Great public course.
This is a great track. The risk, reward shots on the back nine are comparable to most private clubs and my friends who belong to those clubs have no hesitations playing here.
Nice setting, no range is not good for warm up
I have played San G many times. The reason I don't come back more often, is the front nines fairway grass is sporatic, dry/hardpan in many areas. Kind of a bummer as it looks like a cheap muni track in the front. Not cared for. I was in the fairway on dry hard pan and my buddy was 20 yards behind me in nice grass. What the heck?? Mgmnt needs to spend a little cash to bring up the grass standards. If so, I will be back, if not, see you next year
great layout mad greens
can't wait to play again and bring a big crew of guys so they can play and enjoy a great round of golf and cry over the greens
The course design is great!
The course design is great, but some areas needed attention. The greens were a little thin. The pro shop staff was not friendly or helpful at all. The staff in the restaurant was very pleasant, although the item ordered did not come as described.
We had a nice day golfing here. The weather was perfect and the course is challenging and fun, with many holes with unusual fairways.
Great condition and pace of play
We played on Sunday and the course was in great condition. Greens are great. The pace of play was perfect, we didn't wait on any shot.. What a Dream !
Great experience - even with crowds on 4th of July weekend
My buddy and I played this course for the first time the day after the 4th of July. It was in excellent shape; pace of play was slow, which we expected on a holiday weekend. Tee boxes, greens and fairways looked nice. All around a good experience and a great value. I'll definitely come back here to play.
Back 9 Great - Front a little boring...
Love the back 9 at this course - the front needs some love though... It's an old tired track w/ not much to challenge you. I always like playing here regardless!!
Nice course for the money
The course was in good shape. The layout is fun and not too difficult. My drives were not going straight at all, but I was able to recover most shot and even had a few good looks at the greens from the wrong fairway. The staff is amazing, and I can't say anything but the best about them. The starter was helpful and not rude like some other courses' starters can be. The pace wasn't great, but not the courses fault. There were 2 foursomes in front of my twosome. Benches are provided and always give a nice view. The scenery was also great, with no distracting noises like highways or airports nearby. Overall, a great course for the money.
Challenging course, with beautiful natural Marin scenery. Pace of play was slow due to an early morning five-some being allowed to play.
I love this course, but playing on Saturday morning was much too slow. I saw a five-some tee off, and the remaining foursomes were all backed up. Round took us over five hours.
Great setting ,rural course ,great views
Nice break from City courses. Fairly remote in west Marin county. Course has no driving range ,but has a good putting /chipping green.,and 100 yard uphill green for practing approach shots.
Can be windy ,as you are in a valley that leads out to the Pacific Ocean. A few interesting hole(s) #'s 6-7-8- 11.
Would not beat down a door to play here ,but nice change of pace in a course set in basically a woodland meadow.
San Geronimo
San Geronimo was a quiet and generally nice course to play. The course itself did harbor some tricky situations. On some holes you have to hit your tee shot over a creek, around a big tree, to fairways that end with no green in sight & over a big hill right in front of you with no clue of what's on the other side. There were many interesting green complexes that were elevated and tiered. There are a number of holes that could be "signature" holes on this course.
Local knowledge goes a long way here. I had played the course once before and was paired up with regulars who gave me a great tour. This time it was almost 4 years later & I played alone. I did forget where I needed to place the tee shot and paid the price more than once.
Despite a few raised tee boxes & greens, the course is pretty flat. That said the 10th has you hitting down onto the fairway from about 5 stories up. The fairways are not hilly. So you almost always have a flat lie in the fairway. Water comes into play on a few holes. All the par 3s are straight forward and mostly hazard free. The sand is pretty dirty and brown & bunkers will become mud pits after rain.
I enjoyed my round at San Geronimo, but I think the course has seen better days. The fairways were pretty brown & the tee boxes were pretty beat and uneven. The greens rolled true, but they rolled kinda slow and didn't speed up too much closer to noon. I left many putts on the front 9 short and well high of the hole.
I can't bring myself to give it 4 stars. I really like the interesting holes, but the conditions were a bit average. I think it might be a bit of a personal preference thing. I can see why some golfers would really love this place. It just didn't click with me.
Superb Course / Great Value!
San Geronimo is such a beautiful place to spend a day playing golf. The course and greens were in superb shape, and we finished our round in just under four hours. Love this place!
Fast Fairways and tricky greens
You can get there from here, but when you arrive, the course's teeth BITE and i mean HARD! If you don't play here regularly and learn the breaks, these greens will grab at least a 1/2 stroke per hole on average from your back pocket! I swear some broke uphiLLLLLLL!!!!!!
Yep, playing on Monday when the Sunday pins are still in... OUCH!
very stiff rules, and no team coordination
If you booked on hot deals, don't be too early. They have very strict rules on making people wait until its their time, I had to wait 40m and I was only a single. Which they could have very easily squeeze me in any of the groups, but I had to wait. The course however presented reasonable challenges for first timers and newbies, there are very slow golfers (beginners). I can imagine weekends can be over 6 hour rounds at best, or longer.
Course was in great shape and staff was very friendly.
Course was in great shape and staff was very friendly.
An otherwise OK course ruined by the two old creeps working in the clubhouse.
Two of us both made the same comment. What the?? We are well dressed single digit handicappers who play twice a week, and both gentlemen in the clubhouse acted as if it was a personal affront to them to even be on the same room with us, much less actually take our money and check us in. We were thirty minutes before our tee time. This was Thursday around 9:30. We left there shaking our heads because they were so obnoxious. Never seen anything like it in 35 years of playing, probably 1000 rounds.
Fun track
Challenging course for the average to good golfer. Amazing views. A really fun track.
front nine unplayable waste of money//
this was a disaster, we started on the 10th hole the first par 3 had a lawnmower parked right down the center of the fairway then we moved to the front 9 where 5 of the 9 greens we,re being torn up making these holes unplayable hole 7 had no green at all, either golf now or san Geronimo should notify players at the time of booking that you can only play 12 of the 18 holes. a terrible experience and I feel someone should credit our credit card we paid for 18 holes not 12. A miserable experience
Beautiful course with challenging greens
The course lays in the midst of beautiful scenery, especially the back nine where it feels like you are in Scotland (well almost). The course is not easy, the greens can be challenging and the layout has clever hazards. Watch out for those balls, you might loose some if you are not paying attention. Would recommend this course for all golfers looking for a little challenge.
Nothing Spectacular
Forgiving the fact that the greens had just be done and were bumpy, the course is just average. I hated the packed sand in the bunkers too.
