About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Slow play, overpriced
It took over 5 hours to play, which is excessive compared to most times I've played here in the past. The cost was $98. Maybe they should leave some tee times open to help with the pace of play on the weekend. For the price at this course, you would think they would have a GPS on the cart, and more frequent beverage service. The GPS would have helped the guys we were playing with who never played the course before. They had to constantly look at their phones to see the hazards in front of us and figure out if they should lay up or not.

Slow play kills
5 and 1/2 hour round. Just not worth it on pretty much any course. Not the first time either. Too bad because the layout is nice. Enforce a 4 hour round and fall short at 4 and 1/2. It’s not that hard.

Avery is nice, but waaaay too slow!
I guess my review is similar to many others. Nice course, decent layout, but they book their tee times too close together. Played in a foursome behind two threesomes and in front of another threesome. 5 hours at mid morning (10am tee off), mid week is just not a great time. Waited on nearly every tee box. The good: Nice fairways, decent greens that will hold an approach shot. Interesting layout. The bad: the maintenance could use some help. Could be post covid lack of good employees. Lots of places just off the fairway are way overgrown. The bunkers were really bad. Even though we just had a pretty significant rainfall on Monday, no one from the crews had touched the bunkers. Too bad. Overall I like the course and it they would initiate some guidelines at the starters hut to keep play to 4 to 4.5 hours I think that would help a ton. Or just don't book the groups so close together!

Avery Ranch is average golf club!
practice area poor condition; no grass hit off mats, very crowded. No tee time available on the morning available to new members. The club house is nice if you have to wait! Service is friendly and does the best it can!

Decent Round
2nd time playing in very Windy Conditions. I was a single and was paired with a couple and one other gentlemen.
The only difficulty came when folks do not understand or know etiquette on the Golf Course. Other than that it was a pleasant round.

In rough shape
Course in worst condition I’ve seen it Greens very spotty and full of divots. They book it solid so likely over played.
Yep. They don’t care. Charge people more. Get the hackers out and fix the course.

Course Layout is great, needs to stop being overbooked.
Avery Ranch is a course I have played for about a decade. I have seen it in better shape, and also just more player friendly as it pertains to pace of play. Additionally, PLEASE keep the driving range on the Mats for good. The whole right side of the driving range does you no good, unless you are trying to practice with the ball significantly above or below your feet.
Public Golf is doing downhill, and fast.

Did not meet expectations
There is no water used around the course outside of the greens. Tee boxes were horrible, could not see fairways from rough. Everything so dry you could lose your ball after it landed in the middle of the fairway due to grass being non-existent.

Too slow pace
5 golfers played before our group. It held us every hole. We could not finish the 18th hole. I think they overbooked.

Challenging course
Avery Ranch is a difficult course. Hills and narrow fairways lead to some small greens. You can use every club in your bag. Hazards are not visible in many cases when your hitting. Even having played the course before I could not pick out the edges of the hazards. Very well maintained and good practice facilities. The greens had some issues with different grasses growing.

Break track just wish they took better care of the fairways
This has always been a great track but it seems over the years their ability to keep the maintenance up with the amount of people they have playing the course has declined. The greens are always in above average condition but there are too many places on the fairway that are not maintained well. Specifically too much hard pan for a course of the status even considering winter conditions. They need to take a look at how nice Star Ranch keeps their fairways. This is a beautiful golf course but again they need to start putting more money back into the maintenance of the fairways.

Plan on at least 5 hours
The golf course is fun to play and very challenging, however they over pack to course every day. I have played 4 times in the last 1.5 months and ALL 4 times was between 5 and 5 1/2 hours, 3 times was mid week. Driving range is packed with families sharing buckets. I can’t believe they allow walking when it is so busy. It seems Samsung must give a lot of days off and buys memberships! #suckthefunoutofgolf
