Morris Williams Golf Course
About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Fun day with my son
Course is close to my son's House. We thought we would give it a try. We really enjoyed the course and nestled into one of the best areas of Austin. We plan on being regulars
Poor Conditions
The greens at Morris Williams are in terrible condition. The worst part is they get like this each "winter" season. The course was redesigned in the last 5 years and in my option they build the greens way too big and apparently used a grass that turns to mud in the winter. Overall this course is not worth playing right now - at any price!
BAD GREENS (No Overseed)
Great Course, but for some reason they did not over seed the greens this winter. They are horrible, pitted and mostly mud, tons of cleat marks because there is no grass..........Wait until we have a month of 90 degree temp before playing here......probably May'ish.
Good layout
This is a nice, old course with a good layout. The recent heavy rains have hurt the greens temporarily but they haven't hurt the quality of the experience. An excellent value for the cost.
Greens
I have played this course dozens of times. The greens are the poorest I've play in Austin. I do not recommend anyone playing the course for at least 3 months until they get the greens back to playing conditions. The clubhouse people have the personality of a dish rag.
Horrible Greens
The tee boxes were nice... The rest of it, not so much.
Very disappointing. I won't be going back.
wait until summer
Greens are dormant your putting on wet dirt. they did not over seed.
Have to play your tee shot correctly
Very cold and windy day. The darn trees kept getting in the way. You have to play your tee shot in the correct spot. The greens are on the small side and have slope all over the place. Pretty quick speed on the green. So if you are in the wrong place the putt is even harder. Very enjoyable round overall.
The guy at the desk could be nicer.
Good Layout
I've been a longtime area resident. I've played this course several times. It is a good layout and the sand in the traps is new and actual sand. Other then that, it's the same old course. It's dry, brown and the greens were painted green. I guess maybe that's what I should expect for this time of year (february 2017), for a city course. The cost was high for a "hot deal", I'll probably play this course sometime down the road but I hope not anytime soon. PS: the club house and snack bar are also new
Winter Greens are Tough!
Played on a windy, sunny day and thought the course was overall in very good shape for late Texas winter... but the greens were terrible. They've elected not to over-seed, which is fine, but probably because of the poor treatment by golfers (not fixing ball marks, dragging feet), and other agronomic factors, these are just painted dirt at this stage. So, just take putting with a grain of salt (or sand, or rocks) and enjoy it for what it is - a course in good, winter, condition. Finally, a marshal to address the overly serious and slow golfers from the local tech factory playing ahead of us would have been nice.
Horrible shape
Golf course was in horrible shape. When this course is in good condition it's fun to play but it won't be there for quite sometime. This may be the last time I play at Mo Willie.
Nice course, like the way it flows.
Considering how many golfers were out in the middle of December the staff was able to keep everything moving. We only go held up on par 3's other than that moved well. Fairways were in good shape. Greens were a little patchy. Overall a good course
Nice course great price
I played with my dad today and we had a great time. Greens were fast and did hold some approach shots. Pace was ok, four some would not let the three twosomes through, four hour round on a Monday.
Great Day and Great Course
I grew up playing Morris Williams, and always getting back to play. My round was great and the course was in excellent shape. Great pace of play for a Sunday Mid morning tee time. Morris Williams is a great course, allows you to us some imagination and you will use all the clubs in your bag. I will always recommend this course.
Nice day!
Course and greens in great shape. Most courses are over seeding for winter while MO Willy goes dormant. Always solid conditions for play!
great course
good value for money very good layout
Mo Willie is in exellent shape for a muni...
Go play Mo Willie now.... the fairways and greens are in great shape.
