Riverside Golf Course challenges and delights players of all skill levels with its mature trees and scenic water hazards. Its convenient location, five minutes from downtown Austin and 10 minutes from the airport, makes it a serene escape without having to leave the city.
Getting there : From Austin, take IH-35 south to Riverside Drive. Go east on Riverside Drive 2.2 miles to Grove Blvd. and turn left. The course entrance is to the left before the community college.

water features
Because it rained on 07/07/2018 when we played on 07/08/2018 it was wet and or muddy in several bunkers across the course. Otherwise the course is in very good condition. The reason not excellent there are a handful of greens that are just bad. An example is #3. the fringe is bad all around the green. All the tee boxes were in good condition minus just one that had rain related damage from the day before. Failrways were excellent except for 4. 4 now has a water hazard to the right of the green but it should be gone by the endof the week.
Play Riverside
I hadn’t played Riverside in a long time. Really enjoyed myself. The staff was extremely friendly. The corse was in great shape. A couple of the usual suspect greens had their problem spots but the maintenance crew seemed to be aware and placed pins where the greens were great. Ifyouhavent played Riverside in some time I recommend you give it a chance.
not bad for compared to a year ago
The course was in better shape that a year ago. you could define the Fairways versus the Rough. Greens 14 of the 18 greens are in good shape the other 4 still have bald spots and fungs, but playable.
This course needs a lot of care done to it
Just about all the greens have big bare spots. The fairways also has bare spots all over.
Great Starter Course
I liked the layout, greens needed some work, but enjoyed playing it
A Shame
Too bad this course has been taken so far from what it was during the Austin Country Club days. A lot of holes have been really monkeyed with, but several holes show glimpses of what the course used to be. The back nine is particularly undisturbed. If you’re a Perry Maxwell fan, it’s definitely worth the small greens fee (I paid $22 to walk 18 on a Thursday afternoon) to see what used to be.
Great course
Really a cool layout and not too much money. Not to busy during the week and you move at your own pace. Greens are looking really nice.
Stay away after heavy rain!
The course has come a long way the last few years. I enjoy playing out there. However, playing after a storm has just come through was a bad idea. Lots of trash and debris unfortunately was strung along the course. Not the easiest thing to deal with and nothing could have been done playing the day after it happened. Regardless the course is fun and the staff is amazing.
Sub-Par Quality
Had a good time, but $40? Maybe $25 worth. Some greens were very poor. The course needs better maintenance. Maybe 2 or 2.5 stars.
Excellent muni
Was in town and wanted to play somewhere historic and unique, plus value for the money. Was not disappointed. Great layout, course in decent condition for mid-March.
Fun Course
It is a fun course. Not extremely challenging, but interesting layout and very friendly folks.
Ok
Ok value for money. Bad time of year Im sure for the grass as some greens were a quarter dead. 3 star for convenience.
Good muni course for the area
I was in town for a conference and saw this course for a morning round before leaving town. The course has a lot of history behind it and thought it had some good holes and some that were not. Since the community college came in they had to reroute the course and the first few holes are not really as standard as most courses. First hole is a par 3 and the ninth hole is not close to the clubhouse. Suggest bringing your own food and drink since you don not really have a place at the turn to get something for drink and eat. 5th hole par 3 was the most picturesque of the course. If you are looking for a real challenge, I suggest some other courses in the area. If you want a fun open space golf course this is the place. I believe it plays to a par 70 and not a 71 as the 18 hole is just over 420 and the card says it is a par 5 but to me played to a par 4. Greens for the most part were in good shape with a few that need work.
Great value!!
Had a great time with friends. Hope you are not in them but the bunkers were in amazing shape. Fairways were awesome!!! Great rate of play on the course. I will be back soon.
Glad I gave Riverside another shot
I had banished Riverside to the end of the bench in Austin after a round a few years back when conditions were rough to say the least.
But when looking for a place to play last-minute, my golf buddy recommended giving Riverside another look, and I'm glad he did. Once home to famed Austin Country Club, Riverside is now a "muni-grade" course owned by Austin Community College. The good news is that the tee sheet, at least for the time being, is far more open than Clay-Kizer, Lions or Mo Willy (all of which can get really busy), so we zipped around Riverside in three hours. Conditions have certainly improved. Many greens have some wear around the edges but are otherwise rolling very nicely.
There are some awesome old-school holes here, and a few that aren't all that memorable (a result of rerouting when ACC campus was built). Like Lions, word around town is Ben Crenshaw has offered to restore the course back to former glory if ACC ever frees up the funding. What a blessing that would be to local golfers it were to ever happen.
If you can't find a tee time at the munis or are worried about the pace of play, definitely give Riverside a look. Right now, it seems they could certainly use a bump in play.

I still enjoy the course, despite the sometimes dodgy conditions. As for the Maxwell pedigree, there is a mix of holes sitting on their original footprint and others that, as you said, have been changed.
Current day 4 thru 12 and 15-18 sit in their original position although they are different numbers on the card than they were originally.
Current day 1, 3, and 14, use original green sites, but the holes have changed dramatically. 1 originally played from a tee next to the practice green and was a dogleg left par 4. 13 originally played from the current day 13 tee to current day 14 green, a dogleg right par 4. #3 was originally a long par 4, chopped off by the school and parking area, it's now a short par 3.
Today's 2nd hole is not original, which somewhat explains the long hike from 2 green to 3 tee since the original routing was compromised so much. A par 3 used to play from a tee box just behind current day #18, to a green just short of the current practice green. That hole is now the path from 18 to the parking lot, and the parking lot itself.
