Morris Williams Golf Course
About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Good for the money
Course was in good shape only complaint is the greens could have been better. Everything else was excellent. Price was the best part. This course is better than Clay and Kizer only problem is trying to get home at 5Pm from this course.
Big brother reunion
I golfed eighteen holes with my brother who I hadn't seen in over three years. We were pleasantly surprised with the golf
Course and had a great time. We will definitely return soon.
Horrible greens
The greens are in horrendous shape. The tee boxes and fairways are pretty bad, but not as bad as the greens. Every single green has tons of patches with zero grass, just what seemed like roots of dying grass that'll seem never to grow again. As a result, the greens were super bumpy and impossible to read. One of the guys in our foursome, got a 74, no idea how he putted so well in those things. Also they aerated some of the fairways and tee boxes, but it looks like Freddy Krooger did the job. It's a shame that a course that used to be my favorite muni a year ago, it's gotten in such bad shape over a year, that I'll probably never return to it again. My recommendation, close this course for a few months, until its greens take good shape again.
Love Mo Willie!!
I have played this course numerous times and it is one of my favorite places to play. The tract meets my eye well, the staff are exceptional and the price affordable. The greens are struggling with transitioning from winter to summer, hence my "fair" rating for course conditions. I know this is a temporary condition so plan on continuing to play this course at every opportunity. if you want an enjoyable round, I highly recommend Morris Williams Golf Course.
Good course, greens in terrible shape
I like this course for the most part, bit they let the greens go pretty badly.
Nice muni course in ATX
Just needs better greens. The rest is super playable.
Bad Marshall
I play this course probably once a month and the greens are always in the same shape, rough. Today I was paired up with 3 other guys, one has only been playing golf for 6 months and the other two were just hacking it around also( they shot 100+).
So we were off to a slow start and by the time we reached the 3rd tee box the marshall came by and told us to pick up the pace because we were behind by a hold and a half, I had no problem with that. By the time we reached the 9th tee box he was sitting there telling us to pick up the pace of play again but this time there was nobody behind us on the 8th tee box yet. We ended up playing the round of golf in less that 4 hours and felt like we were rushed the entire round. The marshals and employees at this course have no personalities, they are all old, grumpy and sad people that lack customer interaction. They act like you are bothering them when you check in. I always feel like the City should hire some younger staff or staff that enjoy being there at least. They are the reason I don't play this course more often.
Mo Willy
This course is close to home. Clean and well managed course.
A little pricey but still worth it.
Nice course
Layout, fairways and overall course was very good. Greens were bummpy, slow and some bad/dry spots in one third of the greens. Need work on greens.
Beautiful course. Terrible greens
The course itself was absolutely beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly. Pace of play was nice. Never really had anyone else ahead or behind which was nice. I loved the layout of the course but once you get to the greens it's like putting in cat litter it looks like there may have been grass there at some point but has long been forgotten. I would love to see them fix the greens because this course has the ability to be a great place to play.
Lost greens
Have been playing MW for many years, never have I seen greens in this poor of shape anywhere. Austin has had a wet spring and other courses has reaped the fruits of it. Extremely bare and hard greens, no excuse for these conditions, especially at this time of the year. Will not be back this year, sad. MW should inform everyone making tee times about the shape of the greens before accepting fees.
Green's Need work
I have played this course once before and it was great. However, this last round was one to forget. The course layout is unique and fun to play, but the green's were in the worst condition I have seen. We were basically putting on painted sand. Not worth the money or the time it took which was another major issue. The pace of play was terrible. Over 4.5 hrs to complete a round. I will be taking my money else where for now.
Never seen MW this bad!! Sad sad sad
The greens are gone and by gone I mean they hardly are holding grass. Number 14 is covered in pure Algae. It's crusted and taken over the green. No excuses as the temperature and rain as be AMAZING all "winter" this course used to have solid muny greens but NW its not worth $20 much less $40. Won't be back. Will try again in 6 months (no way they turn these greens any sooner)
william manor
Good course. Good fairways. Been in bad shape, partly due to time of year. Very friendly staff.
Greens are horrible
Went out on a wet day. Course was fairly water logged, cart path only, but playable. Fairways were in good shape, but the greens were awful. Even if they had been dry, they were only about 20% grass. The rest was just dirt. Will not go back until they have a chance to regrow them.
Fun day with my son
Course is close to my son's House. We thought we would give it a try. We really enjoyed the course and nestled into one of the best areas of Austin. We plan on being regulars
Poor Conditions
The greens at Morris Williams are in terrible condition. The worst part is they get like this each "winter" season. The course was redesigned in the last 5 years and in my option they build the greens way too big and apparently used a grass that turns to mud in the winter. Overall this course is not worth playing right now - at any price!
