Typical Pete Dye course. Disappointed that driving range was for irons only. Did not see chipping area or sand/bunker facility to practice. No water in cooler.
Not up to standard I expected of this caliber of course
Westin Mission Hills-Pete Dye Course
Challenging course with the layout of bunkers. Pin placements also made us work. Pace of play was good. For a resort course we find this a bit lacking in services. If you can get on at a discounted price the course is worth it.
Pete Dye course amenities
The course and staff are great but don’t forget to bring water and snacks. Even with the expensive green fee they don’t provide water. It blows my mind that in a desert, they can’t belly up and provide a 25 cent bottle of water. The beverage cart sells them for $3-$4. The snacks are crap. Just a bunch of sugar. How about some sandwiches for sale. IDK? I thought it was a resort course? Most public courses have better amenities. Won’t go back. Shame on you Westin.
A good day of golf
Conditions were great. Pace of play was reasonable. My playing partner was a great fellow. Typical of Pete Dye courses the "crown" greens had their challenges. Greens were a good pace and fair.
Westin Mission Hills-Pete Dye
This course was in great condition and has a good layout. Greens are undulating and a good challenge. Pace of play was good as it was not busy at all. Their higher prices likely contribute to this. I would be remiss to not mention that the pro shop staff were unfriendly, inattentive and unhelpful. A stark difference from the great staff at the WMH Gary Player course. When we finished up playing, one of the cart return staff were cleaning the other twosome's clubs. When the other fellow came to take our cart I tipped him generously and then he thanked us and left us with our clubs, uncleaned …wow!
Great but to much time waiting for the players infront
Enjoy this course however there is to much of a wait on the course. They are sending people out to close together. Also need to stress to players they don’t have to wait to tee off until the players infront of them are on the green except of course the par three. We had to wait 5 minutes or more on each tee box. Played another course did it have to wait but the tee times were 12 minutes apart. I think with the difficulty of this course the players need to be spread out more.
Play this course for the 1st time and was in great shape and a medium to hardcore's. This course had a lot of Waste bunkers and probably 5 to 6 lakes. Definitely would suggest as a good place to play in Palm Desert.
Enjoyable outing but...
Enjoyable day at Pete Dye course at Mission Hills. Excellent pace of play (3:45). Negatives — greens slow compared to Mission Hills Gary Player course and other courses in the area, and, bunkers missing rakes and the sand in some is very hard, bunker maintenance needed. Also, no ball washers.
