Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.

The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.

No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.

Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Over rated

Pace of play was very slow

The course is pretty but is built around bunkers, they are all hard and rocky. Will not be back.

One to remember

As always the course was in great shape. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even though my final score of 79 was a bit higher than normal. I did manage to sink my first ever hole in one on the par three 17th hole from 149 yards!!!!! Most definitely not a round that will soon be forgotten!

Club house/cafe closed at 1830HRS in AUG...

The only real negative was that the clubhouse was locked up and closed when we finished at 1830RS, and this was in August. We wanted to get a cold beverage.

Twilight Golf

Had a great time on the front nine, but when we made the turn, it was like a flood gate of people just randomly came on the back nine. We only played 4 holes on the back because there were so many people. As we drove off toward the clubhouse i started counting the number of people on the back and gave up when I got over 40.

slow play is a real turnoff

The round would have taken 51/2-6 hours if we had finished. As it was we left after 15 holes at 4/1/2 hours on the course. I say the marshal twice on the course but I could not get any sense that he was making any effort to speed play along. Too many people are not playing golf because of the type of round I experienced on Saturday. Don't have a marshal if you are not going to enforce the pace of play.

Greens looking good

We have had a lot of rain so far this year and the greensand fairways are looking pretty good. The cost of Avery has really gone up and they dont apparently give you any range balls to warm up. You have to pay for them. Pace of play was not bad, We had to wait a couple times on the group in front of us but most of the round was not too much waiting.

Fun Course But Pricey

I'm a new golfer and had a lot of fun at Avery Ranch. Challenging but not too hard. Pace of play was good and you can tell the staff prides themselves on keeping things moving.

Only major con was the price. Not just the green fee but the drink prices were crazy. In the future, I might only play this course if I can get a deal. Which is a shame, because I live down the street and would go here all the time if the prices were even somewhat reasonable

Bunkers were rough, untreated & there was no hot food ready

Course is nice and tough, but not worth the price with the current bunker conditions and two sand greens.

Good course

Paid over $100 for a 1:48pm tee time. Wild what prices have gotten to but Avery Ranch is a solid course. Nothing spectacular but greens were very good.

Bunkers unplyable

Course layout is nice, greens in decent condition other than 3 or so that had been punched. But what ruined the round was absolutely unplayable bunkers. No sand, mostly mud. You would have had to rake a spot and place you ball in it to get a poor lie. They have never beed even average, but right now just play as ground under repair.

Better than expected

I hadn't played Avery in at least 8 months but was pleasantly surprised with the good course conditions. Greens were in really decent shape and rolled smooth. Very different from when I last played here and they were terrible.

Overall, nice round with decent pace of play (4.5 hours). The course is overpriced but had a nice Sunday with solid conditions.

Still love the course, but too pricey

10 years ago I used to play Avery Ranch 1-2 times a month for no more than $80 on the weekend. The only reason I don’t play it more is it’s now $130. The course was in great shape but the greens were very soggy (some puddles) on the first 3-4 holes from over watering. Once it dried out, the green were a little slower than I remembered. Pace of play wasn’t an issue as we had the 3rd tee time of the morning and finished in just under 4 hours. Staff was great, and I will be back, just not as much as I would like because of the price.

Boy Times Have Changed

This used to be a great course with a lively restaurant. 3 hours 20 min to play 11 holes and finally gave up. 9 min intervals between tee times and no Marshall. $75 to play at 4pm. $55 for a high school player. Greens were really slow and bumpy. Won’t be back. Not worth it and don’t have time for a 5 1/2 hour round
