Nice course could be even better with a few extras

Played Ashton Hills for the first time on a perfect day. Very interesting and challenging layout. The challenge mostly comes from the number of hills/doglegs and the speed of the very fast, true greens. But I really liked the design overall and that is always my FIRST criteria for rating a course.

The design has several of what I would call "memorable" holes. These are unique holes that you remember well the FIRST time you play a course. This includes a tough uphill par 3 across a lake with almost no bailout. Also a very cool but tough par 5 diagonally across a lake on the 2nd shot. They also have a beautiful par 4/short par 3 double-green combination on the back 9.

The course was in very good shape except the bunkers which were a little inconsistent. But with the recent crazy weather I'll grant them that. The greens were fast and true. I'd think about a 11-12 maybe.

Indoor bar/grill was closed probably due to covid. Outdoor snack shop was convenient, but the lack of availability of ice (other than to members) is not a good policy. Fortunately, I read this in reviews beforehand and brought my own. This is the South. PROVIDE ICE.

The only serious problem was the lack of sufficient course markings. They have no yardage book, no 150 posts, no cart GPS, and very sporadic sprinkler marking that only shows middle of the green. Keep in mind this is on a course with a lot of hills, blind shots, forced carries, and elevated multi-tiered greens. Fortunately the pro-shop was kind enough to loan me a spare flag "shooter" which helped some. But I've never been able to hold those things still enough to get them to work well.

Other than the markers issue I'd give it 5 stars. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I would play it again. It's one of those courses you really have to play a few times to know where your ball will end up because of the way the fairways "feed". It reminds me a bit of CC Gwinnett. A solid, challenging consistent course OTP Eastside.

Great course to play, very challenging. Lot of fun, unfortunately a bad outing for myself. Facility is very nice, unfortunately they were in the middle of reseeding the driving range tees, so we had to hit off of mats. No issue with them doing maintenance, only issue was mats weren’t in the best shape with no tees on them. All around great course.

Great Shape

Course is in overall great shape. Greens roll true but are a little firm so the ball rolls out on your approach shot .

Excellent Surprise

I had never played this course and picked it to play our 53rd Annual golf tournament (only 7 players). We play at different courses each year and the first time in Atlanta. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this course. Definitely on the list for next years play since I won again and keeping the tournament in Atlanta for the 2021 year. Definitely worth the money. Play it, you won't be disappointed..

Amazing Layout

Course offers an amazing variety of holes configurations. No hole repeats it's self. A great challenge off the tee but typically set up great approach shots. Make your hay on the par 5s because they are fun and gettable.

Nice course, fun layout, needs yardage markers.

I like a course with holes that make you think and offers risk/reward on several holes. This course does that. Play the correct tees for your skill level and you should enjoy it. Tee boxes, fairways and fringe around the greens were near perfect. Greens are still a little sandy, but coming in nicely and should be near perfect in another week. Even with that they roll true. My biggest complaint is the course needs yardage markers. Can't find one anywhere. Not on cart paths, not in the fairways. Once in a while you might find a sprinkler head if you search long enough. I was told by several course employees that the club pro doesn't like them. I'm sorry but not everyone uses a GPS watch or range finder and it sure would make the round more enjoyable to be able to find distances to the green. And just FYI, they don't want you to bring a cooler and they won't give or even sell you ice (I tried). Their reasoning is "we sell cold drinks". I don't mind spending money on your drinks, but on a 94 degree day those cold drinks get hot after 1 hole which makes the other 8 before the turn very long and hot. There was no beverage cart so that wasn't an option either. Overall this is a very nice course for the money, but a few small changes could make the golf more enjoyable.

A fine course

the course layout is pretty cool, but unfortunately the conditions were not great. Couple burnt out holes and traps were no good at all.

One weird issue was that the bartender at the turn refused me ice (on a 90 degree Georgia day) stating that ice was “only for members”

Not Bad

Greens were being aerated which we knew from golfnow, but the pro shop attendant didn't tell us that the entire course was cart path only until after we paid for the round! Would not have played under those conditions.

Not terrible

Wasn’t bad course given the amount of rain we had the night before. Nearly every bunker was a mini pond though. Course was in good condition otherwise.
