyed our round. However, the greens were in awful shape, I felt like we were putting on dirt half the time.
Greens are shot
This is an interesting layout but conditions, even for a muni, are poor.
Good condition
Course in good condition except for the greens.
There are some people that go on the course to "learn and teach", and realy gold people back. Took my 4some 3-1/2 hours to do the front nine, so instead of going to the back 9 we did the front nine again
It seems the Marshell needs to come out more and greens were terrible
I've played at Jimmy Clay before and the greens were much better than they are now. It needs a lot of attention.
tried and true Austin golf course
Jimmy Clay is easy to get on to play, inexpensive, it's a fun course for all skill levels (I'm a high handicapper and I always enjoy the round here), it's always a good pace of play, the course has interesting holes, there are no houses on the course, all in all it's a great course.
