Morris Williams Golf Course
About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Slow shaggy greens
Overall, I enjoyed the round, but the greens were shaggy & slow, even compared to Austin Muni standards. Otherwise a nice layout that played at a good pace, finishing in 3hr 50min. I was glad to play with someone who knew the course... Will return. Please cut the greens so the balls roll as they should!
Challenging course.
Course layout requires the use of all of your clubs and the greens are tricky outside of three feet. Firm putting stroke a must.
Morris Williams Golf Course
The course is in very good shape. About 3 greens have damage spots however the overall course conditions were very good.
Staff rude/// pace management is required
Marshall is rude , desk staff is rude.
Had 5 sum and it was freaking slow. I had to wait 3-5 minties before every shot and asked marshall if you can manage pace. He replied they paid money so there's nothing i can do.
He knows what marshall does pretty well. Get training again and learn what your role is.
Excellent Course
Played on Sunday and it was probably my 30th time playing. I enjoyed the course and for the most part it was in great condition. The only hiccup was the previous heavy rains and two fairways were still a little muddy. Other than that, it was excellent.
Course in good condition. Pace of play a little slow, typical for a city course, but can't beat the price.
Greens-Always a Great Course
Greens are better look like a different blade of grass. Greens were aerated so we didn't get the full measure of them. they are playing slower than before i noticed all the courses in austin went to this blade or class of grass (Bermuda). Oh yea the green before were like the greens at Grey Rock but they also had there greens turning dark. you can see it's a smaller blade of Bermuda. oh i am a senior and i played off the Black tees and still shot a 85 not bad for me i'll take it any day. I gave up golf several times and many years apart so to play like I am playing i like it.

The course was in good shape overall, although the 3rd hole green was confusing.
Good golf course
Good layout a couple of challenging holes but overall great experience would recommend this golf course i will be playing again real soon!
Great Course
This is about the sixth time I've played here and it seems every time I play here, my scores keeps going down. The course was in really good shape considering the sweltering heat we have here in Texas. I only saw a few areas that needed some attention and one of the water dispensers was almost bone dry (it was in the back nine). On a side note, I found interesting that one could play at Morris Williams from 12 -3pm for $25 but if you booked online it was $27 plus all the other fees.
Good experience
MW is a reasonably challenging course due to its layout, but it is also fairly wide open. A little long especially with some hills, and trouble is definitely around for wayward shots. Very few blind shots but some hidden hazards if not familiar with course. Good location on the eastern part of town across from the former airport. Driving range adequate but not fancy. Pace of play was better than one might expect for a public course on the weekend, but we did not play particularly fast either. Definitely worth a return visit, although i doubt i can match my score again - i drove particularly well and mostly in the short grass - which helps.
Slow
This course actually wasn't bad. The price was right. But I teed off at 830 ish on s Monday and it was awful as far as pace. I was with another golfer as a two some and we backec up to a group who wouldn't let us play through .. this is why golf is struggling ..
The course was in good shape except for the greens, looks like they are in the process of repairing them.
Morris Williams
The greens had lots of bare spots. Fairways were in excellent condition. Pace of play was a little slow.
Good for the money
Course was in good shape only complaint is the greens could have been better. Everything else was excellent. Price was the best part. This course is better than Clay and Kizer only problem is trying to get home at 5Pm from this course.
Big brother reunion
I golfed eighteen holes with my brother who I hadn't seen in over three years. We were pleasantly surprised with the golf
Course and had a great time. We will definitely return soon.
