Course plays well with LOTS of slopes
You MUST position your ball as it rolls freely toward the freeway. Local knowledge helped as I was instructed on where to position my shots "Thanks Joe". For the price it wasn't a bad deal. Greens are definitely different from the east coast as they were spongy and slower than I am use to.
Great deal for weekday twilight.
Not the longest course nor the nicest fairways but a decent course for $20 bucks weekday twilight. I'd play it again.
Carmel Highland Resort and Spa
The guys in the Pro Shop need some customer service training but the rest of the staff seem great. The course is good if your paying less than $30.
tough course
rolling hills, sloping fairways, balls rolling toward the freeway....tough course. Nice views and location, fun to play, but definitely tough as the ball has to be hit a certain way or it rolls down toward the freeway. It was in good condition, and the pace of play was good despite being fairly crowded.
Playable yet still challenging.
Playable yet challenging par 4s. Traps were hard and shallow. Pace of play was excellent, especially for a resort course. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bar was over priced. $36 for four drinks.
Good challenging course and a nice getaway
This course is quite challenging with many hills and variety of holes to play. Greens are very firm and difficult for golf ball to stick. And the crab grass in the rough is very annoying, so I suggest that you stay in the fairway.
Gotta love fast putting greens!
The golf course was in excellent condition and the greens were fast. I love fast greens and watching the golf ball roll purely on line when I putt. There were mainly Par 4's, a handful of Par 5's, and a few Par 3's. I had a great time playing this course! Btw, the driving range is atypical because all they have are nets.
Great value for $24 in the week
Greens were in good shape. Played same course 1 1/2 months ago and the fairways were pretty bad but this time they are filling in nice and should be really good for late spring.
Older distinctive feel to the course
Nice club house with bar and restaurant, people were friendly.
i would play there again.
Love to play it
Challenges different shot making abilities, makes you work for your score when you don't hit the fairways, and overall it's what you expect when looking for a game of golf.
Good time as any to play Carmel Highland
Carmel Highland has never been one of my favorite courses in the area but it's close to home and GN offers some nice hot deals. I booked as a single and was told by the pro shop that I had to wait until my scheduled tee time. Most courses let me go off early as a single but they're dealing the cards...I'm just sitting at the table. The course was in pretty good shape. The fairways were decent and greens were very good and not too brutally fast. Staying below the hole on the hillside greens is a must ! Had to start on #10 for no explained reason but got off to a good start so no complaints here. Today was as good as it gets at the Highland!
Good bang for the buck
Decent rate for the value.
Fun course to get some practice on.
Good course for the price, very outdated and basic but affordable.
The course is close to my house and is great for a quick evening 9. It is usually pretty empty and in decent shape, so the twighlight price is great. The carts are old and they provide no yardage information via score cards or cart GPS. They advertise an app that you can download but it's pretty useless. Overall, an ok course.
Great buffet, practice facility and value.
Very friendly, country club like. Great buffet, practice facility and value.
Course is a great value.
Fairways are rough in many spots, however the greens were in good shape. The course is a great value and a lot of fun for your money.
You get a bit more than what you pay for.
Paid $26 for 18 holes with cart, so you can't expect too much. Resort & course is in need of some TLC, but still playable. Lots of fairways have quite a severe side slope which makes them a bit tricky.
Carmel Highlands Doubletree
Everything was as promised. Some challenging pin placements added extra bite to the course.
Lightening Fast Greens Protect Par on this course
I have played this course many times over the years, as far back as when it was Rancho Penaquitos Municipal. Not particularly long, this course demands driving accuracy off the tee to get in position to attack pins. One word of advice, stay below the hole and putt defensively until you are comfortable with the speed of the greens! The course is built on the side of a hill, so putts will run out towards the freeway. They have spent a lot of time and money over the years, but it always looks like a municipal, with multiple strains of grass in the fairways and ground squirrel holes everywhere. But overlooking the condition, it plays fast, the fun factor is there with a mix of easy and challenging holes, and it is priced correctly for the value.
the course has many trees.
I have played here a few times and they do not over book so you are done in 4 hours. The greens are pretty fast and everything rolls to freeway. Had a good day.
NEEDS WORK
WHILE THE PRO SHOP, LOUNGE AND RESTAURANT ARE NICE FACILITIES, AND THE GREENS ARE GOOD, THE TEE BOXES & FAIRWAYS ARE NOT WELL MAINTAINED...GIVES THE COURSE AN OUT OF PLACE FEEL IN THIS SOMEWHAT UPSCALE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE NOISE FROM THE ADJACENT FREEWAY TRAFFIC DOES NOT HELP ALSO.
