breakfast was included in the price
A breakfast buffet that is normally $16 was included and i only paid around $30 for the round.
crouse overall good
course overall good greens in very good shape fairways need work and tee boxes. Need to work on overall condition
Course needs attention before I return.
Fairways are the biggest problem, lots of work needed. I do like the layout and various lies.
Recommended with cliff notes.
The way of golf courses now days seems to be 'let it go soo bad you have to reduce rates' to get players out on the course. And most players who play cheap tracks do not really help to repair ball marks and such. This appears to be what has happened to "Double Tree" Carmel Highland Resort. Everything about the course is just shabby- especially the practice areas and the fairways. The greens are about the only place that plays well. It could be a great track with some effort and attention. And they need marshalls out watching and enforcing players to stop abuse on the course.
Acceptable overall
I have always liked this course even though the fairways tend to run left and right from the middle. The fairways are currently a bit on the thin side, but the greens are in good condition. The Pro shop personnel are friendly and make a effort to be flexible. This course, as most of the public courses now, are being as conservative as possible with water, making non-landing areas on the brown side..
This course has some long holes .
This course is one where you dont lose too many balls.Has some long holes to break out that driver.Lots of hills and slopes, good deal for the price.Friendly staff.
Challenging uneven lies.
Eric in the pro shop was extremely nice and helpful. The course has apparently been bought & in the process of being restored to better condition. There are quite a few dry patches with no grass in areas. Even though it isn't in the best shape that it could be we still had a great round and enjoyed the challenges of the course.
the course has fallen into little maintenance. no driving range.
The course is not maintained very well. lots of dirt patches in the middle of the fairway etc. Never bothered to change out any of the signs from when it was owned by the doubletree. So, obviously very little money invested in the course.
Slow pace
4.5 hrs on a cart on a course I can shoot in the 70s. No rangers to help. Conditions are the top 3 worse I've seen in my 22 years of playing.
Great Course
Outstanding experience! Will play again and tell more friends about this course.
The course has great potential
I gave this course two stars only because the course needs some TLC. The staff was friendly and helpful. For a Double Tree resort and spa, I expected better. I stopped at the snack house after playing nine holes to buy a hot dog and the attendant said that they were all sold out. This was at 10:30 in the morning!!! I doubt they had any to begin with. The fairway's looked neglected and were not manicured very well at all nor were the greens. Like I mentioned before,TLC...
Needs some attention
Close to home, but needs work on the fairway too dry with lots of dirt where grass should be. Also pond is dry and smells bad, price great due to sanded greens.
The greens were recently aerated and putting was unenjoyable.
The greens were recently aerated an putting was unenjoyable.
Was not informed of the aeration when making the reservation.
Course needs a lot of attention. Had to hit some shots from bare spots on the fairway.
Major issues
Upon arriving to the golf course I was greeted by a very unfriendly pro shop employee. Was force to tee off in the middle of the 1st fairway because there was a wedding on the 1st tee(which occasionally happens and no big deal). I was playing as a single and was able to tee off ahead of a foursome. I arrived to the first green to find the green completely aerated. Basically unplayable. There was never a course alert on golfnow nor did the pro shop tell me before hand. The course has numerous dead spots where it is unplayable. Bunkers have no sand, fairway and rough barely had any grass. Only positive was a cart attendant came and grab me and told me the back nine was clear so he ushered me there and then was able to play the rest of the front nine later to make it a necessary speedy round.
Hit straight. Avoid bunkers.
The course is laid out along a valley so almost all holes have some tilt toward the highway. Stay down the high side of the fairways and you'll be fine. The bunkers are essentially hardpan so bring a wedge with little bounce. Mulligans has decent food and drink priced reasonably as well.
second time playing in these course have a good time with a friends
the course needs lots attention in the fairways the greens are ok. other than that have a great time
Average Value
The course conditions are probably as bad as they get in San Diego - it needs serious attention. IMO, they need to cut down most of their pine trees because the needles kill off the grass. Their sand traps are more like "hard packed native dirt" traps. Fairways are usually brown or chunky. Nevertheless, the track is good (also not too difficult) and there is demand for cheap golf in San Diego. For $20 a round, it is a decent value, but anything above that price and you will feel ripped off. They do keep their ball washers nice and full with soapy water, but bring your own towel because they won't have any!
Fun course, needs some work
Fun design with some easier holes and few tough ones. All in all, a reasonable challenge. Greens are in good shape, but sand traps are very poor. It's like hitting off hard-pan. Fairways need some attention in bare areas.
decent at best
The course is not as well kept as I thought it would be after changing from double tree to carmel highland. I thought they would have spruced up the place a little but it's actually worse. Sorry. I would play there again but it's a little pricey for What you get.
Course need work
I know times are tough, but having to play winter rules in September. There were at least 9 holes where a perfect drive put you either on Hard Pan, or no grass at all in the fairways. Greens were in good shape.
