Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Slow play on Sunday
5 hr round of golf on a Sunday other than that Awesome
Avoid
This course used to be a great place to go. Conditions have deteriorated despite the high fees. I also made a tee time, cancelled it according to their guidelines and they still charged my card. After respectfully calling the shop for 2 weeks they still refused to refund my money. The poor course conditions and lack of ethical behavior of the staff will keep me away from this course from now on. It's a shame the place is so poorly managed as it is a good layout. If you play there, don't give them a credit card number. They will charge you either way!
Great course
Great course and layout. Excellent condition. With 5 set of tees a challenge for all golfers.
Thank you so much for the 5 Stars. Glad to see you found the course to be in top condition. We hope you will be back to see us again soon!
Slow play ruined this round
This was the slowest round of golf I ever played at this course. They sold the golf now tee times behind a tournament and didn't do anything to speed up the pace of play. Basically the tournament was more important than any other groups playing that day! Next time I book a time at that course I will be sure to call them and make sure there is no tournament scheduled that day!
We apologize for the slow pace of play that you experienced a few months back when golfing at Avery Ranch.
Beautiful xourse
Avery Ranch was in pristine shape. Every green was near perfect. There had been a couple of days of rain prior so we were on cart path only which slowed the pace of play considerably. Other than that I thought the round was super. The course was in the best condition of any course I've played in the Austin area.
Thank you for the 5 Stars! We appreciate all the great feedback. We apologize that the pace of play was a bit slow, but the rain got us that day! Hoping to have you back soon!
Perfect Greens, Fun Course
The course is beautiful. The neighborhood does not interfere. All cuts are done well and the greens are immaculate. Even the deer roaming around the front 9 patiently wait to snack on berry bushes as you pass. Other the the overtly, rude starter which made for an odd start to the round, we were treated to a special noon rate with a swift pace of play. The back 9 plays faster. The 19th hole has very reasonable pricing on food and drinks. I will be back.
Great condition
It was great weather and course but my score was terrible.
Good course, but very slow pace of play
The Avery Ranch course is a fun, challenging but fair layout. It's normally in good condition, expect any big rain storms the course does not drain fast and there's tons of concrete around the area. I love the location in North Austin. The reason I cannot rate this course higher is because I have not played under 5 hours the last 10 times I've played it. One round was 5 hours, 40 minutes. The management gives me the impression it's all about the money. They do a lot of rounds and need stricter marshals pushing people along to play ready golf. I personally hate slow golf (maybe unless I'm playing Pebble Beach or a course like that) so I'd rather play at a city course for a third the price and expect slow golf. I'd recommend trying the course on a week day morning and maybe it's not as bad.
Beautiful Course - hot day
Great looking course - right price
Good value...
Good test of golf skills on a well designed and picturesque layout. Must ride due to length between greens and tees is long. Excellent condition of the course. Will certainly play again.
AVR
Tee boxes were excellent, fairways were all good as well. Only one or two greens had dirt showing. Overall very well maintained course. The could use more water juggs around the course.
Poor Greens
I have played Avery Ranch over 20 times. Love the layout of the course (many dog leg lefts). I understand that we have had a bunch of rain over the past few months, but other golf courses have done a much much better job with course maintenance.
The last time I played here the greens had just been punched. Disappointed that I was not alerted of this before paying and playing, I came back out months later thinking they would be in impeccable shape. They were not even close. The greens were very bumpy, still had water on some greens, and every cup looked as if they had been punched months ago. Every lip was worn out.
I may not be coming back for awhile.
Nice layout
Played in 5.5 hours starting at 2:15. Tournament went right before us. Pace of play was horrible with twosomes, threesomes, and foursomes staggered after the tournament.
perfect value
a wonderful course for the money! greens and fairways were perfect, only the bunkers are almost unplayable, but okay, there was a lot of rain!
course setup is really nice, i like the mixture of long and short holes!
the down point is the clubhouse, no people in there, closing very early (did not get a beer at 7.30pm...)
other than that this is a must play in austin!!!
Great shape, but....
Not sure what the problem was last Sunday. The course was in great shape but we waited on each hole and finally were stacked up 3 groups deep on #6. We paid for 18 holes but only played 9 because the pace was so slow.
PLAYER BEWARE!
On 6/5/16 a friend and I visited your Avery Ranch Golf Club, and were very disappointed by the overall level of service we experienced. Let me first preface this by saying this Sunday was abnormally busy for the course. It was a beautiful day after a week of rain. Unfortunately the value of this course is completely lost when you experience what I experienced.
I have never had to take another person’s cart to make a tee time despite my playing partner arriving 45 minutes prior to our tee time. They did not have enough carts for the tee times they booked by a long shot, and it created havoc. The starter was completely unprepared, overwhelmed, and unprofessional.
Once we were able to finally get on the course it took us over 3 hours to finish 9 holes! I have played golf in central Texas my whole life, and even Lions isn’t that slow on a beautiful Sunday. We did not stay for the second nine because honestly it wasn’t worth the frustration the management of the course provided despite the fantastic weather and paying for all 18.
It is my opinion that the overbooking of this course was done intentionally, and potential golfers should be aware of this before booking what they think is a good value weekend greens fee. I truly do hope this was a onetime anomaly, and we were just unlucky. Unfortunately I will not be back to find out despite really enjoying the course itself, and the affordable player packages you provide. It was that bad.
Oh this is by design, their intention is to get your money and the you know what with you once you are on the course. Upscale courses do not smash tee times 7.5 minutes apart I have played courses that are way more upscale and I will be taking the drive to those courses from now on. 5 1/2 hours is a good pace on sat or sun, had the nerve to try and sell me a private membership as well dont think so!!!!
One of my favorite courses in the Austin area
I play a lot of courses in the area, but when it comes to taking clients out for a golf outing this is one of less than a handful of courses that I prefer to take them to.
Love this place
I am a very serious golfer who loves a course that will challenge me. I try and get out as much as I can but it works it self out to about once a week and if ion lucky twice here and there. The front nine at Avery Ranch is a lot of fun. There is so much character to each hole. I am always trying to battle the front nine knowing the back nine will give me a little relief from the tight fairways and perfect position play is required to play well. I love that 18 is not to easy from the golds. Long par 4 makes you work hard for a good finish. I had moved here to texas from buffalo NY, not knowing what to expect from Texas golf. I am so happy I live close to a great course .
Nice course with some challenges
The course has a nice layout and can be very challenging depending on wind direction. Well placed tee shots will help hold some of the sloping fairways and maximize rollout.
Good course but needs work
Good course but bunkers are unplayable. Most of them have too little sand. Golfers end up trying to hit out of the dirt. Same problem at Teravista. No accident that the same ownership group owns both courses?

Hi Vincent,
First off we would like to apologize for the slow pace of play you experienced when playing a few weeks ago. We hope that did not ruin your round! Hope to have you back at Avery Ranch soon!
