White Heron Golf Club

About
White Heron Golf Club (formerly known as Ridgewood Lakes Golf Club) has had many accolades over its history and for good reason. The Ted McAnlis layout is sculptured from lush rolling land and features immaculate playing conditions year round. Water and natural wetlands come into play on 16 of our 18 holes and the resident breeze can significantly change the course from day to day. Yet despite the natural beauty and obvious pedigree of the layout, with four sets of tees the course is still enjoyable for golfers of all levels.

10th Tee Box Photo submitted by chadone75 on 07/05/2015
Great layout...
I enjoy this course...BUT...the conditions right now leave a lot to be desired. Tee boxes and some fairways was more dirt than grass. The greens were actually pretty good! I know we get a lot of rain in the afternoon and all the courses handle the rain better than others. I hope they keep making improvements, we like playing there and I am certain we will be back.
Not sure how this course gets high ratings.
This course looks and felt like it was abandoned 2 years ago. I was first surprised to learn that there were no cart girl which I would definitely prefer in the hot summer months for mid round refreshments. The course was in terrible shape. Grass of all different heights throughout and the tee boxes were in shambles. The bathrooms on the course had no light fixtures and the sink didn’t even turn on. There were no trashbags throughout the course and by the looks of it on the hole with the bridge trash has been collecting in the railing for sometime. Lost several balls because of random holes and tall grass patches in the fairways which was disappointing for a fairway hit. The best part of the round was the end because the man who helped us clean our clubs and load them was very personable. It’s sad because it has such high potential and if it was in good shape would definitely be a great course to play. It is definitely challenging as well so I enjoyed that aspect of the round.
Apparel
No men type hats, shirts, etc..
Seems like a woman ordered all, merchandise in Pro Shop.
Going down
Very disappointed. Played this course many times over the years and the conditions vary considerably. Currently. Tee boxes are in very bad shape to unplayable. Fairways bad to very bad. Some maybe 50% no grass. Greens were ok. Won't go back till conditions greatly improve.

Thank you for playing White Heron Golf Club. We are working everyday to improve the conditions during our maintenance season. Being a golf course with 20 bodies of water when .we get has much rain as we have lately it is a herculean task to mow, fertilize, and maintain a pristine course. That is why are rates are reduced and we tell every player about the conditions. I do have to disagree with your assessment of our fairways though, they are very good.
We take opinions seriously and hope your next visit will be more enjoyable.
Thank you, WHGC
Was a good course
Don’t know what happened, but course has taken a turn for the worse. Weed, bug, bare areas, bad tees. Greens in decent shape, but rest of course is failing. Very wet as well, but that’s to be expected since it’s the rainy season.

Thank you for playing White Heron Golf Club, please review the comments previously as it will address your concerns. When we inform players that it is very wet, we mean very wet. I don't understand why players are surprised when they play a FL course. We have reduced our rates so Fl. residents have a break from paying the high in season prices, everyone can enjoy themselves without breaking the bank. This is a Championship Golf Course and one of the toughest challenges in Central Fl.
Please try us again in the future and you can always contact us direct with your issues.
Thank you, WHGC
Challenging front 9!
Fun tight course! Bring your A game and hit them straight

Bring your A game is right. Thank you for your comments and for playing White Heron Golf Club. It is especially challenging during these very wet days.
Hope to see you soon, WHGC
Mayb because it’s summer
Mayb because it’s Summertime but the Cranes are doing a number on the course. Greens are in good shape sandtraps are hard not sandy and the rough is not good and there are lots of places where there isn’t any grass it was in better shape a month ago

Thank you for playing White Heron Golf Club. We appreciate your comments on the course, it helps us improve.
During these hot months we are keeping up with maintenance and course changes so that we can bring a better product throughout the year, that is why the rate is so low, but it is still one of Central FL. great layout. The cranes do love it out here along with all of the other wildlife do to the fact we have an abundant amount of water and areas for breeding.
Hope to see you soon

Touugh course
Really enjoyed my round. You have to be accurate with the amount of water on the course.Green were excelent and ran true fairways were decent but think the tee blocks could do with some attention. But all in all great value for money & well worth a visit!!!

Thank you for playing White Heron John and thank you for the honest review. We work hard everyday to bring the players a great product and it is an ongoing challenge. We appreciate the constructive criticism as it only makes us better.
Once again Thank you, WHGC
Worst Course Ive Played
Probably the worst course I've ever played! Grass have not been cut in a long time. Fairway were over grown, tee boxes all dirt, green haven't been cut and rough was all dirt and overgrown. Maintenance around the course was terrible. I will never play this course again.

I don't know what golf course you played, but it certainly wasn't White Heron. There is not one truth to this review, especially when you give our staff a poor rating, now I know this review is bogus.
Hope you have a better day.
How far has you fallen
Played this course in January of this year and was impressed. Thought why not go back, well let me just say if you come here you will be highly disappointed. Course is overgrown, tee boxes have not been mowed and are super soft. Fairways have not been mowed in a minute, maybe due to the rain but weeds throughout. Bunkers have not been up kept. Practice facilities are basically non existent anymore. WOW just WOW how far this place has been let go! Won’t make the mistake again

Glad you need to come on and try to bash me on the internet. Shot 74 gave you and honest review and yes you did have a great short game facility. If you would like to be honest and show people the weeds in the middle of the practice facility I may be forgiving. Until then not so much!

You must have had a bad round so you took it out on the course, false statements and comments. We have the best short game and practice area of any Public Course in Central Fl.
so I have no idea what you mean with your comments. Let's see the comment before you said no grass on the tees and your saying tee boxes not mowed, you can't have both, bunkers are raked every day sorry you were in them all day. I think you were all part of the same group, so have a nice day.
Course lives up to its name
Lots of birds which is a plus for me as an avid birder (list later)
Some spots on the course could be better particularly the greens but not bad for mid-summer in FL - overall well worth the price - Great staff and course was wide open
BIRDLIST: Little blue Herron, Ibis, great blue Herron, cattle egret, mockingbird, red tailed hawk (on the 150 yd marker on #13) anhinga, crows of course and probably a few more I forgot
Challenging layout
Challenging layout, particularly the front nine and holes 10 and 11. Longer hitters beware some blind hazards and hidden trouble spots.
Greens mostly true and fairly quick, but several had weeds and a few bad spots.
Yardages, ratings and slope on the scorecard do not match the GHIN app for any of the different tees - not sure which is correct.
Friendly staff, but no beverage cart.

Thank you for the 4 stars and honest feedback. We are currently working on the above issues you brought up and hope the next time you'll see an improvement. The scorecard and cart GPS is the correct rating, sometimes depending on maintenance the tee markers could be out of place, next time just refer to the GPS that will give you the true yardage.
Thank you, WHGC
We have had an enormous amount of rain lately that it's a miracle we can still open. It is so obvious that when the golf course is this wet we cannot keep on our daily mowing schedule, again like we've said before we are discounting the price due to the wet conditions,
Today we have no restrictions and are drying out nicely. There was rain damage in one ladies room, not bathrooms. There is no tall grass in the fairways, that is called the rough and yes we have different heights of grass: Greens, collars, rough, fairway, waste areas. Every hole has a trash receptacle. Again just have fun.
