Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Course
Enjoy quality of the course
Each green was true to the read and roll was smooth
One of the course in my top 5 locally
Great Fathers Day Round!
Awesome day at Avery Ranch. We started on the back nine for some odd reason but the pace of play was fantastic. We tee'd off in the morning around 9:30. We wish the grill was open but understand with all that's going on why they can't.
Excellent facility and staff!
We could easily tell the facility was extremely busy but the staff at Avery was over the top professional. Carts were very clean and available, staff was super friendly and accommodating, pace was right at 4 hours 20 minutes which for how busy they were we felt was really good. We never really waited. We play here once and a while and can see some great stuff happening in how the place runs. We recommend this course!!!
Avid Golfer
Avery never disappoints. Course was in great shape as were the greens. Have played Avery many times and it’s very challenging but I always go back for more. Maybe someday I’ll conquer it. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. Great golf experience.
Great course, but....
The only negative are the greens. You think you got a right edge of cup putt....and then it breaks an entire foot. This happened 3 times. I played with a guy who plays there a lot, and he concurred that the green reads were extra difficult to impossible.
Forced to ride with stranger - COVID19
Starter let me know right before teeing off that the course has a policy that only people over 65 or with an underlying condition can have a cart to themselves. This is absurd, and they tried to force me to ride with a stranger and return my cart as I pulled into the first tee. This is NOT ok. If you're going to enforce these policies, and promote social distancing in the clubhouse and restaurant, you need to let guests know. I've never been forced to join a stranger's cart under any circumstances, especially during COVID-19. This created a huge argument on the first hole. The starter needs to be informed of the guidelines and needs to treat guests with more respect. I would expect this from a cheap municipal course, not from a semi-private club. Cancelled my team time the following day and will never play here again. It's not worth the hassle or the 5+ hour round.
Challenging
This course is very fun and challenging. However green is like carpet .
Slow Pace of Play
If don't mind playing 5 hour plus rounds, this Is the place to be. The only good thing about my round was that it was an Golf Now Hot Deal. If it wasn't for that great price I would pay $90 to play here. I hope that they will fix the slow play so that more folks could enjoy their round of golf.
Pace of play was awful. invest in a starter.
The pace of play was unacceptable. they had a full tee sheet but i saw atleast 5or 6 5 somes way to many 2 somes. they need to invest in a started that patrols pace of play and monitor group to make sure they are not playing 5 somes. there should be no reason why there are multiple 2 somes on a busy day like yesterday.
Favorite challenge in Austin
This Is pretty much as good as it gets for public courses in the Austin area . Picturesque from the tee boxes, and a great layout, not to mention the wildlife; a few deer just prancing around. The beauty is almost distracting and then you realize you have to bomb your drive straight over the ravine and between the tree lines fairways. First time playing it from the tips and it was a blast. Luckily I finally worked out the kinks in my 3 wood because it came in handy.
The only thing I docked for is the green conditions. They look great but they were a smidge slower than what I know they should be.
Mark my words, someday I’m going to par the number 1 handicap, par 5, dogleg left. Until then, I’ll try to forget the splashing sound from my approach shot.
Not worth it
For the price, the course is in poor condition. Every tee box was basically like teeing off in a bunker. Heavily sanded with very little grass. The greens were ok, but bumpy and filled with ball marks. Bunkers had very little sand. they must have used it all on the tees.
