Peacock Gap Golf Club

I played golf in Northern California for over 50 years, but somehow it never made it out to Peacock Gap… and after playing there I’m so bummed that I haven’t been here before. The course is wonderfully situated in a pleasant valley and the routing couldn’t be better. The practice area is better than most country clubs and the course conditions were pleasantly surprising with the greens being as pure as anything I’ve played in awhile.

Staff both on the course and in the restaurant could not have been better… and I can’t wait to come back.

Fairly designed and maintained course.

One of the better public course in Marin!

An easy course to walk as it's flat and not too far from green to next tee. The layout is challenging with dog leg fairway, penalty areas on the sides and some you must hit over, plenty of fairway to aim at and play around and many greenside bunkers with adequate sand. The challenging greens are undulating with raised fronts and sides. The grass on the greens is very good but the same cannot be said of the fairways which are the only downside of the course. The grass growth on the fairways is not good even down the middle and there are some weeds growing around the greens, but not too bad. If you don't mind bumping your ball in the fairway and onto grass, or like the challenge of hitting from dirt patches and thin lies frequently, then this is a very challenging and otherwise well maintained course.

Play this course pretty often. Peacock is always a good option especially hanging with friends, making new ones, grabbing drinks or if you just wanna hang out at the Range café. Pace of play varies based on the time of day/ day of the week., I typically play on Fridays and Saturdays, but even then can manage to get through 18 holes within 4 to 4 1/2 hours.

Fairways and tee boxes definitely need attention. Greens were good but soft and bunkering was good. Par threes were the best holes on the course.

For a flat course, the layout is challenging with the many bunkers and undulating greens, especially playing in the afternoon wind. However, the fairways lacked sufficient grass with the ball often settling on hardpan and dirt between patches of thin grass. The greens were decent but 5 ft slower than the speedy practice green and a bit bumpy. Maybe it was just the grass growth in the late afternoon. Improve the fairway grass coverage and the course will be fine.

The course layout is great for walkers or riders. It's kept in great shape.

But more importantly the staff members are terrific--friendly, welcoming and efficient.

It all makes for a great golfing experience.
