Spectacular But Frightening
Olde Beau is a contradiction...beautiful, fun, challenging, and at the same time scary, exhausting, and overwhelming! First the positives: the pro and his staff are wonderful. The clubhouse is top notch. The chicken salad in the grill room is worth the trip. The course condition was flawless and the weather that day was perfect.
Now, the negatives: after the third hole, the course becomes too difficult. Unless you are a long-hitting, accurate player, play the green tees i am 72 years old, formerly a low handicapper (3-4) now playing on a 14. I tried to play the course at what seemed to be a reasonable 6,100 yards, but after nine holes moved up to the white tees at 5,700. It was still too hard. Swallow your pride and move up to the 5,200 yard green markers. Also, some cart paths are dangerous. Almost all have incredibly steep grades, and some even had loose gravel. On the second tee I skidded down the path 150 feet. Be careful!
Final analysis: You MUST add this one to your life's list! However, don't expect to play your normal game. There is never a level lie, and you must hit that 70 yard flop shot going straight up far too often. This course will take your breath away, bioth literally and figuratively. It beat me up, but in the end i loved it!
Excellent greens
Greens are in the best shape I have ever seen. Course plays long and difficult. Play from the right tees. This is a beautiful course with terrific views.
Mountaintop Beauty
Course was in perfect condition all the way around. The views are the best anywhere. The course is a challenge as is any mountain course at 3000 feet. The layout was great and the staff was wonderful. Bring a rangefinder or get a yardage book as my cellphone yardage app had no signal. Rely on the tip sheet given with scorecard that really helps. This course is a must play and one you will remember for the rest of your life. One of the best mountain courses I have ever played.
Awesome Views
I played this course on a Saturday and pace of play was great. The tee boxes fairways and greens were in great shape. The views from some of the holes were breathtaking. The greens rolled around a ten. I will definitely go back and play this course again.
Challenging course
Tough course from blue tees, can’t imagine playing from gold tees. Great conditions on greens, fairways and tee boxes. Friendly staff, blind shots galore, very tough for first time playing it, subsequent rounds will be better. Temp on the mountain is 20 degrees lower than bottom of mountain and that’s not an exaggeration
M-A-G-N-I-F-I-C-E-N-T!!!!!
This is the most beautiful course in the North Carolina mountains, I have played quite a few and this far surpasses any other!
A Must Play (Mountain) Course
We enjoyed our round. Excellent condition, nice layout, good pace of play, and courteous staff.
The Best!!
This course is a must play!! You will enjoy the layout and the conditions are fabulous. We play here every summer We are from Florida so we enjoy the elevation changes.
Great Course
We had a great time, the first time we played here , the only thing was there were a lot of blind shots and we couldn’t believe that we literally had the course to our selves. The first impression is very important and we were very impressed! We are excited about playing again because we have a better sense of how the course is laid out, number 17 is a little deseptive because of the slope but one of the reasons we will be back! Thanks to the staff who were very accommodating and everyone seemed very friendly, truly a great experience!
True Mountain Course
This course is great from hole 1 to hole 18. The back 9 is much more challenging than the front 9 and some of the best views in the state from a golfing standpoint. Course is usually in great shape, there's only 5 guys maintain this course and they do a fantastic job. The temperatures are great at 3000 ft in the summer months, fairways are like carpet, greens roll true and fast in the summer. The staff is some of the best I've dealt with, Steve is one of the friendliest guys in the business and is a pleasure to deal with. Olde Beau is super challenging with some fun holes, 17 and 18 can bring a high number so play them smart. And hole 14 is a short Par 3 and the #18 handicap...left is dead, right is dead, short is dead and long is in trouble....bring your A game you'll need it!

WOW, great outing
The course was in great shape and the greens were good but rolled around a 10. The course was not crowded but their was a worker that followed us around for the first four holes and it was very distracting. The course was very challenging but I would like to play it again.
WHY THE 73 % Rating ???
I almost didn't book this course for the 73% rating. However I'm glad I did. Greens Fairways and views of the mountains were very nice. I found the course to be challenging from the blue tees. The staff was very friendly and I can't see the low ratings. I will definitely drive back their from Charlotte to play soon
great weekend trip
This is an excellent course with the greatest views you will find on a golf course in this area.
We really enjoyed our weekend there, with one exception. We had a cooler stolen from outside of our room overnight. Cant blame our hosts for that, just kind of put a black eye on the trip.
We will be going again soon.
Beautiful course
I always enjoy making the trip up to Olde Beau. I have played hundreds of courses. This one is memorable--somewhere between The Ocean Course at Kiawah and Talking Stick in Scottsdale. However this one seems to be a secret. Honestly I would like to keep it that way but the staff are so nice they deserve some advertising. That being said I am hoping next time I play the pace of play is what I seek; i.e., I could play 18 in 2.5 hrs or 3 and take my time to soak in the scenery.
The course is beautiful but........
The views are great. Course conditions were good. That said, this is target golf to the extreme. The course is extremely hilly and the last three holes are almost ridiculously tricked up. There were not many golfers on the course on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Glad I played it but I'm one and done.
Not what it use to be.
We drive form Greensboro to play this course a few times a year. However, the last two times we have played it, the fairways and greens are not what they use to be. It's worth $35, but not $55 or more. The fairways have different types of grass and are thin in a lot of areas. At that altitude, most courses are consistently fescue and plush. the greens are bent and should do well again at the altitude, but they are eat up with some type of fungus. It has been that way the last two trips which were months apart. We love the vistas and scenery, but the golf is not what it use to be.
Great golf experience
Olde Beau is golf like you have never played before. Not an easy course, with many elevation changes. A totally unique golf experience. It is a must try golf course.
Interesting Course Needs a Little TLC.
I was disappointed. The pro shop was understaffed. The tee boxes didn't identify the hole number. The overall signage was poor; creating a frustrating experience going from green to tee. There was no overall course diagram available on scorecard or in the cart. Forget cell phone coverage here, so there was no chance to go to the Internet or use an app. Many parts of the cart path were crumbling away...and this is on some steep paths! On the positive, the greens were challenging and the topography was fun. This is not a boring course. I saw that the clubhouse, course, and many lots were being auctioned off. With a little care, this would be everything it looks like online.
