They've let the course go to ruin.
I've played this course dozens of times over the past six years. This last year, I can say that it is the worst kept course I've ever played on, private or public. There are numerous areas throughout the fairways with no grass or weeds at all - just dirt. The grass is sparse and the weeds are rampant. The crabgrass in encroaching on most greens. I can't imagine booking a Hilton resort vacation in such a beautiful destination as San Diego and encounter such a sorry course.
The fairways were horrible.
The fairways were horrible, that's being nice. The greens were actually pretty good... no complaints there. No marshalls to be seen... we had to pass two foursomes with some difficulty (they didn't realize that they were several holes behind).
Wouldn't go back again.
Course does not seem to be cared and maintained. Staff so terrible.
this course is dry rocky dead and needs serious help
for the past 5 years this course has been nothing but a goat field to play on. the hazards such as the bunkers are mostly dirt with large rocks instead of sand. the grass around the trees never seems to get mowed and the leaves never seem to get picked up they just seem to blow them a round . it is very difficult to distinguish the difference between the fairways and the rough. this place has one of the worst Golf Course maintenance crews .I would never recommend this course to anyone ever it is such a dump .
Stay away...
Stay far away from this course. Booked for $29 on Golfnow and it said that it included a bucket of balls. This is completely false. Their "bucket" of balls means that you hit into a net from a super old mat, and you have to shag your own balls. The practice greens aren't bad, since they provide a ton of balls and they have a bunker area too. The course itself needs a ton of attention. The tee boxes are mostly uneven and thick, the fairways are dried up and half of them are dirt, and the greens are made up of about 90 different types of grass. Also, the fairways are close enough together that we had people teeing off on our left and they would end up on the right side of our fairway. Constantly had people crossing our fairway to get to their balls, and then they'd hit right at us without even thinking that they might hit us. No golf etiquette at all. I think the worst point was when we almost got hit by someone teeing off. Part of the green we were on was basically right in front of the next tee box. 4 golf balls flew within 15 feet of our green. Pretty unnerving when you're trying to putt. horrible course planning. Definitely not playing here again, even if it was a $10 green fee. Just horrible.
Dont waste your time
haven't played this course in a while and was surprised about the reviews lately. for $35 I decided to go back and check the course conditions. the reviews are true. this course is in bad shape. the 3rd hole short par 4 is literally all dirt. since the hotel and golf course changed owners, this place has really gone down. pace of play is always an issue here...played 3 holes in just a little over an hour. had to walk off the course. at least I was refunded. there are way too many nice courses in SD, don't waste your time here.
Minor dry spots in fairways, NOT a big deal
I actually didn't check the comments until like 1min after booking the tee time and was a little nervous about the course conditions. But when I showed up and played, it really wasn't a big deal. Sure, it's not Augusta in April, but it's really not the big deal all the negative reviewers made it out to be. There is no need for "lift, clean and place" or any other nonsense. If you are used to paying big bucks to play world class courses, why would you come here anyway? But if you are like me and came because I got a $20 tee time that included a bucket of balls and a cart, you more than get what you pay for. Verdict: Go play and have fun!
Tough driving course
I had not been on this course for 30 plus years, so I didn't remember the course that well, but it was challenging, greens were in good shape, and it was tough on the tee shot with precise driving a must.
Beyond disappointed
This place is a disgrace to San Diego golf. We made the unfortunate mistake of playing this course yesterday and Yikes is all I can say!
The tee boxes are confusing as heckand not well maintained. The fairways are beyond disgraceful. Lets even go as far as to say the sand traps are like clay.
The greens where also a disgrace which the attendant at the end of the course boasted about how nice they were, what a joke!!!
If you are thinking of playing here think again, definitely not worth
The going rate!!
I love this course, but...
I love this course, I know it well, but the course is in bad condition, dirt spots in the fairways and chunked up rough. The bunkers are awful.
The greens are in VERY good shape. I would recommend this course for the layout and as long as you play "lift clean and place" and that goes for the bunkers. (yes, its that bad.)
If the owners group would put some money into it I believe more people would play it. At one time this was a great course.
(its not the staff's fault)
The greens are on the slow side but healthy.
Overall it seems like they are trying to improve the course. Fairways, rough, and tees need serious attention. Played for less than $20 so I really can't complain too much.
Decent greens save the course...
Played yesterday, course was a few bucks cheaper than Carmel Mountain Ranch and since I hand't played it yet I gave it a shot. First and foremost, overall conditions of the course are not very good - tee boxes were not level, thick and hairy. The fairways looked barely watered and burned out in many places.
However, the greens are pretty good. Slow, but smooth and seemed like people take care of them. As far as the course goes, I played from Blue tees and although there are some long holes, there are some REALLY short ones - very easy one. Made for a fun day going -1 on the back nine :)
Staff was great all around. Overall, I would say the value at Carmel Mountain Ranch is much better and I would play there 9 of 10 times vs. this course.
Course needs turf overhaul. Must be five different grasses throughout the fairways. Horrible.

Couldn't beat the price for a weekend round.
Pace of play was really bad, but for 36 bucks and a cart, can't turn it down. Fairways were in horrible condition, no sand in bunkers, greens rolled true and were in good condition. Gotta know what you're getting if you are going to play this course
You get what you pay for
Greens are not true, advertise that they clean your clubs and never happened. Worst "driving range" I've ever seen...much better courses out there.
Good pace
This course has improved greatly in the timing of the groups. There was virtually no waiting on any hole which was not the case in the past. Good job!
Solid course, good price
For 30 bucks it comes with practice balls, BREAKFAST and a cart for 18 holes. I have yet to see a better deal in the San Diego. Plus at the end of the round they clean every club in your bag. Not exactly in pristine condition, but great value for the money.
Good for the money
Nice wide open course. My only complaint is that it is not well managed. I played yesterday afternoon and the two groups in front of us were both singles. How does this happen? So there was a fursome, a single, a single and we had a threesome. Thats rediculous.
Terrible condition
Of the 100+ courses I've played in my life and for the number of courses you can play in San Diego for the same price this is one of the worst. The fairways are thin and the sprinklers just made it muddy. Do not waste your money on this course.
