About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Great course
Love the layout, love the range, love the staff. Just expensive for my weekly play.
Play it Again!
It was a warm hot day. But Avery Ranch was still a cool drink. Challenging and enjoyable at the same time.

Slooooow
We’ve played here 2 times this past year… or should I say tried to play once and finished the round another. The first time we left because we playing at a 6+ hour pace and left. Our second round there we played in over 5. It’s painful. The course is kept in good condition. Layout is okay. Love the front but they were obviously running out of space when making the back. For the price it’s certainly not with it

Couldn’t play due to Covid.
I tested positive for Covid, tried cancelling but could not due to being slightly within the 24 hour window. I called the Avery Ranch pro shop to make them aware and was told the cancellation would have to be done on the Golf Now side. Please reimburse me for the round I was charged for due to circumstances that were beyond my control.

Hard thin fairways and greens
I am sorry Golfnow asked for a review. Otherwise I would not have but here goes. The range balls are old and worn out, not enough drinking water on the course. The fairways and greens are moist but hard. No sand or compost in the soil but mostly brown clay. Please add amendments to fairways and greens. I had not played here in awhile and now do not want to come back. The best part of yesterday was we played in 4 hours.

Not for me
The course layout was not for me, it includes many tight fairways and doesn't allow for creative shot making (at least at my skill level). My biggest issue was the driving range. Firstly, there is gravel behind the pads so to walk down to find an open stall you must walk in the gravel which i cant imagine is easy on the spikes. Secondly they have auto ball feeders which I was made to use. It is noisy, slow, and made my experience worse.

Avery Ranch round
I liked the course, I visited with a group of beginners and was concerned we would be the slow play group. 2 hours 20 minutes for the front 9. Not terrible when you consider we were keeping up with the group in front. The club house was nice and clean, We went to the bar afterwards it was okay, I just got that feeling the bar staff was ready to go home. No worries I get that, we’ll come back for sure.
Slow play, overpriced
It took over 5 hours to play, which is excessive compared to most times I've played here in the past. The cost was $98. Maybe they should leave some tee times open to help with the pace of play on the weekend. For the price at this course, you would think they would have a GPS on the cart, and more frequent beverage service. The GPS would have helped the guys we were playing with who never played the course before. They had to constantly look at their phones to see the hazards in front of us and figure out if they should lay up or not.
