Westridge Golf Club is a challenging layout designed by Robert Muir Graves, a familiar name in California golf. Graves has designed many of the state's most popular courses including Boundary Oak in Walnut Creek and Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel. At just under 6,600 yards, Westridge G.C. is seemingly short but what it lacks in length it makes up for with more than 60 sand bunkers strategically placed alongside the narrow fairways and sloping greens. There are also some holes that offer interesting risk-reward opportunities for adventurous big hitters. The elevation changes throughout provide difficult uphill and downhill shots that will depend almost entirely on proper club selection. Water hazards also come into play on four holes. The golf course finishes with a dramatic par 5 that plays downhill against the winds to a rolling fairway and then into a fiercely protected green.

Security

Three of four of us got cash stolen while we were playing the total amount of $2,100 from our golf bags. It must be the inside job. It was “cart pass only”. so we had to leave away from our carts a lot. Someone stole our cash only and left wallets and money clips behind.

Decent Course

I'm an 18 HC, so I thought the course was fine. Staff was pretty friendly. Great snackbar/bar to grab drinks and supplies before the round--there was no Cart Girl on the Sunday I played. Hilly course. It's been raining a lot, so I'd call the day of and check on their conditions. It was cart path only, which made everything super slow (I'm not one to talk as I sprayed it all over the course) but we finished at 6 hours on the dot. They had Marshall's out and were checking on everyone regularly so it really was the cart path only slowing it down. Not sure I'd pay $75 again, but what are you going to do in SoCal...

Fun time in the rain

Played Friday 3/10 - the first wave of the latest atmospheric river. Called the course early and they said they were indeed letting people out and the rain was more of a fine mist at the time. Some bunkers had noticeable erosion or mud bogs at the bottom. Given the weather, we played preferred lies everywhere including in the hazards if necessary since we were not posting scores. The conditions were surprisingly quite good although some recent growth of clover has created some thick spots where balls can vanish in the rough. I fixed an awful lot of ball marks on the greens - and even a few of my own. Not fixing pitch marks and unraked bunkers seem to be the post-covid norm for golf. I can't blame the course for this. HEY YOU, NEW GOLFER - RAKE THE BUNKERS AND FIX YOUR PITCH MARKS!!!! This course is deceptive. The terraced fairways are narrow in places and make it play longer than it is. Wet conditions added to this, so we played the white tees and had an absolutely wonderful time finishing in just over 3 1/2 hrs.

Worst experience

Had a tee time at 2:36. Didn’t tee off until 2:50. There was a group ahead of mine waiting to tee off and they were waiting because there was 2 groups in the fairway ahead of them. It took 4 hours to complete 9 holes when i wanted to play 18. I saw the Marshall but he didn’t do anything to speed up the players ahead.

After the we were done with the 9th hole my group went into the bar to grab a drink and no one was there to wait on us. We waited another 10 mins before someone took our order. Bad service all around.

Avoid this course if you want to finish 18 holes under 5 hours

Again, we finished only 11 holes for a little over 3 hours. This is not acceptable for $55 green fee. They booked a group of 4somes for every 8 mins but if they know how the pacing has been, they should increase it to 10-12 mins between 4somes. The management is just greedy and does not care about customers' time. What in the world you want to finish 18 holes in 6 hours? I saw a group of 4some finishing their 18 hole rounds in little under 6 hours. Their tee off time was 8am. I am saying this again I played here muitple times in the past 3 months and the last 2 times were also horribly slow. It's not really about the players, it's how the 1st 4 holes were designed.
